Good basic hotel, walking distance of the beach, marina
from HellyB
Have just returned from Dom Pedro after a week away with my mother. We booked a Club Room with a sea view. Expecting something amazing the way they described it but allocated something standard and we wouldn't have expected anything less. However, clean, large and sheets and towels changed everyday (or though that isn't very environmentally friendly!). The hotel must have some kind of a design fault and not sound proofed properly. You can hear everything your neighbours are saying, walking around and the noise of chairs being dragged across the floor was constant from above and below. (Be warned you lovers!!) Only book B&B as so many lovely restaurants around the marina that you don't want to be stuck in the hotel each evening and the restaurant has no atmosphere due to hardly anyone in there. There are some great restaurants just away from the marina in the squares and you won't pay as much either. The pool and the grounds were very well kept and lovely to sit out around (or though ensure you take flip flops as the grass has spikey bits in it). Plently of sunbeds as our hotel was empty during the day - everyone on the golf course! The resort is full of groups of men ("blokes" rather than "chaps"!) on golfing breaks, apparantly the season ends end of May and then all the families start to arrive. Unfortunately due to the large number of men in the resort, every single bar/restaurant now seems to think it is OK to have a plasma screen up showing footie! Last visited the resort 8 years ago and it has gone down market since then, O'Neills have moved in, say no more! However, Vilamoura is a lovely resort and the beaches are great and I would return again.
Fantastic
from Stunt_Girl_Sophie
Take it from me, the people that are rating this hotel badly obviously had all their senses turned off during their stay! Fantastic hotel, just got back 3 days ago. The first day, we pulled up outside the hotel, it looked lovely, painted an interesting colour, but still lovely. The staff were brilliant, at your every beck and call. Very friendly and chatty. Food was amazing, huge veriety, catered for everyone. Pool and grounds were brilliant! The only problem was some roudy guest staying next to us, but the next day we complained and the problem was delt with very quickly and never had any problems after. The hotel was great, definatly going back next year!
Great Base for Golf Holiday
from BoyceyCheshire
Stayed last week @ the Dom Pedro for the first time with the Wife and Inlaws for a 1 Week, 5 Round Golf Holiday. Ideal positioning for the courses around Vilamoura with easy access to the courses. Can only agree with the comments of the previous two reports. Clean, nice food, nice surroundings. Only problem was the Casino was too near. In there every night !!! If there is a show on @ the Casino I would recommend it. A 'Happy Meal' for 27 Euros includes the show, meal (which was excellent) and first drink free. In fact the Casino was one of the places with the cheapest drink. Waaaahhhheeeeyyyyyyy !!!! All in all, Vilamoura a great place to stay.
A great hotel.

As a family we adore Vilamoura - it is a clean resort, feel extremely safe and you are realyl spoilt for choice for restaurants. Now for the hotel. There was my wife, my 4 year old son and myself and we were a little apprehensive about having a boisterous 4 year old running around, not all hotels are suitable for this. First impressions are that of a well run hotel who's staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The reception area is very large with plenty of places to sit. Walk through some glass doors and you come to the outside bar/pool area which is extremley impressive. The main pool is large and there are 2 mini pools for the kids, the water however in the kids pool isnt the cleanest and seemed to be constantly cleaned, when asked the pool - man said it was because of the suncream coming off people and floating on the surface - not a great reason but at least there was an explanation. The grounds itself are vast, lush and loads of palm type trees dotted around which provides excellent shade. The bar area is covered with huge individual parasols and large tables which easily sit 4 people. At the top part of the grounds is a childrens play area with a climbing frame, slides, swings, sandpits and a little wooden gazebo type thing that hosts a play club. As the paranoid parent that I am, I felt secure that my son was safe. The sunbeds, well there are hundreds and no matter what time you get down to the pool, you are guaranteed one, maybe not in the place you want but even the worst position is pretty good. We found the staff really helpful and pleasant, you felt confident asking for something which wasnt on the menu and they all made an effort with the kids. We didnt have evening meals at the hotel, only breakfast, which was pretty much spot on. The rooms, well the rooms don't look anything like they do in the brochure to be honest, they are pretty basic, they have a tv, bath/shower and a balcony. It isn't really an issue for us as all we really did in them was chill out and sleep - you don't go on holiday to sit in your rooms. If you do, then you won't like the rooms here. At night, on the balcony, there is no noise, no music, you dont really hear anything - perfect. All in all - an excellent family holiday, there were plenty of children there to keep the kids occupied. There is also a play room down some stairs in recpetion, pool table, video games, ping-pong - very impressive. Would we go again? Absolutely.
