Columbus Hotel Reviews
" This hotel was absolutely beautiful!... "
Submitted By: Mrs R Cunliffe
This hotel was absolutely beautiful! The room was clean tidy and ridiculously spacious (particularly considering we had the cheapest one too!).
The staff were very friendly and helpful even offering us free champagne since it was our honeymoon (although the tour operator did promise us a free room upgrade, it wasn't much of an issue as the room we did get was a very high standard)
The pool was in a stunning location overlooking the sea and the helicopters flying in! Although it was a little hard to find the staff were very helpful pointing us in the right direction. (And that is probably down to our innate lack of sense of direction rather than the location!)
Breakfast was lovely with a large range of continental and cooked items on offer.
My one criticism of the hotel was that although Monaco is small the roads are very winding and The Columbus is a long walk from almost everywhere. I have to admit that as lovely as the hotel was if we went for a short time again I would pick a hotel closer to the centre. But that really was the only fault I could find with it!

The range of breakfasts was also very good with fresh bread, croissants, cereal or bacon and eggs, lovely coffee and fresh fruit juices. A very friendly concierge recommended other restaurants, a friendly “English “pub by the harbour, and where to get the bus into Monte Carlo itself. Eating out in Fontvieille isn’t as expensive as we thought; on Valentine’s night we ate at a very crowded restaurant on the waterfront, where we had a beautiful three-course Italian meal, with two bottles of Pinot Grigio, for under 80 euros. The following evening we ate at the neighbouring “Michelangelo”, where the “bleu” fillet steak was absolutely gorgeous, and the wine just as good. That meal was so fine and the wine so potent, that I can’t remember how much it cost and still don’t care!
There is, as recommended by our friendly concierge, a good, cheap, regular bus service into Monte Carlo, which is very useful, as it’s quite a hike from Fontvieille. To sum up, this was a hotel and holiday that made us feel very special, and didn’t break the bank (at Monte Carlo or at home).
