Oasis Village = Not bad at all!
from SamsCalling
After reading some reviews on here, we were rather apprehensive to say the least about the Parque Mourabel! The Parque Mourabel/Oasis Village/Pe De Lago complex consists of the three different 'hotels'. There's a central reception, three pools, bar which serves light snacks & more 'substansial' menu - it's not a restaurant you'd eat at at night, but for a breakfast or bigger lunch than a sandwich it was good. We didn't eat there for a larger meal but the snacks were good & from what we could see, so were the meals. We mainly used the pool on the Parque Mourabel complex, which is by the bar/restaurant. It was nice - lots of greenery, can't say getting a sunbed was ever a problem (it was busy, but we always found one, during peak season in July/August!) - there was also a pool on the Oasis Village side...this was alot larger, but there hardly any spots where you're in the shade there. Overall the pool area at the Parque Mourabel was nice - I've seen much worse, the grassy areas made it quite appealing. We stayed on the Oasis Village side. It was literally a 1 minute walk across a quiet road to the reception/bar/pool. We'd booked a 2 bed apartment - what we got was HUGE! We had an upstairs which masses of space, a large living/dining area - it could have done with some updating...but it wasn't something that affected your stay unless you let it. For what we paid, we couldn't complain. Whether the other 2 complex's are different, I don't know, but I would definitely go back if I could be guarenteed to stay on the Oasis Village side. We did have trouble checking in - we waited about an hour & a half after they said our room would be ready...but...the room we got definitely made up for this. Whether there was a 'mistake' in giving us such a large apartment..I'm not sure - but the staff were always very friendly & helpful. Overall, if you want a relatively cheap hotel (by Vilamoura standards!) - & don't go expecting 1st class luxury, from what we experienced, this hotel was fine. You're about a 1/2 hr walk from the main Marina, or you can get a taxi which is about 5 - 6 Euros. Alot of restaurants are quite pricey in the main Marina - but have a look around & find the 'old' Vilamoura....it's located towards the back of 'Figo Bar' which you can't miss, it's in the main Marina - & there's lots of lovely restaurants there. We ate there everynight...the food & service was excellent!!
Basic apartments, a long walk to the marina, but good food.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Parque Mourabel on a half board basis, with our 1 year old daughter. Her 2 sets of grandparents also stayed for a week each. We had a large top floor apartment with a huge roof terrace - as others have posted, these are the best rooms to get for space and views but seem to be allocated to those on longer stays like us. The apartment was reasonably decorated with new bathroom and modern kitchen, and a new boiler, but some of the furnishings were a bit outdated. Our apartment only slept 2 (plus cot) which meant we got proper sofas/chairs - our relatives fared worse with very uncomfortable sofabeds in their lounges on the lower floors of the hotel. The rooms were kept reasonably clean with regular towel changes - not the best floor cleaning though (a pain when your daughter is crawling all over the place). That said, the roof terrace was very baby-safe - not something you can say about all holiday hotels' balconies. We found the restaurant fine - 3 choices of starter, 3 choices of main course, hardly any choice of pudding for those on half board - and the staff great. We skipped the dubious entertainment in the bar - but at least there was something on if you couldn't be bothered to go out for the evening. It's a long walk to the beach or the marina - 20 mins at least, each - and well worth using the hotel's courtesy minibus or hiring a car to explore the rest of the Algarve, as we did. All in all, the Parque Mourabel is an old (probably 1970s) apartment complex which has been only partially updated - there's certainly more work to do. But the staff make an effort and the restaurant food is good. I don't think you can beat it on price, but it's up to you whether that represents value for money or not.
Don't stay here

We booked this inexpensive break not expecting too much and we were certainly right. The apartments are reasonably clean and well equipped but in no way can they be described as comfortable. The beds and sofas were the most incomfortable we have ever experienced and the bedroom can only be described as resembling a prison cell. On the last night of our holiday the apartment was burgled and all of our electronic equipment, including IPods, DVD player and digital camera, was stolen. There was no sign of a forced entry and as only ourselves and the cleaners knew what was in the room or had access to the room, I will leave you to draw your own conclusions. The hotel was not particularly interested when we reported the theft and apart from calling the local police, left us to sort it out for ourselves. We would never stay at the Parque Mourabel or either of their subsidary sites ever again.
good value but showing signs of end of season

we stayed in a top floor one bedroom apartment the large balcony overlooking the pool . the pool area and garden was well maintained., the apartment was clean but very basic, the kitchen area and bathroom had been recently refurbished, but the outside decor was in need of a coat of paint, the small bar was not very inviting, torn and dirty upholstery, the small restaurant [which we did not use] looked very dark and dismal. a good supermaket was on site, and a 5 minute walk for a good restaurant the chez carlos. the daily bus into the marina was useful, the first 2 weeks were blissfully quiet, but our third week was school half term, ouch!!!! we have visited villamoura a few times spanning 30 years, and still find the area pleasing. the weather was good, and we enjoyed our stay, and consider the holiday was good value for money.
Awful place, avoid like the plague..

