" You get what you pay for....and then some "

I was literally dreading my 4 night break last week having read the reviews on this and other websites, and arrived at Brean armed with my own bed linen and copius amounts of cleaning products....
Yes the chalets look like they could do with being bulldozed, but they were not half as bad as I was anticipating. The bathroom and kitchen were basic but very clean as was the bed linen. There was no residual damp and no food remnants in the oven or on the carpet.
I admit that there is evidence on a lack of upkeep, for example where the condensation on the windows causes the black grime to build up, it doesn't take much to actually clean this off (it took me less than 5 minutes with a wet cloth) and these sorts of little things would raise the standard with very little effort. The important thing I thought was to give this constructive criticism to Pontins in writing in the hope that they would take notice.
The swimming pool complex also needs some care and attention, floors are not cleaned frequently enough in the changing rooms and there really is no excuse for cold showers and ripped cubicle curtains, but again all this was listed on our comments form.
What was not lacking at Pontins was the hard work and enthusiam of the bluecoats. The entertainment programme was absolutely fantastic and the bluecoat shows were highly professional. There was so much for the children to do they couldn't do it all. Also the restuarant in the Queen VIc was clean, spacious, reasonably priced and delicious.
The vouchers given out in the welcome pack meant that our nights out were considerably cheaper taking advantage of the drinks and meal savings, particularly being able to top up the childrens character mugs for only 69p.
My children had a fantastic week and after all thats who these places should be for. I thought it was well worth the money I paid.
If you want luxury you have to pay the price

" Fantastic "

I took my kids on holiday here last week and had the best time ever. After reading some of the other reviews i was a bit weary. But for the price i paid throught the sun holidays i could not complain. We arrived at 1.30 but unfotunately had to wait till 4pm till we could get into the chalet which was a bit of a pain.
Ok the chalet wasnt great , it was basic but clean and done the job. The kids were never bored as there was always something to do and the entertainment was fantastic. I had so much fun aswell as the kids. The bluecoats always had a smile on their face and worked dam hard all day long!
I would defiantely go back again as it was really good value for money and i hadnt had such a good laugh in ages
Thanks to all the bluecoats there for making it a memorable holiday

" Do Not Go. "

Just came back from Pontins Brean never again the apartment was filthy carpets disgusting, cooker sides & floor mouldy food. One big plus entertainment excellent but there again you could see the same entertainers the following day in many of the venues in Brean. Plus the price of drinks was extortionist it was a pound a pint cheaper just 50 yards from Pontins main gate.

" Just arrived back from pontins worst... "

Just arrived back from pontins worst holiday I been on. After reading reviews assumed people complaining and being fussy but listening to what they said was true. They are ready to be knocked down and modernised. The room was tiny took my son 3 years old and cousin 13 years old they both had to single bed each and we had a bed setee (rockhard and old fashnoed and old). Duvet quts stained also pillows stained. The carpets were dirty and stained could not relax when my son was in room just in case he dropped something on the floor as he may put it in his mouth. so much so I was every item of clothng we took even clean clothes. There was a big cobweb hanging from skylight and mould in bathroom had to watch my son every movemment. The room stanck of mould not even air fresner cleared it so I had to buy a plugin( helped a little bit but not much). The swimming pool was great for young kids as you could watch them go up and down the slide on their own but showers wre freezing cold in ladies(as a result first tim we had a shower in room enven then water went cold great). But follwing day we showred in disabled finally got a hot shower but floor was the dirtest I have seen had to stand on a towel. And water from shower running to entrance of pool.
The room in evening was ok wobbly tables and old. Thankully after bedng took own towels good job did not leave any. Went for food i bar there run out of meals offered us something else three minats later told us they runout this happened a few times useless.
The only good thing was staff all pleasant.

YOU COULD SAFELY SAY MY SON WILL NEVER GO BACK.

" What a fantastic break we had!
... "

What a fantastic break we had!

We started off with the booking in process and I must admit it did seem like organised chaos, but its not something that could be stated that would make the break a poor experience.

There were myself my partner and 2 of our friends, when we made our booking we did request that a chalet close to the ammenities due to my partners bad back.

We arrived to find our room was right up close to the main entertainment area and the room itself was spotless, it was nicely decorated out with wooden flooring and a twin room, fold down double bed in the lounge and tidy kitchen and bathroom just off the main room.

The accomodation was in my opinion of a very high standard indeed and could not have faulted any part of it.

