Grand Royal Antiguan Beach Resort Hotel Reviews

beautiful location, ugly service

my story follows the same pattern as many, delayed flight and with the the type of service and attitude we got i would have rather been given the cash to find a pillow and blanket and camp put at the airport. Moreover I could not help to see a racial bias on display, especially after a caucasian man had to ask the receptionist to serve me first as i stood INFRONT of him and was waiting for more than 20 minutes to get my concerns addressed. half of my travelling party couldnt stomach the cold soup, only served after we protested being given chicken and fries like this was a burger joint. smh

Give this hotel a chance

Jun 2011, returners

My daughter and I have been going to the Grand Royal Antiguan resort for the past 16 years. we are fed up with people slagging this hotel off. Yes it did used to be much busier when owned by the Antiguan Government but the new owners are trying their best to put it back on track and have done a good job at refurbishing it during the past 2-3 yrs. It is never going to be busy again if all people do is moan about it and the staff. What do these people want? The Antiguans are the most lovely warm people you could wish to meet and we are made to feel like home from home every time we go. Yes the beach is quiet and the last couple of yrs we have been the only ones on it but come on!! it's a caribbean beach white sand and sunshine all to yourself what more could you ask for??? We will continue to go there as long for as lond as we can and if it is quiet because the moaners aren't there then all the better for us. Go to New York or somewhere busy like that if that's what you want. People go to the Caribbean to relax and chill and that's exactly what we do every time we're there!!! Only another 3 months for the next hol there and can't wait.

Grand Royal Antiguan Rip Off

We were in Antigua with Gullivers Travel to watch the cricket. Hotel had both teams and match officials were staying here but even so the standard of hotel was appalling. Areas around the lift and stairs filthy, bathrooms not up to standard, and for three out of our five days we were short of towels. Standards may have been one star but prices certainly weren't they were astronomical - meals seemed to factor in the taxi fare to St John's and drinks two to three times the cost in restaurants in St Johns.
Staff not particularly accomodating - apparently you need to ask for cheese on your burger despite it being itemised in the menu! A lack of facilities such as internet also made it necessary to travel into St John's and this created difficulties with our main aim - to watch cricket.
Avoid if possible.

We stayed on an all-inclusive basis....

We stayed on an all-inclusive basis. The location of the hotel benefits from a long, soft and clean sandy beach with drinks & food service on the beach.
The hotel itself is oK and accommodation was reasonable, but needs updating. Staff were friendly and got to know you quite early during our stay. The kids like that. Food and drink was good with plenty of Local drinks and entertainment. Try a strong rum punch! There is a good size pool with plenty of sun beds and a bar with drinks on tap.
Out and about there is plenty to do. Hotel taxis services will take you to any part of the Island. You can hire a car as we did to visit St John's and other parts of the Island. Our stay was during Carnival, when the Island comes alive with street partying.
Overall, if you go by today’s standards and what you would expect from Antigua, the Royal Antiguan needs updating, rooms specifically.

For most people, I would not...

For most people, I would not recommend. This resort is very empty (after staying there i know why). Do not consider this to be an all-inclusive, but more of a pre paid meal hotel. Food was not readily and easily accessible at all times. Outside of a few people, the service was very poor.
Most workers did not even acknowledge you and acted as if you were bothering them. Local beer was good, but mixed drinks, when you could get them, were not good. Rooms had cracked and leaky tiles, poor TV reception, and lack of hot water. For years I have traveled to the Caribbean, but this is the first time I have ever had to write a negative review. There was no entertainment as well.
If food, entertainment, and good service is not important to you, then this may be an okay place for you.
