" Arrived on Sat for a weeks holiday... "

Arrived on Sat for a weeks holiday with children AGES 3 and 10 years. Mainly go to Butlins so when we arrived and saw how small the park was I just knew my son would be bored. Be warned very quiet site, small play park and a club room.

Food was not quite as good as Butlins but fair, with choices to suit everyone. Classic accommodation. Rooms were very damp and not very clean. We had our room changed but the next room was very much the same, very damp. Oh shall I mention the Rentokil traps under the bed!.

Clubroom entertainment fair, no big names. To cut this short on Sunday the next day we decided to leave.....

" We have just returned from a 4 night... "

We have just returned from a 4 night Gold Break to Pontins Pakefield.

As we were with a coach tour we were upgraded to the club apartments, which were very clean and in a beautiful area of the centre.

The only slight drawback is they have patio windows, which meant we had to draw the curtains during the day due to the lack of privacy because of the patio windows looking directly into the bedroom.

The food was excellent! With an excellent choice to suit varied diets.

The entertainment was first class with two cabaret acts every evening. The Bluecoats were fantastic! So young and so professional, it's hard to believe that these youngsters are so talented and happy with it. I felt there was high staff morale in the centre.

The grounds were immaculately kept and presented; the whole centre was very clean.

We were disappointed with the size of the Nisa shop on the site, it is much too small and too cramped to browse, you really have to know what you want when you go in, and then make straight for the till. Pakefield really need to address this.

I would definitely recommend Pakefield, which in my opinion is now on a level rating with Blackpool which has always been my favourite.

During the last four decades we have mainly visited Blackpool, and then did the Dolphin in Brixham which burnt down, Also, South Devon which then became the Torbay Chalet, and Barton Hall which was actually owned by Fred Pontins and is now a PLG centre.

We have recently stayed at Wall Park in Brixham on a Sun Holiday as we live in Devon, this centre is reasonable, and also Prestatyn last May 2006 which was disappointing, it was like a housing estate and the entertainment complex smelt damp and foisty.

We would like to see Brean Sands, also Camber Sands and find out what they have to offer.

Half Board and full Board as offered at Blackpool and Pakefield is much better value, and because of everyone eating in the centre, the bingo is much better attended as guests have their meal and drift to the bingo, whereas in self catering guests eat at different times and tend to spend more time in their chalets.

Blackpool and Pakefield will be our firm favourites and the only centres we will recommend.

" My wife and I both pensioners have... "

My wife and I both pensioners have been using holidays camps/centres for years. Changes that have been made are all to do with the money that has been put into the sites. Warners are the upmarket and for pensioners and Butlins and Pontins are run for families and special weeks for pensioners.

We recently returned to Pakefield and we had to change our room because of a noise from the swimming pool generator but the staff were excellent and accommodated us.

All in all the holiday was equally if not better than the one we had had a few weeks earlier at Gunton Hall Warners. The staff at Pakefield are very good indeed and the food provided also.

The entertaining with sequence dancing and 2 cabaret acts every night were excellent and how they provide this for the money paid I do not know.We have already booked again for next March.

" Recently stayed in Club accommodation... "

Recently stayed in Club accommodation for 4 nights half board.

Accommodation of a good standard: clean and well decorated. Room cleaned and towels changed daily.

Check in very efficient and staff very helpful. Wide choice of food and of a good quality. Lovely view of the sea whilst you dine. Evening entertainment also good.

Overall an excellent break enjoyed by all the family.

" If I could have given this site a... "

If I could have given this site a zero I would! I can’t understand how anybody can give this place anything above a 1, its disgusting!

We have never been so disappointed in all our lives. We were supposed to have a room with bunk beds and another with a double bed, we got 2 adjoining rooms with 4 single beds. The room was cold, damp and smelt of mould, the beds were covered in something plastic, which actually burned my leg during the night, as the flimsy sheet came off the bed to reveal the exposed plastic which I then got stuck to. There was no entertainment staff or any other staff around for that matter to complain to and the reception closed at 1.30pm.

What use is that? We stayed 1 night, went for breakfast and the 'cafeteria' looked like my sons junior school dinner hall, with plastic chairs and the tables were dirty. The food was horrible and cold. After complaining we were given a refund for the remainder of the stay, and was then told 'the weather doesn’t help, does it?' never mind the weather, the place is rubbish! We ended up about 30 mins down the road at Hopton Holiday Village in a fantastic caravan and our half term break was saved by Park Resorts.

