" Very pleasantly surprised "

i was so scared about staying here after all of the bad reviews that have been written across different sites but i can honestly say we had a brilliant weekend and would go back without a doubt!
we arrived about 6ish on the Friday and got out keys straight away. upon entering the chalet we noticed a big of a cigarette smell but a quick spray of air freshner sorted it out. the chalet was clean, bed linen was clean and waiting for us. living room, bedroom and bathroom all plenty big enough (there were two adults aged 23 and 28 and two children aged 10 and 11 staying). the ktichen was clean and had a decent enough oven, kettle, a few saucepans, cutlery and plates etc. more than enough for what we needed. we cooked in the chalet every night with no problems. tv was fine, good picture. we were given an electric card when we arrived and only ended up using about £2 the whole weekend.
there were loads of things for the kids to do but i must say that it seemed like everything cost money. i dont know where the 70 free activities were! however the girls booked in to do climbing with PGl which cost £5 each and was well worth it. the session lasted over an hour and they both got a good go.
the fun fair down the road is well worth a visit...although be prepared to fork out for the wristbands. we only bought them for the girls which cost nearly £40 but they got their moneys worth.
they enjoyed the swimming pool and the arcade was really good. the clubhouse had good entertainment and the girls loved the bluecoats. you get a book of vouchers on arrival with some brilliant offers in - 3 for 2 on drinks and food etc.
i dont know why everyone says this place is really bad because in my experience it isnt. for what you pay you couldnt ask for much more.

" Sun budget hols here arent all that bad. "

Having read all the reviews that went before we were very apprehensive about our weekend away at Pontins Brean Sands booked via the Sun. I was expecting to walk in and straight back out again however.....We arrived approx. 1800 hrs and picked up our key with no queueing and went straight to our room without taking our baggage just in case. We were pleasently supprised when our budget room turned out to have three bedrooms for 4 adults and 2 children, granted the living area wasnt that big but it was clean enough.
There are plenty of activities on site to keep the kids occupied, however we were disappointed that we had to pay extra for them (what do you expect for a £9.50 holiday).

We didnt try the restaurant on site, instead we went straight across the road to The Place which was lovely and on the second night tried the Seagull Inn nearby again great food.
We had a great time at the Brean leisure park which is right next door to the campsite, however take care when weighing up whether to buy wristbands as we spent £25 on tokens and went on all the rides we and our two boys wanted to go on. Had we of bought wristbands it would of cost us approx. £70.
The beach at brean stretches for miles and if your stuck for something to do is worth a visit.
If your looking for a holiday where everything is prim and proper and like a Palace then Pontins Brean isnt for you however if your after a cheap family getaway and are willing to put up with the odd bit of mould on a window sill then this is perfect.

Advice: Somerset offers a lot for families but be prepare to pay.

Activities: The Place and Seagull Inn restaurants. Brean leisure Park and the beaches are worth a visit.

" Hi De Hi "

Been on the £9.50 Sun hols before and been to some lovely places. Thought we would try Brean sands this year , got there 5/10/09 and like everyone else waited for couple of hours to get our key. Kids didn't mind coz they went in play area to burn of pent up energy. Finally went to the fun factory to get our key. Thought it was some kind of bizzare game when we had to queue up in lines with our surname letters. Got our pack and the girl said " Theres complimentary £5.00 electric in the envelope" which immediately rang alarm bells. Anyway, parked up outside our chalet, got inside and was immediately transported back to a smelly 1970 s !!!!!!!! I honestly thought I had gone back in time!!! I stood waiting for Ruth Madoc to shout over a tannoy "Ello Campas and welcome to Idee I " Couldn't believe it. The chalet was dirty and stank of smoke! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the TV..... talk about old . I was pleasantly surprised that it was a COLOUR TV !!!!!!!! The decor is majorly outdated. I went to complain about the smelly chalet and surprise surprise they offered me an upgrade......FOR AN EXTRA £100......er......NO THANKS!! The only other thing they could do was send the cleaners around again, so they did. The cleaners were very pleasant and they commented that they spoke to someone who had been going on holiday there for the last thirty years and the site had not been updated in all that time. Says it all doesnt it??? Kids enjoyed the entertainment though. Did I enjoy it? The beach was clean in Weston Super Mare !! Would I go again? eeerrrrrr.....The beach is very clean in Weston Super Mare!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Advice: When you see the sign for Pontins in Brean just KEEP ON DRIVING

" Dont risk it !! "

