We booked this hotel through Alpha Rooms and flights via BMI baby as this was £200 cheaper than through Thompson and Thomas Cook.
The hotel was clean and presentable, reception staff were very polite and helpful at all times. Bar staff were ok but the prices they charge are very steep, we nipped out of the hotel for drinks, just over the road there's a bar called the Don Quoite which has excellent staff and nice snacks and meals. I would highly recommend you eat there at lunchtime and save a fortune. At night go the El Matador which is in a side street just up from the Marina, happy hour nightly 7-8pm, really nice staff and a spleasant atmosphere, we loved it. Petuna's crepe and bar and cafe is worth a visit too.
Breakfast was good, the only drawback was there was only one toaster and at times the queue was 10 deep, why they don't have two I'll never know. We stayed B&B but bought three nights half board for 13 euro's each, this was a mistake as the evening meal was not that good, typical buffe food.
The sunbathing area was excellent free beds all of the time and plenty of shady or sunny spots, pool was ok too.
I would go back to this hotel, however Vilamoura is too quiet for me and I rarely go to a resort twice as I always like to try somewhere different every holiday.

Stayed there for the 2nd year running. The hotel is excellent! Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice pool area with outside bar.
Landscape gardening in progress while we were there last time but it didn't spoil our holiday.(the sun and beer made up for it!).
The hotel offers a free transfer service to all local golf courses which is great if you haven't hired a car.
Vilamoura itself is a very beautiful marina with an abundance of nice bars and restaurants to indulge in.
I recommend seeing a show at the casino, it’s not quite the west end but for a bit of entertainment, food and drink it’s great.
Looking forward to next year already!

Clean rooms with good views of pool and garden, excellent garden setting with 90% of sunbeds situated on grass 3 well maintained and clean pools.
Breakfast is buffet but plentiful but get there before 9'oclock or risk a wait for seats.
Staff very friendly if a bit slow with bar orders but reception staff top class all in all a very pleasant hotel to spend a holiday in with everything including beach, marina, bars and restaurants all within 5mins walk.
Minus points - the corridors are like echo chambers and you can hear everyone’s movements and voices, magnified to the point you will swear that they are in the same room as you.
The entertainment of an evening is dire unless you are into Latin dancing and songs from the 40's and 50's and the sound system will rattle your fillings if you are in your room ( echo chamber effect again ).
But there is more than enough to do in the resort that will allow you to miss the entertainment.
And anyway it mercifully stops at midnight.
Would I stay there again? Certainly! The plus points far out way the minus.

Rooms very clean and comfortable. Food excellent - and no problems getting an early breakfast (see previous review - we did not have a problem).
Hotel overall conveniently situated, and well maintained - light and airy atmosphere.
Hotel Bars expensive, but many local bars within very easy walking distance.
Some surly drivers on golf course (and particularly airport) transfers - but not the Hotel's fault. As with previous review, they perked up when your hand went towards your pocket! Otherwise, all staff very pleasant, helpful, and efficient.
The only complaint I heard during a whole week from my group of twelve golfers was that one of the pool cues in the basement games room needed a new tip! We'll be there again next year.

The accommodation was ok, if like us, you took the two roomed apartments. Not luxurious but ideal if you are just looking for somewhere to crash. Comfortable and clean.
One comment, if you need breakfast before 8.00 it could be a problem.
The hotel also provided free shuttle bus to all the golf courses in Vilamoura, carrying up to eight at a time. Most drivers were fantastic, although we did come across one who really only smiled when he thought he was getting a tip!
Ideal place to be situated if you do not want to hire a car.
The local facilities were brilliant, with many restaurants all in walking distance and local shops/supermarkets.

The front and rear gardens of the hotel are fine; the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the place looks clean, but when you've said that, you've said it all. Inside there is no carpet anywhere - not in reception, the lounges, the corridors, the rooms. The floors are brown tiles; the woodwork is painted brown and the towels are brown. This makes for a very Spartan place, and a very noisey one too as there is nothing to deaden the sound of high heels or drunken golfers. Beer is expensive at Euro 4 for 0.4 litre. At the current rate of exchange, that's about £6 a pint. Bacardi & coke will set you back Euro 7.50, and don't even think of looking in the mini bar where gin works out at £150 a litre. Phone calls cost 7 cents for 3 seconds - that's about 4 times the cost of a mobile phone. This isn't published anywhere, or if it is, I didn't see it. Dinner, though ok, is limited to a choice of 1 meat dish or 1 fish dish and 2 assorted vegetable dishes. Starters are a selection of 8 or 10 troughs containing tomatoes; lettuce; ham (one day) cheese (1 day) etc. Pudding was a selection from 3 cut up cake type things; a bowl of jelly and 3 bowls of fresh fruit. Oh, and there was a soup which changed colour, but little else, each day. If this is Dom Pedro's idea of 4 star cuisine, then they haven't been where I have - and I've been to a lot of places.
