be cautious with this hotel!
5 / 10

WARNING (happened to us and other(!) people:
Surmeli has absolutely no problems to book up their hotel even if you've booked nicely in advance and paid everything on time through a reputable travel agent like we did. Upon arrival in Turkey, Surmeli appeared to be full and we were dumped in another hotel that completely didn't meet our expectations. Result: our holiday was completely ruined. Surmeli left us completely in the lurch. You are warned: you like gambling? Be sure to book Surmeli. You want confidence? Ignore Surmeli!

  • Advice: ignore it!

We just came back,we try our best to enjoy our holiday.but we didn't really. the most important things is the air conditioner dose not work, they have it but they don't turn it on, the food is almost similar every day.If you are going there book the new building part which are the apartment and has got a very good view ,clean with air conditioner. DO NOT GET THE FLIGHT FROM BODRUM,IT TAKES BETWEEN 2 TO 3 HOURS,GO TO IZMIR WHICH IS ONE HOUR TRANSFER.

  • Advice: get the flight from izmir airort, do not book the room in the main building .

I just come back after staying 7nytes at surmeli efes and i must say we had a brilliant time.We booked online through a company called Holiday Gems. After i read the reviews on surmeli efes i wasnt to sure to book this hotel but am glad i did because we loved it.We got to the hotel at 8pm after a 4hour flyte and a 2hr minicouch transfer frm Bodrom. As we got to the hotel we were shown our rooms.I travelled with my husband and 3children aged 8yrs 5yrs and 7months.We was given a garden room wich was outside the main hotel,we was on the 2nd floor and had a beutifull view of the outside pool even though when we booked it said we would have the seaview bt we were happy so didnt complain. The staff were really nice and friendly.Everyday the rooms were cleaned and a bottle of water was put in the minibar. The room had a hairdryer a minifridge. The animation team were really good they had activities for kids all day as well as activities for adults, they had mini disco for children every nyte and shows going on.The food was k bt similar food everyday .Bus stop ryte outside the hotel, abt 15minutes it took to the citycenter, bus alot cheaper then taxi, they charge 4lira per persn in bus wich is just under 2pound.people really friendly in turkey. The city center has Mcdonalds and other restaurants, desighner clothes shops, handbag shops etc at really good prices. The wednesday market is good u can grab bargins.Every thursday there is a market at the hotel so if you dnt get to go to the wednesday market you can get a bargin here.Overall i would recommand this hotel and its definatly a 5* AND CANT WAIT TO GO BK NEXT YEAR.We went in April so the weather wasnt to good if you want sunshine dnt go in april..

We've never been to Turkey and the Surmeli Efes looked good.
We were not disappointed - yes its a 3 hour drive from Bodrum (get a flight into Izmir, its nearer and the road is better)
Hotel is superb, the staff very polite and helpful, the variety and quality of food is excellent, unless of course you want English, then don't go!!
The service we received was brilliant - it was my Wife's 50th birthday whilst there and the hotel recognised the special occasion.
Those who have complained that the AC doesn't work unless the balcony door is closed well, think about it - that's what supposed to happen, its the same with the car AC, windows shut = efficient AC - don't be stupid.
Kusadasi town is only a 3.5TL (£1.75) bus ride and 10 minutes away - shopping in Turkey is fun, nothing is priced, the price is what you agree with the vendor, if your happy so beit, he'll still be making a profit I'm sure.
Full marks to the Surmeli Efes, Kusadasi and Turkey for making our stay one to remember - we'll be back next year.

Worst ever holiday of my life
1 / 10
Sep 2010, Chris

Air condition working randomly at the discretion of management. Not working during night and afternoon (27-30 Celsisus in the room all the time). If one can sleep in such conditions, Surmeli is the place.
Complained 4 days, offered other room with same problem!? (AC is stopped from central level, so in each room is the same...). They are simply fooling the clients in a unbelievable manner. Good to go probaly in winter when it is cooler (do they have heating...!?)
Hotel very outdated, I saw a management opinion that 5 star means the number of facilities, and not the quality of them, he is probably reinventing the world...... Manager said as an answer to my complain that if I only have to complain about AC, it is not so bad. What about my terrible sickenss given by the fan we used desperately to get some horrible sleep ?

Holiday is 5 star, clean and well kept. The food is excellent. Only fault being that it is out in the sticks. Staff ok. Animation team very good too.
Dont' book a tour through Handi of Libero. She is very rude.
Be prepared for a 3 hour coach transfer from Bodrum!

Misled by marketing
1 / 10
Jul 2010, louise

This is not a 5 star experience. We were supposed to stay 5 nights but checked in and then out within 21hrs.
Staff were rude and not well trained, not understanding the basics of customer service. Food/cutlery were of poor standard and clearly focused on margin optimsation over quality - catering for the all inclusive customers who were by far the majority. If you had not been branded with the all-inclusive wrist tag you were unable to get served for even simple essentials like water. Rooms were sub-standard: old, shabby; obviously no reinvestment since the hotel opened for business. Generally one feels like cattle in a cattle ranch being herded by unexperienced and uncaring staff who through self belief thought they were beyond customers simply because they worked in a "5 star" establishment.