Pontins Brean (Burnham on sea ) what a joke. This was booked through a Sun holiday. We thought we would try somewhere we hadnt visited before and picked here because it was close to Longleat and Wookey Hole both of which we planned to visit.
We have been on stacks at least 15 of the Sun Holidays before up and down the country and really have NEVER felt cause to complain about a location as we feel about this place.
It is an absoloute doghole!! The "chalets" are laid out like something from a POW camp stacked in lines overlooking each other directly in front and behind, so absoloutly NO privacy whatsoever. Inside our chalet as soon as we walked in the first thing that hit you was the smell, it was so awful like a mouldy cat urine smell!! The carpets were filty dirty (stick to the floor type) There was mould around the windows, the bathroom , the sinks everywhere. The furniture was less than basic, plastic filthy chairs and a knackered sofa bed to sit on. In the bedrooms the doors had been ripped off the wardrobes but kindly the rusty old nails had been left sticking out into the room and inside the wardrobes ready to either take a piece out of you or the clothes you dared hang in there. The heaters had the electrical wires wrapped around and around them so if you had of used them God only knows what would have happened. Thank God as seasoned travellers we had the thought of mind to take loo rolls, cloths, washing liquid, and basic things. (all of which in every single other Sun holiday resort had been provided). I didnt even want to unpack and could have quite easily stood in the door and cried when I saw what a hovel the place was. But hubby cajoled me into staying just for the kids benefit who were all so excited about being away! We spent as less time within the room going out at the crack of dawn and returning at night, and on the morning of checking out you didnt see us for dust. No we will never ever go there again.

Advice: Longleat was a fantastic day out, along with Wookey Hole.

Activities: Burrington Inn Nr Blagdon beautiful restaurant gorgeous food and friendly staff kids welcomed.

" Dirty and Mouldy "

I booked this holiday with Tesco Clubcard vouchers, and then read the reviews! Should really have done it the other way around. We arrived with much trepidation to book in, when we got there people were complaining about the ants in their chalet, to the staff. The staff look fed up, like they hear it all the time. Our chalet was dirty, there was mould growing around the window sills and seagull poo all over the windows. I spent a good 20 mins cleaning the chalet which quite clearly hadn't been cleaned for a long time. When we moved one of the single beds, there was a mouldy bit of chicken under it. The whole campsite looks like a prison camp, with overturned plastic chairs on the muddy grass, and cigarette ends everywhere. The swimming pool was filthy, the clubhouse had sticky floors and rubbish everywhere, and the crazy golf was a health hazard. Rusty nails, broken wood etc., the ONLY thing which made the holiday a slight success was the PGA activities on site. We would NEVER EVER go back to Pontins ANYWHERE, how they have the nerve to charge people to stay is beyond me. They are merely trading off their name from years ago. We went in the summer holidays and at least half the chalets were empty which says it all. HEED THIS WARNING!!!!

Advice: Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hollow great to visit

Activities: Tuckers restaurant at Cheddar Gorge and The Place opposite Pontins were great

" Not fit for a dog ! "

I have just returned from my aborted Sun Holiday Deal at Pontins, Brean Sands. May I take this opportunity of letting you know that I had to cancel my holiday within 10 minutes of entering the cramped, 2 bedroom apartment on Monday 21 August. I have never been in such a disgustingly dirty, cramped, dangerous and smelly room in all my life. How Pontins can get away with putting families in such rooms should be a case for Health & Safety and the Environmental Health.
To list a few examples as follows:
• Kitchen units with either doors hanging off or missing completely.
• The bathroom smelling of urine and not clean.
• Holes in walls just badly patched.
• Electrical appliances not up to modern standards or tested.
• No remote control provided for the television.
• Only plastic seating furniture provided.
• Bedroom furniture worn out and smelly.
• Cupboards broken and missing doors.
Indeed, the whole camp was probably constructed in the ‘fifties’ and I would hazard a guess has never had an upgrade since.
The above list is obviously not exhaustive as we did not spend any length of time in the apartment to study its deficiencies properly but I’m sure if we really tried we could come up with many more.
I also have to mention the occupants of the next door apartment, who thought nothing of throwing still lit cigarette buts and food out of their doors whilst my pre school child and toddler were sitting on the grass outside waiting to enter our room, heaven only knows what would have happened if either one had picked up a burning cigarette.
To top it all, when we were originally given our room we were only allocated a single bedroom for the four of us, so were cajoled into upgrading (at a cost of course) to a bigger apartment. We therefore requested a quiet apartment; instead we were sited exactly opposite the main pub entrance with benches right outside our door for drinkers to sit and smoke at until midnight or later - so much for quiet.
We therefore, in order to save a wasted long journey to the south west, had to book in to alternative accommodation in the resort, effectively paying for the holiday twice. (It has to be noted that we were not the only ones, as we happened to be at the head of a queue of likeminded people for the alternative accommodation that we chose).
As we have never been on a Sun Holiday Deal previously we may have been a bit naïve as to the standard of accommodation that we were to expect but even I have to say that basic I can deal with, but this was beyond that and way below anything I could have imagined.

