" Not as good as previous years "

On arriving at Pakefield, we did receive the chalets that we requested last year, but alas also same 'iron marks' on the carpet that were there last year. No chalet maid service all week, obviously too busy looking after the club chalets ( that cost more )..Food has always before been excellent, but the standard had decidely dropped this year...blue coats not friendly like other years, if you could actually find any...hire equipment, what hire equipement? everything seems to have been put away because it was too them the end of the summer season, perhaps we should have a rebate !!!!!!
The whole camp seemed a bit like a ghost town....but one thing was in favour...Lowestoft beach was lovely and at least the sun shone. The kids club seemed to have had magicians every night, and as it was called The Crocs club, we only saw him once in 7 days, why? Maybe you should employ bluecoats that actually want to do the job, because the ones we had seemed very bored.....But most importantly food hygene leaves a lot to be desired, leftover foods from previous day..i.e.left over fish/chicken in the salad bar the next day.
We have always praised Pontins at Pakefield...but this years makes us wonder if they will even be there next year....

" kids loved it!!!! "

Booked this short break mon--fri through pontins directly.
Choose club apartments on a half board basis which was ideal for our party of four, two teenagers and two adults. The site was clean, the staff were friendly-check in was excellent-really quick.
The girls loved it, they joined in activites, both free and the PGL activities, they said the evenings passed too quickly for them, i found that some nights there was too much focus on the nippers, but the blue coats done a splendid job.
My niggle was that the evening entertainment wasnt well advertised in advance we didnt know when there was a tribute band or outside entertainers on as oppossed to a blue coats show.
The price of drinks was what i expected to pay in a holiday centre, the service at the bar was usually ok except at busy times when there was a bit of a wait.
The food was fine, plenty of variety even for fussy eaters. Salads were lovely--no omlettes available which was unfortunate as i remember from previous visits these were enviable...better than my own-so i was told.
The location was good, we visited lowestoft and great yarmouth while we were there as we like sandy beches pakefield is shingle.
Enjoyable time was had by all.

Advice: better weather than the north east and the sea is warmer-worth the travel.

" I love Pontin's Pakefield "

My family and I have been going to Pontin's Pakefield since I was 8 years old...I am now 21 and I love it so much, I am starting work as a Pontin's Bluecoat in June.
I don't think anyone can be disillusioned enough to believe that any holiday centre/park/package in the world will be loved or hated by everyone who reviews it. There will always be mixed reviews. I have to say though, that my firends, family, and I, who have loved being at Pontin's for so many years, would NOT have kept going back year after year if it was as bad as people on here say.
People are always going to have bad experiences with any holidays, and that is a terrible shame, because they are the odd few who are missing out on the great side of it we all see! If the soul focus of their holiday is "oh no, the shower only stayed on if you kept pressing the button", then they probobly aren't suited to holiday camps?
Anyway, Pontin's has always given us years of fun., entertainment, and friends. I just hope people have as good an experience as we have!
Sarah Milner

" WE HAD BASIC CHALETS.. A LOT OF... "

WE HAD BASIC CHALETS.. A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS SITE WHO SPOKE FAVOURABLY ABOUT PONTIN'S PAKEFIELD, HAD CLUB CLASS CHALETS, WHICH IS FAR SUPERIOR AND COSTS APPROX £20 EXTRA EACH. THEY ALSO HAVE CHALET SERVICE EACH DAY AND A FREE NEWSPAPER EACH DAY.

THESE CHALETS ARE REALLY HARD TO GET, AS EVERYONE WANTS THEM.

BASIC CHALETS ARE AWFUL - DAMP AND SMELLY - SEE MY PREVIOUS LISTING.

" Dirty accommodation. Filthy carpets... "

Dirty accommodation. Filthy carpets and bathrooms. Had to get our toilet seats changed they were so stained and dirty. Had to call plumber in straight away as no heaters working, shower not working. No chalet maid service.

Indoor pool was clean, but one shower in changing rooms running all the time. Shower on pool entry not working. Lifeguards not at all bothered re showers.

Timer switch on our showers in chalets, you had to hold your hand all the time on shower to keep it working. Which was impossible whilst showering.

Food good but badly stained carpet in camp's dininghall.

Nothing offered as couldnt exchange accommodation as was told on arrival BEFORE we even got our chalet keys - camp was full up and no one can changed their accommodation.

We were sadly disappointed. Entertainment good but we reckoned it was more comfortable and cleaner even living in a tent!! Writing to head office to complain. Also to BBC Watchdog and Trading Office.

Very embarrassing as I recommended holiday to my two friends.

" I visited Pontins with my Partner and... "

I visited Pontins with my Partner and my 18 month old daughter. We had booked a classic "chalet"which was very basic and smelt quite a lot like mould and damp. However we did open the windows which seem to help. The food was great, really can't complain. Once thing I will say is that the outside playground was brilliant and kept my daughter entertained for ages! Despite this with my daughter being so young there weren't many activities that we could of participated in as the swimming pool was closed down due to "unforseen circumstances" which was disapointing. I have to hand it to the staff there, they deal with some really auckward people (one man was complaining that there was no maid service and about the fact he had to walk to to other end of the resort to get clean linen?) I think what people tend to forget is that it's not a 5 star park but I think the price you pay for the holiday reflects this. Overall our stay was ok, I would probably visit again if there was a special offer going on, I certainly wouldn't pay full price.