Fantastic value out of season
from pete1977
Two of us visited the Dom Pedro in December 2006 for a golf break - very out of season and therefore both the hotel and the town were very quiet. However this meant we enjoyed fantastic value for money - a twin room with breakfast for 7 nights, for 2 adults, for a total of less than £200 (ie £100 each)! Breakfast itself was very good and despite being very quiet, the hotel didnt scrimp on variety or quality. Each morning there was a selection of breads and pastries (including some portuguese items), hams and local cheeses, hot breakfast buffet, cereals and fruits (albeit some were canned - however at this price our expectations had already been exceeded!). The hotel itself was nice - our room though reasonably basic was clean and comfortable. I would add however that the hotel offers no iron or ironing board so iron before you go - the staff did however offer to put me in touch with housekeeping who could do my ironing with their industrial presses instead though I assume there would have been a charge for this. The pool and garden looked nice - although this time of year it was 'just' warm enough to sit out in, but the pool was so cold it gave you cramp just dipping your toe in! For the time of year though, the weather was lovely and absolutely perfect - during the day the temparatures got up to I would guess 23-ish, and the sun was shining. Gets much cooler by late afternoon though so beware. Tennis courts were of a good quality, though there was a charge. Again, given the hotel was so cheap and empty, you wouldnt begrudge them making a token charge for the courts! Including rackets it was 18 euro and for that they let us play for as long as we wanted to. The location of the hotel couldnt be better - next to the casino, a 5 minute walk into the lovely marina. It's also just a couple of minutes to a nice looking beach though of course at this time of year we didnt pay it a visit. The town and marina was very quiet (though busier at the weekend with locals) and lots of the restaurants on the marina were closed - however there was still a very good selection, many specialising in fish and local dishes. Step off the marina to the streets running parallel to this, and you find many more 'local' restaurants and bars - we found the local people to be incredibly friendly and welcoming. These places off the marina were also busier (in a good way!) and cheaper, and these places and the people in them, along with the fantastic golf, really made the holiday for us. Would absolutely recommend at this price, and will be going back next year!
Don't Fall for Freedom Pass
from minnie-n-jerry
We liked our room which was spacious, kept clean and overlooks the hotel pool and the sea. It's only a short walk to the marina, the beach and the neighbouring market town of Quarteria. There was nightly entertainment at the hotel which the older guests seemed to enjoy. There could be noise from neighbouring rooms but on the whole we were fortunate. Eating out was convenient but more pricey at the Marina due to the views. However, the Chinese restaurants there offered better value than the others. There was a wide selection of breakfast at the hotel - both English & Continental but the English breakfast lacked variety and quality. The standard of service during breakfast from waiting staff was acceptable but not very friendly. Reception staff are more friendly. When we arrived, we were asked to collect the Hotel's "Freedom Pass" which apparently bestow privileges to visit 2 other Dom Pedro hotels nearby. Our advice is unless you are interested in finding out about holiday packages with the Dom Pedro Group (very similar to "time-share" ), then don't bother with the "Freedom Pass" or you could end up losing your freedom from 2 hours to half a day of your precious holiday time!
Very nice hotel
from LouboutinLover
Have only just found this site so thought id share my views! Only stayed here for 2 nights with my boyfriend as a birthday present and thought it was a nice hotel. We were b and b so cant comment on the dinner but breakfast was fine-the norm fry-up,cereals,toast etc.. never had to queue for table or food. Pool area lovely-plenty of sunbeds, a guy walks round and finds you one then gives you cushions-we didnt get up until around 11am and always found plenty spare. The hotel is just a short walk to the marina with lots of restaurants and bars although the better restaurants are hidden in the backstreets so look around! All in all had a lovely time at the hotel and would return.
Ok, not great
from expectant customer
We had 2 rooms, the one my son was in was good, ours was a bit shabby, older bathroom, and you could see a difference in decor and appearance between the 2 bathrooms. Facing the front, no real noise, quiet enough. Pool area OK, lots of lawn, but when I was there a shortage of sun loungers. Also residents from other local hotels that DO NOT have a pool, come right in and use the nice pool here, no checking! I know, I watched them, and they took all of the sun loungers! Breakfast, 2.5 stars Self serve, food so-so, coffee poor, can do better! Room itself needs a refurb (15 years ago!) Lounge, looks big, on c;ose inspection also needed a change of furniture to a more comfortable, modern style. Could be better here too. Receptionists I thought OK, not rude, nothing great. Stay again?....would probably try something else
Perfect Time at the Dom Pedro
from peach-melba
I don't have a bad thing to say about the Dom Pedro! My husband and I stayed in it for a week in September. The lobby is very large and clean (although a little dated) Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and a porter took our bags to our room. The room was large and have all you needed. Beds were very comfortable, TV, Iron, Mini bar etc. They are not the most modern I have stayed in but when abroad all I look for is clean!! Breakfast was lovely every morning had choices from eggs and bacon to breads and meats to cereals and pastries. I didn't feel the decor in the dining room was upto much so we preferred to sit in the outside area. We were only B&B so I cannot comment on any other meal times. It is very handy to the marina which is beautiful and also to the beach. About a 5 min walk to both. All in all we had a fab holiday and I would not hesitate in staying in Dom Pedro again :-) If I can help neone in ne other way pls feel free to mail me on debbiejenkins490@hotmail.com
Avoid like the plague
from BlearEyed
The impressive 4 Star appearance of the lobby hides the horrors that you will encounter during your stay. If you like a good night's sleep - forget it! If somebody flushes their toilet two doors away, you WILL hear it. The walls are so thin and the tiled floor acts an amplifier. Then there is the local bar accross the street, that opens until 5am! The beds are like sleeping on concrete floors and they make so much noise, every time you turn over. However. if you enjoy DIY, you will be in your element replacing the false ceiling, which constantly blows off in the wind, and working out how to restore your electricity supply each time it cuts out.
The front and rear gardens of the hotel are fine; the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the place looks clean, but when you've said that, you've said it all. Inside there is no carpet anywhere - not in reception, the lounges, the corridors, the rooms. The floors... more
