Enjoyable Stay at the Hotel Olympus
from WelshTraveller10
We just returned from a 3 night golfing break in Vilamoura and stayed at the Olympus Hotel. The Hotel itself is very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. The decor is old and tired as nothing has been renewed or replaced since the place was built in the 1960s/70s. The Hotel certainly doesnt' deserve the 4 star rating (more like a 3 star) However, the rooms are very clean and fully equipped. Others have commented on the vast size of the rooms. We stayed on the 3rd floor and had a corner room which was huge with a balcony that turned the corner of the building. You need to stay on the 5th floor and above to get a view of the marina. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is ideally situated just a few steps away from the marina with all the shops and restaurants. The breakfast was self service with a good choice of hot and cold food. Overall, I would say that the Hotel is ideal if you are only staying a few nights and want to stay close to the Marina. Great for golfing breaks, but not necessarily the place for a long family holiday due to the drab and dated decor. Would recommend the Hotel to those travelling on a tight budget - don't expect any luxury here. Would return in the future.
Excellent value for money

Was a bit worried about staying here as i hadnt really read any good reviews of the place so i was pleasantly surprised. We had a 2 bed apart on 1st floor, room 120, it was huge, there are 5 in our family we could have fitted another 5 in easily!!!! Very clean & friendly staff. Excellent location as you are right on the marina, even though were were on the road we heard no noise which was surprising. The childrens pool was brilliant, not very deep and i felt my 2 small boys were very safe in there as it was totally away from the main pool, and as it was only a small area there was only room for a few sunbeds and they were taken by the people with small children. Would recommend this hotel, only thing i was disappointed with was that the bathroom needed updating very quickly!! But we didnt go to spend our holiday in the bathroom so didnt let it worry us.
Fantastic Apts/ Exc Value for money

We stayed in the Olympus June 20 – 27 on the first floor Room 106 Before we arrived, we were a little apprehensive as we had read the comments on Trip Advisor (all valid) When we did arrive, we were very pleasantly surprised. The apt was MASSIVE. 2 spacious bedrooms, huge sitting room/kitchen, average size bathroom, The Balcony ran right around both bedrooms, sitting room 7 kitchen. Granted we were on a corner apartment. Air Conditioning which worked 100%. Apts cleaned daily, towels changed daily except on the Sunday we were there. Staff on the whole were very helpful & friendly especially “Pedro” at the Reception. He was so nice & helpful, full of life & eager to help. He is a very special employee. Although there were no vacancies, the place never appeared crowded. The pool area was fab. The pool was big and there were always beds available. Cushions couls be bought at Reception for €1.50 each, however if you had your lunch at the snack bar which was always very tasty, you can get a refund of your cushion spend. The Olympus is only a few mins from the Marina & the vast choice of Bars & Restaurants…And what a choice. Fantastic choice of Top Quality foods. We especially enjoyed an Italian- IL Lampara and a Swedish one called- Went to a show at the Casino which was very enjoyable but took good advice & didn’t have the meal We slept well and had no issue with noise or Refuse Collection. I AM A VERY LIGHT SLEEPER NORMALLY On the whole we had a wonderful time at the Olympus, outstanding value for money & I would have no hesitation in recommending this Apartment
Vilamoura a compact, friendly resort
from Fussyboots
An excellent location, close to the Marina, cafes and resturants. The accommodation was very dated and is in need of an update throughout. The apartment was spacious and clean, housekeeping being carried out each day.The reception area is not particularly welcoming but the staff are polite and helpful. The lifts in the building did not inspire confidence, they were very slow and noisy. I don't believe the accommodation is suitable for young families or elderly visitors. A good choice for those on a budget or on a short stay. My accommodation was on the 6th floor overlooking the swimming pool.

