Bank Holiday Weekend
5 / 10
Aug 2011, Curley

Stayed at Pontins over bank holiday weekend, had read the reviews beforehand so was very nervous. But found it not as bad as other reviews made out.
The holiday was through the Sun offer, so we were expexting basic, its a good way to get a cheap getaway on top of main holiday and our young children loved it.
We aimed to arrive after 4pm as we knew in advance by the reviews that everyone would be arriving for 4pm, hence long queues , we planned our time and visited some local attractions and had a meal in a local venue beforehand, arrived about 5.30pm and queued no longer then 20 mins to get keys. Had a budget appartment so very basic but was clean and ready on arrival, electrics were already on meter, and didnt even had to change cards over whole weekend. we think chalet had probably been recently renovated as had electric shower, also bath, sink and toilet were very clean. Simple instructions just have to be followed to get hot water as kitchen appliances are on same system, and its purely just a flick of a switch. Windows and doors were all UPVC which is better then some accomodation we have stayed in. To be honest i found it a shame as the staff work really hard & we founds its the clientele which ruin it for everyone else, we found some people were complete obnoxious and went out their way to ruin it for others, outside some chalets people had just chucked out used duvets and pillows and chairs etc - we thought this was totally uncalled for and made a point of leaving the chalet as we found it on departure day clean & tidy. We didnt use much of the facilities as we went on days out, there are some lovely attractions nearby , wookey hole, cheddar Gorge,& Weston Super-Mare Beach , what we did use of the facilities such as amusements all appeared to be in working order, the only areas i would admit were grotty were the public toilets. For eating venues they have a good time slot allocation plan, its just a shame its not observed by the clientelle . Would also advise getting to night entertainment venue Fun Factory early as was very busy and tables go quickly. All in all we enjoyed our time at Pontins and had a good time and would go again - ignore the other reviewsand make up your own minds

  • Advice: Visit local attractions, use holiday park as a base, observe simple park rules o make it enjoyable for your fellow holidaymakers

What a total Rip Off, Never again

My Partner and I planned a last minute trip to Brean Sands on a Pontin site, for our 7 year old son, we usually use Haven but was unable to get a deal suitable for our pockets, a sales representative at our local travel agents recommended Brean Sands with Pontins I was undecisive as I have never been on a Pontins site before, we decided to take the holiday as it was a last minute and wasn't really spoit for choice, We paid £200 for a two night break August bank holiday and was told we had a chalet which sleeps 3. We booked it and off we went on Arrival we had to purchase electricty which I was really annoyed about as this was not discussed, when entering the apartment I was very very disappointed it was a small little box not enough room to swing a cat, We was also greeted by a Large spider on the wall and he surely wasnt included in the price, anyway we opened the bed settee and my son jumped on the bed and bumped his head on a metal bar, we decided to try it for comfort and it was absolutely awful, so we had to get the two mattresses off the small beds in the tiny bedroom to make comfortable sleeping arrangements where we all slept, the kitchen was so small only one person could fit in it to prepare food, No Microwave, nothing, there was a small TV which the volume kept turning up on its own, the curtains were hanging off the rods and the dining chairs were black with inbedded grime, we had 3 duvets which were heavily soiled with urine marks and heavily soiled pillows. Now for the complex entertainment lounge, the carpet was so black with dirt I refused my son to even sit on it and the red chairs around the tables were black with stains and grime, however the entertainment was quite good, but the hall shabby horrid & poor, the games complex was a total & utter rip off where those with children were spending a fortune to get tickets for toys which you could purchase in any £1 shop in the midlands, very cheap rubbish toys which broke the same day. The ticket booth lady was stuck up ignorant and very moody when my son asked to exchange a toy which wheel had fallen off.. I really wanted a nice break for my son before he went back to school and I was very disappointed, We wasted £200 & also discovered that for an extra £38 we could have had a seven day stay so we were surely over charged for a stay in the worst place we have ever stayed in I welcome Haven anyday and next time I will not hesitate about cost.

  • Advice: Do not book with them use Haven.

Just returned from the longest weekend in history at Pontins Brean. We went with the Sun offer so we know it's the budget accomodation. Nevertheless, we expected minimum standards of hygiene. It was absolutely filthy. No plug in sink, no large pan to cook a family meal - they delivered one after 9pm when I complained. Shower curtain was black with filth and mould. The pool and spectator areas were filthy and delapidated. The previous occupants dirty linen was on the floor outside all of our apartment block over 24 hours, and was not moved until I rang and complained. Fag ends, no outdoor activities, except a playground that made our local park look like the bloody Eden Project. I have written a letter of complaint, but I doubt the management or the staff care. We could not wait to leave. This place needs raising to the floor. What a blot on the Somerset landscape. I will be reporting this dump to the Health & Safety authorities. It was shocking!

  • Advice: Don't go there. Get a B&B or something else locally. You'll be sorry you did. It will ruin your idea of Somerset.