Advice: Longleat is great to escape to for the whole family

" ......"NIGHTMARE"...... "

Arrived on Monday 21st September for a 4 day break full of excitment and ready to spend some quality time with my Husband and 20month old Daughter. Driving into the carpark we soon realised what a fabulous job their web page designer had done in making a shabby/dull "Holiday camp" appear to be a good idea. Check in was a joke, whilst queuing for our cell key sorry i mean "apartment" key i heard a women behind me saying that she'd been coming here every year for 20 years and it was getting worse and worse BIZAARE, but that set the the tone for the rest of our stay. Driving towards our allocated apatment they reminded us of a mix of a school science block and a dogs boarding kennels. The inside was worse, the least said the better. We went for a swim in a dirty grotty pool complete with floating crisps and filthy changing rooms. even our toddler turned her nose up. Other than a plastic slide outside the on-sight chip shop that i didnt see open once, there was nothing to entertain young children unless you wanted to spend all day putting money into the penny slots. The "Fun Factory" was anything bar Fun, with childrens entertainment not starting untill 8.30(childrens bed times, duh). Needless to say first thing Wednesday morning after yet another uncomfortable night in the cell, and eating the disgusting food they heated up in the pub. We packed our bags and left, taking the loss of £174.00 we'd paid. The funniest thing was when we went to check out 2 days early the girls behind the desk didnt seem suprised and didnt even ask why. My advise dont go.Glad to be home and to wash the filth of pontins brean sands off us, as we were too scared to use the showers there.

Advice: Somerset is beautifull, just dont stay in Pontins

Activities: On our way home, we went to Wookey Hole, definatley the highlight.

" Disgusting "

Arrived 21st september 2009 and left 22nd september 2009!
Abserloutly disgusting, the apartment was full of dirt, grime, dust, cobwebs and mould, The matresses had holes and rips in them with stains all over them. The bathroom had mould round the bath and sink. The curtains were hangin off the rails, windows looked like they had never been cleaned. We got our keys at 4:00pm and couldn't stop crying about what we were going to do. The outside of the apartment had paint peeling off the walls. Just because it is a budget holiday, doesn't mean it should be dirty! We left at 10am the next morning and when we got home we had to wash everything to get rid of the uncleanliness on us.
How the local authority gave pontins bream sands the lisence to operate is in serious question!
BE WARNED
DO NOT GO !!!

" DONT GO!! "

we are currently on holiday at this park. We have been on many holidays and stayed in many different accommodation, this is the worst. The walls are painted a nicotine colour with damp coming through in many places looking like dirty disgusting staines, the walls have pollyfiller patches. the mattress has half a dozen holes in it. The table and chairs are hard plastic like a school chair and unmatching colours. the kitchen utensils are pre war looking and i thought my serial bowl was a saucer. the bathroom is disgusting and you have the shower turns off automatically after every 30 secs as a water saving ploy. the whole place makes me feel like a time traveller back to the war days. i have viewed the standard classic and the club type apartments. they are both the same except club gives you a toaster and microwave. the place is way out dated and looks like it is stuck in a time warp. i cannot believe that a national company like pontins would put their name to such a dump. just goes to show its about the money not about customers satisfaction in my opinion. avoid like the plague unless you have very low standards. i am leaving and not finishing break as i have seen others do as well, oh also the walls are so thin and it is very nosiy as if there is only a blanket between each accomodation. -10

" Putrid Pontins ! "