In January 2006 we spent three weeks at the Olympus Aparthotel: we were on an upper floor facing the marina. The location was superb with easy access to the marina complex and its restaurants and shops. However, the apartments, although spacious, are very badly dated and requires major refurbishment. The kitchen was well equipped but a total absence of microwave and oven cooking utensils meant that they could only be used for reheating dishes. The cafeteria is very basic. Breakfast was adequate but the evening meals were very disappointing - ok if you like hamburgers, fish fingers or chicken nuggets, although, if steak was the dish of the day they were known to run out of food. There was never a choice of menu! The reception staff were bilingual and always most helpful. Although our apartment had a beautiful marina and sea view we didn't see any sun on our balcony till after 4pm and hence, not warm enough to sit out for meals or drinks, whereas the south facing accommodation had sun from mid morning till late afternoon with a not unpleasant view over the garden and swimming pool. There's no way this hotel justifies a 4 star rating.
Noise, noise noise
from rob6575
Rooms are large, clean & comfortable. Maid service daily. Hotel situated on main one way system with traffic noise being 24/7 - including refuge collection @ circa 4am. Hotel situated over a shopping complex which includes restaurants & a busy - 'gentlemens bar' with music & a lively & regular stream of visitors. Avoid road side rooms & floors 1-4 if you want to limit the noise. Pool area average. Staff efficient but not particulary friendly. Location superb for access to Vilamoura Marina & beaches. 3* is a better description of this hotels & amenities. No plans to return!
loved vilamoura

stayed at the olympus in april of this year, not the greatest hotel in the world but clean and pleasant with large apartments with plenty of room space. ideally situated near the marina (very short walk) this hotel is nice and i would stay there again if the opportunity arises, having said that the rooms are a bit old as some people say but i only use it to sleep as do most people on holiday. small pool and breakfast area with a tiny bar area, but with all the other bars/restaurants around who needs a hotel bar. staff were very friendly and welcoming and the cleaners were always working.
4 Stars, I dont know about that!

This is our 2nd visit to Vilamoura, but this was our 1st stay at the Olympus. When I walked through the door to our room, I must say, I was at a loss for words for a minute. I was unsure if I liked it or didnt like it. The apartment style hotel is very OLD. The furniture needs replaced. The television is old and does not have a remote. Everything is very simple and cheap. This hotel is ideal if you want a room to party in w/several friends (it is very spacious) or if you want to cook while on vacation...it has a small kitchen w/stove, pots, pans, and utensils. I must say, I dont know who rates these hotels in Vilamoura b/c realistically if its a 4 star hotel, take 2 stars off of the rating and thats the TRUE rating of these hotels. I give the Olympus 2 stars...staff is nice, but rooms are lacking...they are old and simple...the shower needs replacing, towels are old, and we even had holes in our blankets.
Excellent Location

Just returned from 4 weeks at the Olympus Aparthotel (Feb.2005) Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday but apartment was disappointing. Although clean and spacious the apartment was badly in need of refurbishment, lounge furniture very uncomfortable, everything in70's style (black and tubular). A distinct shortage of cooking pots and dishes. All the staff are extremely friendly, especially Reception who do their utmost to help. If you like peace and quiet request a room at the back (middle section) as you will be awakened each morning at about 4.30 by the noise of the waste bins being emptied. There is also a certain amount of traffic noise on the marina view apartments.
Good location

We stayed in the olympus aparthotel in October, what a wonderfull location, just cross a road and there you are in the marina. Lots of wonderful resturants, clubs, bars to suit all tastes and pockets. The apartments themselves are addiquate, they are in need of refurbishment, but there is plenty of equipment in them if you want to eat in. There is maid service every day, and for about 5 euros a nice breakfast is served in a little cafe. If like me you like things quiet at night then ask for an apartment facing the pool, as the ones facing the marina (which has stunning views on the higher floors) are right over a main road. I would not recommend this hotel for familys, as there is nothing laid on for children. We enjoyed it so much we have all ready booked to return next October.
Very basic and tired, really needs updating to a equal the 4 stars it advertises, we would give it a 2+ star. Breakfast is ropey but edible, staff and cleaners are courteous and the grounds are well kept. This is a no frills apartment hotel, so if you want to cook there... more
