This was the first time me and my boyfriend stayed at the Dom Pedro Marina. When we arrived we immediately upgraded to the presidential suite on the top floor as we knew that having a jacuzzi would make our holiday so much more fun. We were definitely right to upgrade as... more

We have visited this hotel for the past 6 years (and stayed at the Dom Pedro Golf for 3 years prior to that). Have always had an excellent holiday, good accommodation, good breakfast, and good a la carte evening meals. Service by all the staff has been excellent, friendly... more

A lad’s long weekend. Perfect for golf, fitting in 3 games in 4 days. Rooms spacious and clean and had all we needed. Continental breakfast, just the job before a round of golf. Lots of bars nearby and great restaurants. Plenty of places to choose to eat and very... more

Having just spent 7 nights at the Dom Pedro Marina hotel I wanted to put my review on this website to say what a lovely week it has been. The location of this hotel is fantastic and it is well worth paying the extra for a sea view, our room overlooked both the sea and the... more

Lovely hotel, Cleaners in every day and if you put 'Do not disturb' on the door, they come back when you are out and clean the room. Breakfasts nice, loads to choose from, could have a different type of breakfast every morning. Ideal location so close to every thing. Very... more

Far from impressed
The Dom Pedro Marina is at best satisfactory . From the start the reception is pretty dark and uninspiring and staffed by on the whole pleasant people, however there are one or two who do nothing for the group of hotels to which this one belongs. The bar area isn’t to bad, they have just decreased the price of drinks to get more people in. The week we stayed there August 2006 the height of season there were no more than a dozen people in there when we looked in. An organist does his best to provide some sort of entertainment but fell short after a few days owing to a repetitive song list. The pool is tiny and is surrounded by beds I think someone from on high has read previous reviews and got some more in. There were always beds available regardless of the time of day. The rest of the area was grass which thankfully was shaded by palm trees which was a godsend when it got too hot. The rooms were not up to much small, tiled floor and sparsely furnished. The balcony was tiny and barely had enough room for two people. Try and get a room on at least the third floor any lower and there is no view. The breakfast was good; again someone had been reading previous reviews and had decided to lay on a decent ever changing menu. If I had children I would not go there, it’s just that there is nothing for them to do or space to run around. There is a hotel opposite called the Ampalius which seemed far better in fact I wished I had stayed there. If you have a late flight and want to keep the room for a few hours more then be prepared to stump up 77 Euros. What a take on the most I have ever paid is 25 Euros and in better hotels. The hotel is ideally placed for the beach 300 yards away and the marina across the road. There is also a bus stop directly outside the hotel. We got buses to Albufria and to Faro all for a few Euros. The buses are clean air conditioned and much cheaper than taxis. The buses run two time tables they both go too the same place but one is local that is slow and the other is Direct which gets you there in no time. Look for the sign on the front of the bus. The market in Quiteria is also accessible by bus however for a change walk along the beach on the way back it only takes about twenty minutes and is a nice walk. The other problem is time share touts who for some reason hang around outside the hotel I didn’t see them any where else and they were a pain. I think it was because a few times I saw time share salesmen in the bar giving out the patter to couples who had taken the bait outside. When I am sitting down drinking coffee and reading the paper in the morning the last thing I want to hear is some greasy salesman extolling the virtues of time share. If you can’t afford the extra for the room when you have a late flight home and have to use the hotel facilities don’t expect privacy the shower is in the toilets and doesn’t have a door. The bottom line is would I go there again………I’m afraid not there are better hotels with much better rooms
Fabulous
I'm so glad I didn't read some of these reviews before we went! This hotel and resort were recommended by our super local independent travel agent. Only 20 minutes by taxi from Faro airport to the hotel. The staff were very friendly, the room (on the first floor) exceptionally clean and well serviced, excellent and varied selection of hot and cold items on the breakfast buffet. No problem getting a sunbed any day we were there, nice mix of guests (some individuals, some families some couples of varying ages) and there was something for everyone, either on site or within a short walk. Loads to see, masses of good restuarants. Poolside bar very good value, great quality, good choice for a lunchtime snack and again, superb service from the staff. We had a brilliant time and would have no hesitation is recommending this lovely hotel to anyone.
Friendly Staff, Great Location
Stayed here for 2 weeks at the begining of July. Room was a good size and the sea view didn't dissapoint. the room was spotless when we arrived and was kept clean throughout. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Not only do they speak excellent English but they are friendly, happy to chat and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The worst thing is the breakfast. It's not awful, and there is a decent selection but it's the same every day and it's fairly bland. Location is fantastic. The beach and marina are within a minute or two walk and there are plenty of excellent restaurants close by. I'd recommend going to the one's just behind the marina as the 2 meals we had on the marina itself were a bit overpriced and not nearly as good. The Dom Miguel, Don Alfonso and the Thai are all fantastic restaurants.
Good Location, Average Hotel