  • Advice: I would advise them not to go

This hotel just keeps getting better. This is the second time I have stayed there and it is much better.
The room was for 4 of us and was an extremely good size. It was much better than expected. We had a gorgeous view and 3 balconys. The decor was abit dated but other than that was kept very clean. The fridge was filled with free water every day.
The animation team were fantastic. Always dancing around the pool and playing games. They do activitys all day if you want to take part. The shows at night were abit cheesy but they were funny. We could still manage to have a laugh. After the entertainment the animation team will take you into kusadasi on a bus to the clubs, this is obviously optional and will bring you back around 3am. Very lively down there and definatley worth a visit for most ages. Kevin, Steven, Cemal, Gurkan and Özgecan deserve a special mention. Always made time for us and would also come for dinner with us etc.
The food wasn't the best but there was always something you can eat. They have barbeques outside the resteraunt which always did lovely food. During the day there was a resteraunt near the pool that does chips, pizza, burgers, spagetti bolognaise. Pretty much the same stuff every day in that resteraunt but its good for snacking during the day.
The pools were always clean and were always busy so there was always something to do! Beware the animation team do push you in some times haha! Or squirt you with water whilst sunbathing! Just a bit of fun and it doesnt always happen!
The hotel's private beach is great. Lots of activitys. Jet ski's and parasailing etc at a reasonal price if you bargain with them! Lots of fun. The sea isn't the cleanest but its clean enough to go in. There are lots of sunloungers and also has a gorgeous sunset at night to sit and watch with a cocktail.
There are several bars and there are small queues sometimes but nothing major. Along with the entertainment at the ampitheathre, the pool bar has a live act on every night, usually its somebody singin and playing guitar, something like that but its good.
The hotel has lots of facilities. It has shops on the complex, when we was there there was even a market on the complex a few nights. Several pools. Several bars. 5 Different resteraunts. Lots of activitys. It is a bus away to the centre of kusadasi. About 5 minutes on the bus, but its worth a go.

  • Advice: Definatley try it.

We spent two weeks at this excellent hotel in MAY 2009.It is A long transfer from dalaman airport but we had done this journey several times before so knew what too expect. The drivers break the journey at half distance and this helps.
This hotel is very large but quite relaxing and the staff are professional ,work hard and still remain friendly.
The food is very good when you take into consideration that they are catering for all nationalities.Dining outside in the evening is a wonderfull experience.
All in all a very good holiday plenty to do if u r feeling energetic and a great beach to relax if u r in a lazy mood.As ARNIE once said"I WILL BE BACK"

It was OK

This hotel is very big. The building looks attractive from the outside. Every room has a view of the sea, which is rather nice. The rooms are OK but they could be much better. We had some trouble with the air conditioning a couple of times. It only works if you shut the balcony door properly, which can be hard to do because the doors are very stiff.
There were lots of flies in the hotel! In fact I had to go to the hospital because I had an alergic reaction to the fly bites. Also at night there was a rather odd, abnormal smell that was very disturbing. Nothing could be done about this smell.
The swimming pools were quite big and nice. As there was 3 outdoor swimming pools, they were not overcrowded and nice to be at. During our stay the indoor pool was underconstruction but it is quite small and everyone in the lobby can see it, so I don't know how comfortable that would be.
The sea was good. As it was a private beach, the beach was also not crowded.
The animation was alright. Although it started to get boring after a while, as they were playing the same songs every night! (We stayed for 2 weeks, so imagine us!)
The snack pool was good. However, the hotel is rather stingy with their drinks. They give it in small cups. In the dinning room by the time your drink arrives, you would have finished your food. Also, they put a lot of ice in the drinks, so fizzy drinks were not fizzy at all!
The disco was OK but again they played the same songs every night.
Overall the hotel was clean. The lobby was big and spatious. However, there are no security cameras in the hotel at all! That could be a big problem in terms of security. Any one could just walk into the hotel from the beach and no one would realise.
Every floor has a big balcony that everyone could use. This was nice.
You are only given one key for your room. This could be a problem as you have to always find the person who has the key to get to the room. You can also go to the lobby and ask them to open your door for you, however it takes ages for someone to actually come. If you want another set of keys, you have to pay for it.
Despite everything, we really enjoyed ourselves. (We were a group of 8 friends)
It felt like we were in a 3 or 4 star hotel.

Best Hotel we have used in Turkey

Although the decor in the bedrooms is a bit dated, and the lighting could be improved, the public rooms are well kept and comfortable.
The staff are very helpful and cope with the language requirements of at least a dozen countries. We had no difficulty being understood.
The entertainment team work tirelessly to ensure that everyone knew what was going on, but were never "in your face" when they approached to encourage participation.
We found the food plentiful, varied, and tasty. Our problem was making a choice, so we normally had a bit of each dish . Breakfast was again plentiful and varied, and hot dishes cooked for you were available at no extra cost.
Please bear in mind that this is a large hotel and plays host not only to coach tours, but to Trade Fairs and Conventions, so the Dining Room can become very busy on occassion. However the other facilities, such as pool and bars etc so no influx of bodies so it was business as usual.
The swimming pools were cleaned each morning before 07.30. Sunbeds could not be reserved before 08.30 and the management would remove towels placed on sunbeds before that hour. Plenty of sunbeds were available at any time of the day. Likewise there were many sunbeds available on the beach with plenty of sunshade.
In the evening an accomplished pianist played "Palm Court" type music in the Lobby Bar, while the entertainment team put on a varied show in the Amphitheatre.
The hotel is three miles from anywhere, so going for a walk after dinner involves walking along an unlit dual carriageway, and there are no local bars and shops to provide for ones needs. We didn't walk anywhere.

  • Advice: The hotel is about 5 miles from Kusadasi, on a gently sloping sandy beach.
  • Activities: Only ate twice in Kusadasi and can't remember the names of restaurants.