Having read review on this site a few months prior to booking, I was expecting basic acommodation on a par with the (relatively) cheap price. Should have known better! It was appalling - the bathroom was disgusting - the shower un-usable as it wouldn't face into the bath, just spun round to pour water all over the floor. The bath was cracked and chipped, the taps fell off whenever you touched them. The ancient water heater looked ready to collapse and there wasn't even a lock on the door. Furnishings are stark in the bedroom, beds are tiny, and as I was there with my teenage son I slept on the sofa which stank of unmentionable things. We had to ask three times for the oven to be fixed as the hotplates refused to heat up - it took 3 hours for the kettle to get lukewarm meaning cooking was impossible for the first two days. There were bugs of various sizes everywhere, silver fish and what could possibly be cockroaches but I can't say for sure. The doors rattled, the traffic is LOUD and you could hear the people next door pull their curtains. Don't be fooled by the '3 pools' or indeed the photos of them - they are pictures of the residential complex over the way, you had to ring a bell to get some one to come and let you in to the pool area, unless you ate at their restaraunt. One pool was closed off permanently for 'repair' so everyone attempted to use one pool, given that there were about 4 blocks featuring at least 18 appartments each, that's a fair few people. Plus the flies and dead frogs that were already in there. The main reception and bar were ok, but the one serving the Pe Do Lago block was awful, dirty and full of the manager's kid's toys and mess all the time. Unfortunately for everyone in Portugal during half term, the weather was appalling and we managed to get approx. 10 hours of sunshine in the week we went - the rest of the time was either thick low cloud or heavy rain. Which made the hotel even worse as we couldn't escape from it (don't be fooled by the promise of satellite tv either, 5 stations of Portuguese chat shows, soaps and cartoons plus BBC world service) Vilamoura marina itself is great, lively and full of bars and shops, but I would reccommend a car to go to other places especially if you have children. Zoomarine is the best attraction, but it is very small so if you are on an organised trip via your hotel etc. you may find yourself there for several hours - take advantage of the pools and take swimming gear and towels. All in all, Viamoura great especially for groups of adults, but the Parque Mourabel Oasis? Don't go there!
hideous place to stay.

These apartment are a danger to everyone who stays there. My family and I were horrified at the poor standard of all the ementities at this resort. There was nothing to do, so you had to go into Vilamoura itself (which is lovely). The pool turned my daughters beautiful blonde hair green! The apartment we had was something out of the 70's, which we could have lived with, if it had been clean and safe. Every room had a plug socket hanging from the wall. The bathroom light gave my son a small electric shock as he turned it on. The beds were very small and 2 out of the 5 were broken. We tried to move but had to join a queue of other unhappy holiday makers trying to move the same as us.....DON'T GO THERE EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS CHEAP.
Definitely lowest standard hotel have ever stayed in

We have just come back from this hotel and maybe I am not being fair but it really was a run down ghost town , god why did I even book it hotel!! I rang the hotel direct before leaving to check we could have a travel cot for our baby and 3 phone calls later they finally relented and let us have one. When we got there it was covered in what I can assume were blood stains and was falling apart. My more comedy moment came when I realised our apartment was in a complex which seemed residential as opposed to holiday home, and as I looked over the neighbouring balcony I espied two yappy barking shitsus who had crapped everywhere wafting the smell over to us!! Basically apartment was really old , beds were two small , my feet dangled off the end and I am only 5" 6, and the pools were awful. One pool was cordoned off as if someone had been murdered in it and was green and lagoon like with sludge floating on top. There was a rowdy restaurant bar, which we made sure we never ate in as the menu was very british, mind you there was an excellent brazillian restaurant across the road which we highly recommend. All in all I would say you get what you pay for except our holiday wasnt that cheap, if you use your initiative and use this as a base and go out every day is a very enjoyable holiday. Bless the staff they were really nice and I felt they must have been quite embarassed having to represent such a shanty town of a hotel. Depending on what your standards are make what you will of this hotel, we still had a great holiday and baby didnt care where we were!!
Thoroughly enjoyed stay at Parque Mourabel

Would go back to these apartments. Travelled as a family two adults two children 14 and 10. Booked one bed room apartment and this was spacious had recently had new kitchen and bathroom, furnishings were also new. Cleaned every day with fresh towels. Fans provided along with toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board and hairdryer. Large balcony with table and chairs. Dissaponted that we could not take inflatables into Parque Mourabel pool as not much more to entertain kids, but could at the Oasis pool over the road which solved this. The marina and the beach were about 20 mins walk away or 4-5 Euros in a cab, hotel offered free bus. Although marina very nice we were glad that we were staying outside this area as we could eat for half the price of meals at the marina in El Carpo restaurant just a short walk from apartments, which served good food and was very friendly. Had an excellent 10 day holiday.
Worth the low price, but could benefit from improvements.

