Half Board - Never Again
from tony1england
After a long 3hr + tranfer the wife & i finally arrived at the Parador Hotel in the early hours of the morning. The reception there seemed quite pleasent & we looked at each other & gave it that silent nod of approval. Once in the room the attitudes changed. The wife had a look of horror on her face, & as i looked around the room i could see why. The carpet was scruffy & curling up at the edges with traces of a mould type substance on the skirting. The furniture was unstable & very cheap looking. The decor was shabby. I looked at the wife & appolagised, as i had booked & paid for the for the place. In response she cracked open a bottle of Baileys & we finished it off & feel asleep. In the morning the room looked even worse, but we both agreed not to let it spoil the holiday. Both hungry we went to breakfast for the first & last time. It was terrible as was the evening meal we later found out. So for the rest of the 2 weeks we ate out each day which was brilliant. Cheap, tasty & variety. The resort is lovely, the weather is red hot the people friendly. The condition of the room now a distent memory. Cheap food, cheap drink, cheap shopping, cheap excursions. If your a culture vulture then this is the place for you. Although some of the excursions can be a bit of a trek like a day travelling, sightseeing stop the night, then return to resort. But there is alot more closer to the resort. A day at sea on a Gulet cruise, very cheap, we paid £27 for us both which included all drinks, food & transport to & from the harbour. Nights around the resort are great. At no time did we feel at threat. We often stumbled back to the hotel in the early hours of the mornig after trying out a few open air disco bars. These people here offer & provide a great service. They have to, it's their living. Sometimes a bit over the top, but always in good faith. I know i've gone on abit but i will conclude with this opinion, advise for you. If staying in a Turkish resort, go self catering. The food & drink is Exceptionally good & very. very cheap. You get closer to the local people & culture. These are the folk that will make your holiday a very relaxed & enjoyable Experience! Thanks for reading, Tony.x
Great place to relax

This is a review of the Parador Apartments not the Parador hotel.. the Parador hotel is on the beach front (almost) whereas the Parador Apartments are set back and about a 10 minute walk to the beach. We returned from 7 nights in the Parador apartments this morning and we wish we had booked longer as we didnt want to come home. The apartments are basic but clean and have everything you need in them (we only used the kettle, cups and fridge in the kitchen so not sure whether the 2 ring elec hob worked or not). Other people had cooked in their room and said it was all ok. The staff are really friendly and Mehmet (at the pool bar) is brilliant. The cleaner came every day although theydont change the towels and bedding daily. Be warned.. you cant lock the door from the inside so the cleaner just knocks, waits a few seconds and walks in (my boyf learnt that the hard way lol!). The pool is quite cold but lovely when its hot (the sea is actually warmer!). People leave their inflatables there so there is lots to do once you are in. Unfortunately due to the high rise apartments around the pool its hard to get a sunbed with the sun on it all day - we didnt mind as the hotels beach isnt far and the sunbeds and umbrella's are free there. The apartments are a short walk to the start of the strip of bars and restaurants although if you want to walk to the Harbour (where there are lots more shops, restaurants, bars & clubs), it takes about 20 - 30 minutes to walk or its no more than 8 - 10 lira in a taxi each way. The food & drink is more expensive in the harbour so be sure to haggle or, say that you are going to look at other menu's first as they will then give you lots of freebies to get you in! If you want an English breakfast with proper bacon, sausage and Heinz baked beans, you need to go to Big Bens (everyone knows where it is!). They wont hassle you to come in as they do quite well from word of mouth I think which is quite nice. If you want a good Turkish Kebab, there is a nice place 2 minutes away from the apartments, just turn left when you come out of reception and they are on the next corner. It is very very cheap and the staff cant do enough for you! We didnt do any excursions as we literally wanted to chill and do nothing but apparantly the boat trips are good and you can haggle for a very good price (dont pay anymore than 20 lira each and make sure that includes food and soft drinks!). We booked our holiday through TravelCare and whilst they were very good, I looked on Thomas Cook direct to look at the hotel and I could have booked it for £100 less so make sure you shop around. We paid £400 for two adults for 7 nights self catering and it was worth every penny, I dont think I would have paid anymore than £500 for it due to the location but Alanya is typically a German & Russian resort so there arent many english hotels there.. if you want English, I would recommend Icmeler / Marmaris. I hope this review and my pics are helpful, if you have any questions, feel free to email. Have a lovely holiday and remember - most people will write if they have had a bad experience but say nothing if it was good!
Dont Stay Here
from Chicita1
We booked our holiday through a renowed Uk Travel Agent. Unfortunately having arrived at this hotel late we were shown to our rooms very quickly by the porter. This hotel is classified as a 3 star but having been a frequent traveller to many resorts etc i personally would not grade this as a 3 star, more like a 2 star. food was basic, the menu was very basic and repetative. It was 95% cold and when told staff this they did not seem bothered. The only good thing about this hotel was that it is within easy reach to the beach and oh yes it is spotless...but needs a total refurbishment as the decor is very dated. Majority of the staff are very unfriendly and obnoxious. There were only two members that appeared to have good customer service skills which was the young male on reception and the hotel manager. If you are looking for something cheap with no frills this is the place to stay.