My family and I have vowed never ever to use Pontins again. I know the break wasn’t expensive but we didn’t expect it to be that bad.

" We have just returned from the Sounds... "

We have just returned from the Sounds of the 60's four day break, and what a fantastic time we had. The music was great, the chalet was clean and tidy, the Food was very good, and I'm rather fussy with my food, the holiday site was kept in a very tidy order, the Staff were very helpful, I must mention the Entertainments Manager, Graham Henry what a great chap to have in this job real pro at his job. This is a first time holiday at Pontins and we had such a great time that we booked up before we left for next year, would certainly recommend Pontins. Dave Lee.

" I've been coming here for fishing... "

I've been coming here for fishing week for 8 years and i am now 16, it’s the best holiday ever and I and my mates gave the bluecoats a good laugh by doing the party dances! (I AM THE MIMIC MAN) We have a good laugh with the PGL staff and have noticed how they seem to tape the cabaret and play them in the lobby the rest of the week.

We love the neon puppet shows and Kicks and Tricks and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else, Colin is a really dudey bluecoat and didnt realise he'd been pegged. My mates were moaning bout the 'old' cabaret but mowtown is better than rap any day!

Can’t wait till next year, when I was little I was convinced I wanted to be a bluecoat when I grew up, kind of changed my mind but I wouldn’t mind doing PGL lol. I get so depressed when I have to go home (mainly because I’m leaving someone behind).

The highlights of the week are usually some thing really random like having a spider called Harry up in the corner and feeding it a cranefly called piccalilli. The people here are so friendly its unreal and 2p machines ROCK!

Oh yes, and I almost forgot

WE WANT CAPTAIN CROC!

" I have been coming to Pontins since I... "

I have been coming to Pontins since I was a little tiny baby, I am now 14, my mum has also been coming here since she was 18 months and she is now 38. We love it here. We have got to know all the blue coats and Graham. He is the entertainments manager and he is such a laugh. The blue coats are so friendly they will come and sit with u during the night and chat to ya. The rooms are not big but nice and beds are comfy.

We take our own bedding but that doesn’t mean the bedding there is dirty. The breakfast is great there and plenty of choice, as there is for dinner, there is a crocs bar for the kids and plenty of different food choices. There is also a choice of desert. During the day they do sports activities and at night there is a croc club for kids, with Punch and Judy shows or magic tricks, while over in the ballroom there is bingo until 8 o clock. Then they will bring in the kids and do party dances, with all the characters. Then there is normally a cabaret, some are good but some can also be poor. There is an amusements for kids to go to and it is safe!

During the day over the prince’s bar they normally have comedians and karaoke lots of different things so you don’t get bored. The h20 zone is a great swimming pool and includes a water slide. Plenty of life guards are there. There is a beach there to go to on a hot sunny day and a light house you can go up in to view the sea.

I enjoy Pontins so much all my family always come here. Christmas is the best, on Xmas eve they do a count down like New Years Eve and play Christmas music, they spray fake snow too, it is a really good laugh there, it is always decorated for whatever is happening.

You will have a great time at Pontins, I will be shocked if you don’t.

Frankie.

" We stayed at Pontins Pakefield during... "

We stayed at Pontins Pakefield during half-term week. Accommodation was better than we expected. Rooms were clean and tidy.
Meals were good. There was a good choice at breakfast and dinner. You can go and help yourself as much as you like. In the morning you can have cereal, fruit or a full English breakfast.
For dinner, there is an omelette bar, salad bar or a choice of 3 other dinners. The sweets were nice and a good selection.

We were lucky with the weather and were able to do pitch and putt, tennis and football. We also did cricket and rounders (our own version).

Each day there are activities. As my children were older (15 and 17) and we were in a big crowd, they were not bothered about the activities too much. Having said this, my son went in for the table tennis competition and snooker.

Evening entertainment is very much the same each evening. Bingo is at 7.30 followed by children’s entertainment. We saw a couple of good acts while we were there but there was a couple of poor acts as well. Good ones were the Young Drifters and the American Four Tops.

For the price we paid, £85 adult and £42 children for Monday to Friday, overall this was a good break and I would definitely go back again.