We just got back from Pontins Brean Sands we were charged £200 total rip off, for a 2 night stay, when other guests paid £175 for a 3 day stay. On arrival to the apartment I was utterley disappointed the 1 bedroom budget apartment was appalling, and not enough room to swing a cat. On arrival there was a large spider right in the middle of the ceiling, the chairs for dining had dirt staines all over, The settee bed was so hard, my son bumped his head whilst playing and was extremely upset,we had to put two mattresses from the second room to sleep on for comfort so I my son & partner had to share. The duvets were heavily stained. The Kitchen was so small only one person could fit in to do dinner, No microwave! we had to pay for electric which was not mentioned until arrival, the entertainment venue was disgustingly dirty black stains over the carpet and black dirty chairs the entertainment was good but the leisure part, games machines were a total rip off, to be able to get a decent gift for your child with the tickets you would have to spend at least £50-100 for a toy which you can pick up for a £1 at the pound shop, which broke the same day, athe kiosk lady was very rude & ignorant lack of customer good service, overall rip off place, avoid it like the plague...

I Wouldnt normally write a review but seriously dont waste your money this holiday site has gone down hill tremendously since i last stayed. So bad that so many people checked in at 4pm and were checking out again at 6pm. The rooms were disgusting they need to sack the cleaning team and re employ. Matresses are threadbare and beds have springs sticking out of them. There is mould in all the windows and carpets are filthy. we went to the clubhouse 1 night and the chairs in there were so dirty you didnt want to sit on them.

We have just returned home after cutting our trip in half, the place was that bad.
Arrived Friday evening to find a massive queue (45 mins+) to check in, simply not enough staff to cope with the induction. Was prepared to let that go... however...
Arrived at the 'chalet' to find a huge pile of dirty laundry and rubbish outside - this mirrored in every row and outside every single set of entrance doors. This same laundry left outside until very late Saturday afternoon so pillow cases etc blowing around everywhere.
Made the mistake of going half board. food dire, service non-existent. The whole camp is dirty, bins overflow, harldy anything works, the 'entertainment' is appalling. Don't even think about the pool.
The whole place is a total eyesore. Will be complaining to Pontins at high level... What a waste of money.

I went with David Urquite Coaches to Pontins and was disgusted with the service we got on arrival. We queued for an hour to get out chalet keys in a hot room. When we reached our accomadation there were no sheets, towels, toilet rolls, tea or coffee. Eventually, after 5 hours from arrival, our sheets arrived, but no towels, we were informed we were not entitled to them! Tea and coffee were not given either. Had we been informed of this we would have taken our own with us.
The site is very old fashioned and needs to be shut down. I would NOT recommend this place for a holiday

This was a very busy site and on arrival we had high hopes.the chalet was beyond basic and at first we wondered if we had made a poor choice.a lot of the staff were surprisingly grumpy and the cleaners even worse.Linen from previous guests remained outside our chalet for two days.not acceptable.that said, our party of 8 quickly decided to make the most of our holiday.the kids weren't short of things to do on site and the park had some great activities all at prices more reasonable than anywhere else we've been before.happy hour in the cost queen Vic was a welcome surprise.all in all we could definitely overlook the accommodation issues as the site was good enough to make up for it!!!

Do not go, I wished, I believed the reviews,.the shed/accomadation was. So old, as standard, no micro wave, or toaster, u have to hire microwave, 15 pound.sofabed was broken and could not sleep on it.went to complain, 3 hours in the complaints q.a man in the q, had a toaster with a split wire, that had given his wife a massive shoch and burnt her arm.music was too loud for the kids.kids entertainment started way to late.drains in the pool and changing rooms were blocked, pool wqs close all day of admission. The quad bikes and go karts were good, and fare price, beech is nice and close, the play park was rubbish, one swing missing the other swing was about 3.5 feet off the floor, fag but everywhere, never, never ever again, don't go it terrible

  • Advice: get more staff, clean better, lower the music just a little, as standard you need a microwave, u would allways get it elsewhere, get rid of those terrible sofabeds, upgrade. the play area, kids entertainment earlier

Pontins Brean Sands - Never again

Booked a 3 bedroom classic chalet and were given a 2 bedroom!
We were told we could book in at 4pm, told to go to the fun factory, but not much fun going on in there, it was jam packed and they didn't even come out with the keys until 4.20pm, we then had to queue another 30 minutes just to get our keys. We then discovered we were a bedroom short, although there were only 5 of us we wanted bedrooms so no one had to sleep on a sofa bed, we went back to reception to complain and had to queue for 2 1/2 hours!, everybody had been given the wrong apartments or were so dirty they didn't want to stay there. So it's now 7.45pm, we haven't even got into the chalet, the kids are hungry and they tell us they are fully booked so there is no where to move us to, so I ended up on the sofa bed for the week with my son!
The only free activity was the swimming pool, everything else you had to leave a deposit and your room key. £5 for 5 minutes on the other activities could get very expensive, I had to tell the children we couldn't do it.
Will be writing a letter of complaint, just wish I'd read the reviews before we booked.