we stayed at the parador hotel for eleven nights. rooms are very basic . but it was the food that was rubbish, horrible fish ect. alanya is very busy so if its peace you want, dont bother with this location.
Good Hotel but ........
from lotteSheffield
everyone seems to think that the hotels food was horrible but when we went we took a bit more money incase we had to eat out but we allways like the food...even the kids !! We stayed at the Parador for a week and we wished we had stayed longer!! The only downer was the aircon, if your aircon broke then you was in REAL trouble!! My daughter nearly fainted due to the hotness humid temperature in the room. the other problem is when you has a shower, you came out and you were literally swimming in the water. Would go back to Alanya but not that hotel
basic but good value and location is superb
from thetravellerEssex
the appartments are located in a quiet area but only 5 mins walk to the bars and restaurants and a 10 min walk to the hotels beach. in the summer months turkey is boiling hot during the day and hot and humid at night. air con is a must but the only air con available in your bedroom which will cool the whole appartment if left on all the time. there is no air con in the hotel itself. rooms and facilities are basic but adequate for the price of the trip.the pool is small with about 40 sun loungers and has an average depth of 5.5ft. all the shops sell cheap copied desinger clothes, shoes and handbags but haggle for a good price. a lot of restaurants of much the same but the good ones are a bit off the main beach road.
OK, but penny pinching

Just back from spending 14 nights at this hotel as part of a package deal. In general the hotel is fine, everything clean, the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is generally quite, as its away from noisy bars and clubs. But the big problem is the evening meal. There is no menu as such, just one dish, and if you dont like it, tough. The chef does a great job with what he's been given, buts that's very little. Typical meals are chicken stew (in 40 degree heat!), indescribably bad fish, tiny little beefburgers - all three of them! with oven chips. I could go on, but that should give you an idea. The only positive thing is the choice of salad/mezes. If you want a sweet, then that's custard... pink, brown or white. Or a tiny sponge soaked in golden syrup. Or a piece of melon. The same three choices every night! I was hoping for something like baklava, but no chance. One of the most annoying things was the fact that they did not even serve water with the meal. If you wanted something to drink, you had to pay for a beer from the bar, and of course the beer is 4 times the price it is in local restaurants. I should stress, that this is only the evening meal. The breakfasts were very good. Cereals, breads, cheeses, eggs, the usual Turkish breakfast fare. This also included coffee. The hotel is a pleasant 20 minute walk from the main center and harbour. But if its hot, best take a bus, its only 1 Lira. By the way, the cheaper dolmus buses have disappeared, only city buses remain. The hotel has its own section of beach with beds and refreshments hut. The problem is that if you want to just catch some sun for an hour by laying on the beach without the need for a sun bed, then its very dirty. The staff seem to empty the ash trays on this part of the beach. Its much better to walk up the road a bit and sun bathe there. All in all, I would recommend the hotel, but only as bed and breakfast.
loved parador appartments
from Gazelles
Parador appartments are great if you want to do your own thing in Alanya. Self catering, basic facilities but adequate, eating out is cheap - loved big brother down on the harbour. One bedroomed appartment is spacious and was fine for us as a family of four. Maid kept the room clean and all the hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. Pool was clean, kids loved it. Also has free use of beach which again was clean, kids loved the little rock pools.

Arrived 05.30 in morning and were shown to our room which was on the side of the hotel over looking the street but also had view of sea/beach and castle room very clean and tidy although basic.clean sheets and towels every day all staff very friendly and helpful we were B&B but both breakfast and evening meal could be eaten poolside don't look for egg n bacon you won't get it but always a good selection of yoguart cheese ,eggs breads and cereal as well as friut, honey ,jams and olives 'Happy bar' on the corner does 'heinz' beans on toast and typhoo tea !!! ate at many of the resturants between hotel and town not one bad meal try the turkish menu the foods lovely. Leila the thomas cook rep at parador is 1/2 local and was a great help. rooms on 'The Gold' side can be a bit noisy from the constant music but that did not affect our room. Alis bar to the right (as you leave) of parador is lovely for evening drink both ali his wife and the family are very friendly big ben and crusoes are ok, the reps meet in big ben but go to queens square for some free entertainment and a good laugh coyote ugly turkish style in the open air!!. Get the tourist bus from out side tourist office up to castle don't go with anyone who offers to show you the way up as a couple at our hotel had a very nasty experience and were robbed, do get the dolmosh to DIM CAY its lovely and the bus rides an experience, sedye castle is good evening trip , perge and aspendos worth seeing but long day on coach and has inpromptu stop at carpet factory .

We ended up in this hotel by chance, a bargain holiday experience. We found it to be basic in decor but very friendly and really clean. The view from our room was excellent taking in the sea, mountains and castle on the hill. We would certainly return here again.