We arrived at the Mourabel apartments at approx 5 pm to be told our apartments were not ready, but they could upgrade us to a better room if we gave them 10 mins. An hour later we were packed into a minibus and ferried out of Vilamoura into Quateria and shown an (admittedly beautiful) apartment in the middle of a residential block facing building works! We politely declined and were then given apartments in Pe Do Lago. The room was large, but in need of updating- the brown tiles in the bathroom were circa 1970, and they were very keen on wood- so the bedroom was VERY dark! Fans were supplied on request, and on the whole the apartment itself was satisfactory. We found the cleaning services to be below average standard, and maids would more than often turn up at 5 or 6 pm, just as we were in the shower! No problems with creepy crawlies, but area around the bin in the room was filthy from other residents, and the toilet smelt of urine. Breakfast in the reception was ok, on offer every day was bacon, scrambled egg and baked bean, also rolls, cheese, ham and a couple of different cereals. Charmers bar and restaurant, on the left after oasis apartments did a good breakfast, although was in desperate need of some english speaking staff in the mornings. Highly recommend charmers for an evening meal, lovely indian food, and they have good karaoke evenings! The entertainment at the mourabel was poor, with the highlight being "eskimo al's karaoke" two times a week, other evenings it was just really poor singers, who drove everyone away. Sadly very little to keep children busy at night. The marina is beautiful, but gets very busy in the evenings and it is common after 8pm for there to be long queues at most of the restaurants. Costs only 4 euros in a taxi to get to the marina from hotel. Pool at Pe Do Lago is lovely and kids pool is great. Very clean. On the whole we really enjoyed this holiday, but if the cleanliness in the rooms was better, and evening entertainment improved, it would have been even better!
peaceful and nothing in area for kids
from juhu94
Had an hour or so on arrival to wait for our room. We booked a studio and it was very roomy with good facilities as advised, kettle, iron, toaster, fan, pots and pans galore. The room was bit old fashioned but very clean and spacious. The only channel on the TV that was in English was Sky News or Eurosport - but the picture was terrible. The oasis appartments have a large garden area with a big BBQ that you can use whenever you want. The oasis pool was at the side of the brazilian restaurant, next door. This was a huge pool and usualy very quiet as not many people find it. The Mourabel pool was always very busy and very small, so we stayed most of the time at the oasis pool. We never got to see the Pe de Lago pool as we didn't have a security tag to get in there. There area is very quiet with nothing for kids to do. The hotel do not cater for kids at all, there isn't even a pool table for them. The pool is great durng the day for them, but at night you have to go to the Marina and there is very little for kids there. We spent most of our time at Figo's bar as this has sports tv, football, cricket, wrestling, pool tables and an internet cafe. We stayed half board at the mourabel, breakfast was the same every day - bacon ( english style), scrambled eggs and beans, coco pops or cheese and ham. The evening meals were not buffet style as we have always had before but a la carte style. This was on a 7 day cycle, so we played guess what's for tea on the second week. Starters were always soup, salad or orange juice, main meal was a choice of three and a dessert of the day, fruit or ice cream. The meals were nice, nothing wonderful. We had a couple of meals out at the Marina, but were dissapointed with the food there. The choice was rather limited, most meals were steak and chips, chicken and chips, or fish and chips. For two adults and one child it was costing about €75 and the food wasn't wonderful. We had a great day out at Zoomarine, which is a full day with a great dolphin show, sealion show and bird of prey show. We also went to aqualand which was well worth the money. From the hotel you can book the water parks and zoo marine along with the transport to get there. This worked ut a lot cheaper and easier than hiring a car for the day. The only problem was that the bus back from zoomarine was at 4, but the park stays open until 7.30. We will not be going back, but did enjoy a quiet peaceful holiday there.
We booked this deal just 2 weeks prior to departure as there was very limited choices available and places were selling fast. It was reasonable price at £2350 for 12 nights inc. flights at good times. This is our 3rd trip to Vilamours in 4 years so we are familiar with the... more