" My wife and i will make this short as... "

My wife and i will make this short as possible as the complaints and what we saw could take a long time.the chalet we had number447 which we booked for four nights 15/09/08 to19/09/08 wreaked of cigarette smoke when we arrived at our chalet to the extent of being a stench,we left the door open and opened the windows to try and get rid of the stench but to no avail as the stench was in the curtains as well as the whole chalet,we arrived there just in time for evening meal after the meal we would complain but after the meal which was lukewarm we talked to two ladies who had complained to reception about there chalet only to be told they would have to stay there as there was no other chalets available so we thought what was the point of complaining we will go home in the morning as we did not want to breathe that stench of smoke in to long. When the morning arrived we could not wait to go home we had packed our clothes which where on a rale and which wreaked of the smell in the chalet which i had to take to the drycleaners when we arrived home to get rid of the smell, there was nobody at reception when i went to hand our keys back at8-30am:we where that glad we where going home, other complaints to name a few: chalets beds which i asked for singles where childrens beds turn over and you would nearly fall out, drink prices i thought where steep for pensioners (example)£3-00 a pint,£135-00 each as it turned out was expensive for one night but after that experience we where just glad to get home. PONTINS..........NO THANK YOU.

" Visited Pontin `s Pakefield for a... "

Visited Pontin `s Pakefield for a football tour weekend and our family group of 9 thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We were concerned about the standard of accommodation prior to our visit but need`nt have worried. The chalet `s were fairly basic but clean with reasonably comfortable beds and hot running water for the showers. No problem for a 3 day stay but may have been too small for a full week.

Food was good value and plenty of choice for all. The food hall was huge so there was never a need to queue and always plenty of space to enjoy your meal.

Camp is kept clean and tidy and the grounds were immaculate with the beach only a 5 minute walk away.

Loads for the kids to do i.e swimming ,snooker, pool , table tennis and amusements and many activities only needed a refundable deposit which is refreshing as normally these places try to make as much money out of you as they can.

All in all an excellent break. Our age group ranged from 10 to 66 and all would look forward to another break at Pakefield Pontins.

" I have just been on a New Year Jolly... "

I have just been on a New Year Jolly Boys/Girls at Pakefield. This is not my first time and will not be the last. A great time was had by all. The entertainment (Four Tops) was good and the Fosters was the best I have ever had. Without a doubt this holiday is excellent value for money.

On the negative side, there was no evidence of chalet maids. We did not have clean towels or sheets for the duration of our stay until we requested them.

" We went on a Pontins Gold Turkey... "

We went on a Pontins Gold Turkey & Tinsel break to Pakefield last week.. What a great time we had! So much fun and laughter! We went with two friends, who had recommended it to us, and we certainly don't regret it. Having been to similar breaks before in hotels and holiday camps, this is the best.

The rooms were spotless and all on the ground floor. The staff are amazing, so helpful and freindly, and the food... there are lots of choices, with three meals a day, including a huge full English Breakfast. They "pretend" it is Christmas day on one of the days, and you have wine with your meal (FREE!) a wonderful Roast Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings, and lovely live music in the restaurant.

Lots to do in the daytime, including trips out on the coach and at night, Bingo, Cabaret, Dancing, Comedy, Bands, you name it.

All for £99 (we got a last minute deal).

Come on! Those that have complained on here must be very picky indeed. I certainly don't know where else you could get such accommodation, service, food and entertainment for the price.

The real test is that we have booked to come again, so that says it all.

" The only reason I have not given this... "

The only reason I have not given this a 10 is because the food could be improved. Recently I attended the " Sounds of the 60's " midweek break and have to say it is one of the best holiday camp experiences I have ever had.

The chalets were clean and comfortable, the food was adequate... the breakfasts excellent, but the evening meals could be improved on, and the entertainment was first class. I have been to Pontins camps in the past and the standard of the bluecoats has left a lot to be desired, however the ones at Pakefield were absolutely brilliant, talented and friendly, and the Entertainments Manager- Graham Henry was superb...all in all a brilliant week which I would recommend to anybody who loves 60's music.

" Stayed on many holiday centres over... "

Stayed on many holiday centres over the years in the uk, Pakefield might not have many facilities but it more than makes up for it in the immaculate centre and unbelievable friendliness of the staff, who are available even through the night and cant do enough to help you.

Will be booking again, have a look great place. The beach is a stones throw away and probably the best in the country by a long way. Visit the lighthouse the staff are great, the bluecoats are young but very talented and smiling. Catering staff work hard and are very helpful. Room windows could do with a clean, but bright and well cared for rooms. And if your kids wander security seems to know where everyone is.

I'm going back for half term.

" Have just returned home from Pontins... "

Have just returned home from Pontins Pakefeild Suffork. Accomodation was good as we had booked 4 club chalets, but couldn't have the chalets specified, as we had asked for 4 particular chalets when we booked 12 months ago. Surroundings were nice, beach is really nice. Not much for older kids to do during the daytime apart from swimming but we did go out a fair bit to visit Norwich, Ipswich, Lowerstoft and the Broads.

Staff were o.k. but could of been more pleasant to us scouses.

Food was o.k. Would only go back to use as a base again and for the beach.