This is the first time we have stayed at this hotel, having been to Vilamoura 4 out of the previous 5 years. (Previously we stayed at the Marinotel twice - excellent, the Ampalius (OK) and the Atlantis (Good)) Knowing the location to be excellent for the marina and beach, we decided to choose this hotel over the others as it offered us a family suite for less than many of the other hotels were charging for a single! Overall the hotel service cannot be faulted: Breakfast was not hectic and had a reasonable selection of items. The maid service was daily and the linen and beds and towels replaced each day. The bar area was fine, with plenty of seating and sofas etc, and a musician played each night and/or sang to keep the oldies happy. We did seem to be in the age minority when we were there - it felt more like a Saga hotel than a family hotel, but that may have had more to do with the time of year than anything else. The hotel staff were friendly, and quite accommodating of our request for a late check out (for free!) on the last day to make the most of our time in Vilamoura. Now onto the negatives: The pool was too small for the size of hotel, and was freezing cold and dirty on closer inspection (leaves, bugs, etc floating in the water), there were quite clearly not enough sun beds for all the guests so you had to get out early if you planned a day around the pool. There is also no playground or facilities of any sort for children. Having said all of that - you can use the facilities at the nearby Dom Pedro Golf for free - and their pool area and facilities are excellent. Our family room, on the second floor, had no balconies - a nightmare if you are trying to get wet swimwear and towels dry! The room itself, split into two distinct sleeping areas, was large enough and there were 4 single beds in the room (pushed together in pairs). Our particular room had a nasty "cabbage" smell which we couldn’t trace that appeared mid-week, but opening of windows cleared it for a while - you just had to hold your breath for the first few minutes after having been out on return to the room! That said, I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Vilamoura on a budget, but we won't be choosing this hotel in the future. Its well worth a 2 minute further walk to stay at the sister hotel, the Dom Pedro Golf.
A lovely hotel for a relaxing break.
We have just returned from a week long break at the Dom Pedro Marina. The family suite was fine for our family of 4. The hotel was spotlessly clean. We were given clean towels each day,and the bedding was changed twice during our stay. The breakfasts were good if a little repetative. The swimming pool was great and the gardens well kept. Reception staff not overly friendly, but all other staff were lovely. A perfectly situated hotel for the marinas many bars and restaurants. We would definately return to this hotel.
Excellent Hotel
Found this an excellent 4 star hotel. It is well situated. Room was spotless and well appointed. Would recommend B&B rather than half board. There are plenty good restaurants within walking distance. We were there for the Golf World Cup and Hotel Reception was most helpful with information. Shop around the web sites for the best deal they differ a lot,I found mine on Easyjet hotel site.
Friendly Clean Hotel and Easy Access To All!!
My husband and I stayed at this hotel and as soon as we arrived, we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite for our entire stay and were able to have a late check out! The hotel is spotless, staff are very friendly and room service is quick and effecient. Buffet has a full variety of options whether it be fruit, continental or hot. Although the are not many facilities within the hotel such as entertainment, we certainly felt that this hotel was situated in perfect position i.e literally a minute walk to the the bus stop / taxi rank / tourist trains and a 5 minute walk to the Marina. We had no problems finding food both vegetarian and non vegetarian at the Marina. We recommend you to go to Thai Thai for Chinese for vegetarians and the Thai restuarant opposite the McDonalds. Also the Casino is a 5 min walk. All in all, we wouldnt have wanted to stay anywhere else. Just make sure that you try to get a room on the 6 or 5th floor to get a full view of what is around.
Loved it
My husband and I have just returned from a lovely holiday in Vilamoura. We spent 11 days at the excellent Dom Pedro Marina Hotel. We had a marina view room on the 6th floor, we requested a high floor for a better view, after reading other reviews on this hotel. The hotel is spotless, the staff were very helpful and the boats in the marina are to die for. There are lots of nice restaurants both around the marina and also just off the marina area. We would say this resort is more suited to couples both old and young and people with young families. We think it may be a little quiet for groups of girls/boys, as the nighlife is mainly based around the restaurants on the marina. In closing we would have no hesitation in recommending Vilamoura, or the hotel to anyone and we will certainly go back again.
Not our cup of tea
My Wife and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at this Hotel we went for a double celerbration our 35th Wedding Annivesary and my wifes birthday. The brochure rates this a 4star Hotel I would rate it at 3star at best we found it very dull and dingey all though i must say it was very clean. The rooms are quite spacious but bathroom very dark only small strip light in, the balcony was tiny with no lighting at all and the air con was noisy, I did request an upgrade with our tour rep as was advertised on the Hotel web site for anyone celerbrating wedding / anniversary i was told the hotel was fully booked and there were no suits available another couple we spoke to Mother and Daughter who arrived on the same flight as us from Newcastle were upgraded to a suit without even asking in view of our celerbrations i felt they did nothing to accomodate us Vilamoura itself and the Marina are very nice but very little in the way of entertainment but some very nice Restaurants. Don't think we would go back for 2 weeks.
Fabulous Hotel
Excellent location. Rooms very spacious. Staff helpful and friendly. Only a pianist in the evening, so a bit lacking in evening entertainment. Not enough sunbeds, however. I would recommend paying the extra for a view of the pool and request a room above the first floor for views of the sea. When we wre there, there were not enough people on half board and the evening meal was a la carte, but we had the option of having dinner at the Dom Pedro Golf with their buffet. The Golf has many more facilities, but the location is not as good as the Marina. No doubt in my mind the hotel warrants 4 stars. Only minus point (apart from the lack of sunbeds) is the number of golfers!
