Hungaria - mixed feelings
We stayed in the Hungaria Palace in June. It was our first stop on our honeymoon. The facade of the building is fabulous and gave a wonderful first impression. Inside was more shabby chic. However our room was large and very comfortable. We arrived after 9pm to two single beds in our room. However after having to explain that we were on our honeymoon the staff reorganised the room while we were out and left a complimentary bottle of Proscecco in our room, which was a very nice gesture. Location wise the hotel is ideal. You... more
Wow - what a find!
This hotel rocks for ambience! A charming hotel with character and far enough away from the Venice hustle and bustle while being brilliantly close to great beaches. Located on the Lido just a short water shuttle trip away from St Marks Square. The room we had 206 was large as we needed a triple room and looked out onto the main street. It was cosy and had all we needed. We would certainly return to this hotel it was a pleasant stay. The breakfast room is in a glass covered conservatory (adding to the ambience) and breakfast ample and good... more
A great hotel in a great location
The Hungaria Palace is a great hotel in a great location. The hotel itself is a lovely building with large rooms and good bathrooms. The staff are very friendly and most speak good English. The breakfast is good and there is a huge choice so there should be something for everyone. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout and I would recommend anyone to stay there. As for Lido as a location, I was a bit worried before my stay that Lido may be a bit far away from the main Venice attractions, but after my visit I would say that Lido... more
x A wonderful base from which to explore the enchanting city of Venice x
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel from 20th March to 24th March 2006. The hotel was as beautiful on the outside as inside, the room was comfortable and (to my delight) very quiet. The hotel itself was immaculately clean throughout, and the staff were all very helpful and friendly, even when we thought we had lost our room key. Unfortunately there were no double rooms left at the time of our stay, however after seeing we had pushed the twin beds together after the first night, the maids kindly made them the next morning using a double... more
Hooray the Hungaria
My wife and myself together with her sister and husband stayed for four nights 17-20th November. The rooms were good, very warm with excellent showers, king size bed and clean bed linen and towels every day. All staff without exception were courtieous and very helpful. In my view, there is no better place to stay in Venice
Romantic Hotel, Reasonable Price
We stayed at the Hungaria Palace Hotel for 4 nights out of season (November 2004). The hotel cost £215 in total for 2 on ---- - a fantastic rate for such a notoriously expensive holiday destination. I thoroughly recommend staying on the Lido. It has such a contrast to the main part of Venice. On a clear day you can even see the distant mountains from there. You also have no choice but to take a 10 minute waterbus down the grand canal to get to the main part of Venice...such a romantic ride, especially if you sit in the outdoor seats at... more
Shabby Chic
In October, the a/c was switched off, and the rooms on the 4th floor were at 24 C. The hotel kindly changed the room to the second floor, but it would have been fairer on all to have restarted the a/c. It seemed a reasonable hotel, but I did not feel we got good value for money. The breakfast was ok, but service was non existent. The lido is a brilliant place to stay if you want to be in the peace and quiet and yet have the main buzz of Venice only 10 mins away.
A pleasant surprise.
Having booked a week's stay at the Hungaria Palace we were somewhat dismayed to read some of the negative reports posted. Therefore we felt going with an open mind was essential. From the moment we walked into the foyer the hotel had a "good" feel to it. The reception staff were very efficient and helpful as were everyone else we met. The public areas were immaculate and the flower arrangements very fresh. As for our bedroom - excellent. A decent sized bed which was very comfortable and a beautifully appointed bathroom. The only small... more
4 stars?????
After a 2 week holiday touring the Veneto, including a stay in central Venice, we booked into the Hungaria Palace for our last night. Location was reasonable, with easy access to Venice and the airport if needed. However the hotel and its facilities certainly did not add up to 4 stars, despite its interesting facade and supposed Victorian grandeur. Breakfast was supposed to be served until 10:30am, but when we arrived at 10:00am most of the bread and fruit had gone and we were told there was no more - not what we expected from a 4 star... more
a charmer
We stayed here as part of a group tour and were accommodated here at relatively short notice so I had no idea what to expect. The hotel's facade is a charming-tacky early 20th century one which makes it quite appealing. The hotel has recently been renovated with refurbished rooms which still have original (if not a bit squeaky) parquetry flooring and original beds and wardobes. Needless to say the matresses were very comfortable so I am sure that they are newer. Our room was very clean and freshly painted and had an excellent new... more