After studying this site in detail prior to our holiday we were hoping against hope to come on here and leave a good review of Pontins brean Sands - No Chance !
We've done loads of Sun £9.50 hols before in Tenby and Newquay, west wales and they've always been great, but this place is the pits.
Parking was a stressful nightmare because they had closed a big car park for a Boules tournament and everybody was trying to get their car in anywhere.Bad start.
The apartments from outside were straight out of Hi de Hi but not in a nice way. Once inside though the fun really started. The carpet was like a pub carpet, the bed settee could have been lifted from a skip, the windows were damp and dirty, the 'furniture' also came from a skip, the pillows were falling apart, the bed mattresses were absolutely manky, the bathroom had 57 Varieties of mould around the sink and bath.
We dumped our stuff and took the kids over to the club to drown our sorrows. Entertainment not very good and couldn't hold kids interest. Beer flat and undrinkable so my wife headed off to complain to bar staff. She was told her Fosters was in the wrong type of glass, which is why it was flat, and the boy serving poured it into another glass ! When informed it was still flat he told her that it must taste different back in Wales ! Brilliant!
For the rest of the break we kept out of Pontins and only slept and washed there.
In short if you have a hol booked here try to get out of it and if you must go then take sheets or preferably sleeping bags, cleaning pruducts, and loads of cash as you wont want to eat in the room.
Cant believe they are allowed to trade and to anyone who says what do you expect for a £90 break I say you can expect a lot better than this.

Advice: Beautiful area and friendly people.

Activities: Wookey hole was a great day out.

" We were very surprised "

We went to Brean Sands with an open mind after reading such poor reviews on this site, deep down I was dreading what accomodation we might end up with and as we have a 2 mth old baby and some of the reviews were pretty bad. When we arrived we were directed to the Fun Factory where there were queues to collect our keys we only waitied 5 minutes and we made our way to the apparment which we found easily as the welcome pack we were given gave us a map clearly marking where we were. I was pleasantly surprised to find it clean and tidy although basic but it was a budget appartment and we had only book through the sun so we didn't expect a palace. The only thing we were slightly disappointed with was the double sofa bed it was very uncomfortable, we took the mattresses from the bedroom and made a bed up on the floor which was very comfortable indeed and we had no trouble sleeping. The staff were always friendly and helpful, the Queen Vic pub & restuarant were clean and not too busy we never waited long for our food to arrive once we had ordered it. The takeways were ok, the site shop had everything you would need for a self catering holiday. We did'nt use the pool but it looked very clean and well manned for the safety of the children. The entertainment was mainly aimed at kids before 9pm and then the Blue Coats put on a good show. You get what you pay for but we were pleased that we gave it a go and it really wasn't as bad as some make out on this website, there was a variety of people there of all ages I didn't see any chavs just families having a good time. We would consider going there again.

Advice: Lovely part of England very scenic

Activities: Cheddar, Minehead & a trip to Bristol Zoo is worth it.

" What a dump! "

We moved house so decided on a cheap holiday booked through The Sun. Other family members had been on Sun holidays before and had no complaints, so we thought we would give it a go.
We arrived at about 3.10pm, as we had upgraded to Club (what a joke) we could book in straight away, which we did. The camp reminded me of HI-DE-HI. Rows of Chalets. Parking wasn't brilliant but we managed.
We arrived in our CLUB accommodation, what a joke. IF YOU HAVE BOOKED TO STAY AT PONTINS BREAN SANDS, DO NOT UPGRADE. For an extra £139 we got a larger TV, a microwave and a toaster, oh yes and free electricity.
The CLUB accommodation was VERY basic. The toilet seat was chipped, I dread to think of all the horrors lurking in that chip!!! The apartment smelled musty and was in desparate need of updating. The curtains were hangin on the rails.
I wanted to go home immediately, but my husband wanted to give it a go. So we spent our holiday out of the accommodation, we only slept and washed there.
The Queen Vic pub was awful, no atmosphere apart from some Chav types shouting at the tops of their voices and generally being obnoxious. There were very poor acts on in the club.
I would urge you to change your booking if you have booked to go to Pontins Brean Sands. The whole site is in need of demolishing and starting again. What a dump!

" Not going there again! "

We book our 2009 holiday to pontins through the sun, at £82.00 for 4 nights it was a bargain.
When the detials came through they had put 4adults and 1 infant in a 1bed 4birth apartment. So i rang to change it for a 2bed which they did.
So we were going away 7/9/09-11/9/09.
When we arrived at pontins we had to wait 2 hours for our room, which was still being cleaned! So 5.30pm came and we were told, that they couldnt find our keys. They staff there were very unfriendly and not helpful at all!
When they finally came back after 10 mins, they told us they had to changed the date to 14/9-18/9. They had did this without telling us. They wouldnt give us a refund or another apartment as they were full.
We then had to pay £135.00 for 3 nights at another site. A this site was another family who were ment to stay at ponints, but left again without a refund as there apartment was dirty and the bath was broken!

Advice: Brean is a lovely area.

Activities: Ocean Cafe at Lazy Day holiday Park. And wookey Hole.
