Average rating 6, but it is rated on three different levels: Hotel, area and service from hotel staff, Food...1, Balkan rep...9
Bulgarian diet is very poor and it is reflected in the food offered (and this is a 5 star hotel). If you like cold fried eggs, which are over cooked, you are in for a treat. The evening menu offered a lot, but, it was poor quality again, with a dire lack of fresh vegetables. I sent one meal back because I couldn’t even cut the thin slice of veal, and then veal was taken off the menu for the period I was there leaving just chicken, tough pork or fish. Accompanying every evening meal was tomatoes, cucumber, rice and chips. I had enough after a fortnight of the ruddy things !!!
The hotel is in a convenient position for most things, but be very careful of the road outside, it seemed to be just tarmac on a dirt track with the resulting potholes, a lot of people have tripped over.
The resort is like Spain in the 60's and is still developing. Nightlife needs to be more varied, not just pubs with a guitar group or the bog standard discos.
Khan’s Tent is an oasis in the desert where entertainment is concerned. Dress in your finest, relax and watch the floor show. Food is exceptional (so it can be done!) a bottle of wine is included.
The beach is sandy but it isn't cleaned every night because all the sunbeds are still left out.
The Black Sea is warmer than most hotel pools and is shallow for several metres out.
Watch out for pickpockets. I met two people who had been robbed possibly by children on a crowded bus, also I witnessed 3 children running through a crowded street after what looked like another attack, zigzagging through the throng in different directions.
It is still a cheap country to visit, the people are helpful and friendly. So if you decide to go there, enjoy yourselves and you will still bring back a lot of your money.
