I would recommend Marcos Beach to anyone. I have been visiting Ios since 1989 and actually met my husband at Marcos Beach that same year - a little biased I know! I have watched the hotel progress from being a lot smaller and pool less - to a very comfortable and hassle free hotel. Jackie, Marcos and the boys are wonderful hosts and very good friends.
We have always enjoyed the hotel's quite secluded position and relish the nerve wracking hike down the track to the beach- even in the dark! The rooms are spacious and always clean, the bar always well stocked and very relaxed. You can always meet an interesting cross section of people - never a dull moment
Marcos Beach will always have a very special place in our hearts, and we try to get back as often as possible.

You have to go by ferry from Santorini to get to the island of Ios.
We stayed at Mylopotas which has a lovely sandy beach about a mile long and is the best on the Island. Life is quite rural here in the "Real" authentic Greece and at times it is like living in the past. There is a small selection of excellent tavernas which sell many home made dishes. The way of life is laid back and slow, don’t expect to do anything in a rush.
Tourism has not really developed here yet which is great. We stayed at the family run Marcos Beach hotel which was very friendly and the rooms were satisfactory. Breakfast was basic but all round we enjoyed it here and came home fully refreshed.

Just got back from Ios yesterday {26.06.07} and I am missing it already.
The resort of Mylopotos is a weird sort of resort as on one hand there is nothing to do but on the other it is full of young body beautiful who do nothing but lie on the beach all day.
The beach is fantastic but there are very few restaurants to eat out at and of those that are there the menu is arranged around all the young back packers who buy a couple of gyros [kebabs] and then spend the rest of their money on booze.
Before we went we went onto loads of different websites and they said that there was continuous parties on the beach right below our accommodation and it was full of naked bodies.
This was far from the truth; it’s a beautiful place with fantastic beaches. The nightlife centres around the capitol of Chora [hora] which is also known as the village. I would describe it as a small Lindos built up the mountain with a church at the top.
The village livens up around 10.30pm and it becomes bar after bar with a lot of eateries in between.
During the day there is not much to do as there is a local bus service which takes you from the port [excellent to eat at and lovely beach for during the day] to mylopotas via chora. As Olympic don’t have many rooms at the property you don’t get the service of the rep, just a contact number which means no excursions. You can do car hire but to be honest it’s just beach after beach.
The accommodation was basic but that’s the same everywhere in Greece but its owned by a local guy and his wife who is from the UK and both are lovely and very sociable and to some extent made us enjoy our holiday to the max as nothing was a bother.
I would recommend this holiday to anyone as you can get away from the nightlife by staying in resort or you can be in the thick of it by jumping on the local bus and paying 1.20eur to chora for an excellent evening out.
The Marcus Beach is a lovely property in a excellent location with sea views from every room.
Do yourself a favour and go to Ios as if you don’t you are missing out on a fantastic little island which could be just right for you.