The entertainment was based very much towards the children on the site, but there is options to go to the adult orientated bar "The Queen Vic" as opposed to the Fun Factory. The prices of drinks were quite good as I was expecting to have to pay £3 for a pint of lager but it was well priced at £2.80 which for a site just as this was really good and they give you a booklet of vouchers to use off food and drinks and you can buy a 4 pint pitcher for the great price of £7.99!

The staff were all really friendly and helpful, wether they were security staff or the staff behind the bars, all up for a great laugh and nothing was too much bother for them.

The food places on the site were pricey but there are plenty of shops and cafes just outside the site, IF YOU WANT ANY GROCERIES AT ALL THEN DO NOT BUY THEM FROM THE SHOP ON SITE there is a spar style shop just 2 mins walk outside the site that have loads of bits and pieces to buy at a spar style price!

I will agree with the comments that some have said that the other guests would not have looked out of place on the Jeremy Kyle show, the chavs of our world all in one place!! BUT what do you expect on a budget holiday such as this!

We had a fantastic weekend, with no bother and all of the chavs and some of the cleaner staff liked to stamp their authority but this was all part of the fun!!

This is not the Ritz, this is PONTINS!!!

I cant wait to book up again! Don't go here if you want 5 Stars! If you want a good holiday with a lot of laughs then go for it!!

" DONT GO BY THE PONTINS WEBSITE!

DONT GO BY THE PONTINS WEBSITE!

After booking first and paying in full and then reading this site, (silly me) I was very worried about going to the resort, and YES, sadly my fears were founded! This resort should be bull dozed and rebuilt, Pontins should be ashamed of themselves.

The room, was surface clean but the windows were covered in mould as was the bathroom so the place had not has a really good clean for a LONG time!

But the worst thing was the chalets are row after row of terraces there is NO privacy or safe place for children to play, my 3yr old was picking up old dirty beer glasses from the grass! Some of other guests would not have been out of place on Jeremy Kyle. ( though I apologise if you are one of the unfortunate few who booked in good faith and are a nice person) It was the worst 2 hrs I have ever spent on holiday. in the end we re booked a peaceful resort down the rd (which was 5* by comparason) and were given a FULL refund in CASH by pontins (which makes me think thay have to refund all the time) they didnt even try to argue, the girl on the desk Victoria was very kind and the only reason this place got the 2 point rating by me.

If you have any standards and are from a good home then DONT book this campsite.
Otherwise the area is very nice and good for the under 5's so pick another campsite and you will get a good holiday.

" I have just returned after what was... "

I have just returned after what was supposed to be a 3 nights stay. But came home a day early. This was purely because we could not face stayng in the apartment for one more night!

I have to say the resort its self was lovely and we had lovely weather. The only thing that spoilt it was the thought of going back to apatment at night.

I would rerturn to Somerset but wont be staying in Pontins again.

" We have just returned from a 4 day... "

We have just returned from a 4 day break to Pontins Brean Sands and after reading some of the reviews were half dreading our arrival, but stayed optimistic. The party consisted of myself, my wife and our 11 month old.

The booking in system is not very good - everyone crammed into a hall and made to wait until 4pm. Then a mad rush as everyone races to their cars to try and get a parking space outside of their appartment. Why Pontins don't stagger the booking in process during the afternoon is anyone's guess.

The room itself had all that we needed but was very smelly (damp) and not very clean.

Having read the reviews we took our own bedding (even though we had to pay for bedding as part of the deal) and I would recommend you do the same.

The pool was fine, but not very clean. The other entertainment during the day was available on request.

The onsite pub and restaurant were ok, although we only used the pub late afternoon and the restaurant for breakfast after checking out.

The onsite shop is open 8am until 10pm and is quite large and reasonably priced.

The site itself is located within walking distance of the beach and a couple of restaurants and within short driving distance of two or three beach resorts.

We would not return to Brean Sands, mainly because of the general lack of upkeep and cleanliness of the site, but for a very cheap 4 night break we made the most of it.

" If you are thinking of going to... "

If you are thinking of going to Pontins Brean Sands...DON'T....We booked last minute and thought we would book the club appt as it offers digital tv (there were 8 out of 41 channels & 5 weren't digital anyway) complemetary tea & coffee (4 tea bags 4 sachets of coffee & 6 sachets of sugar, as the appt was for 6 people that was 1 free cup each & you couldn't all have coffee at once or more than 1 sugar each). The website offers 50 free activities (there were 10) and the free crazy golf was muddy, slippery and the walkways had parts missing and the stairway had collapsed and was cordoned off with tape, it was an unsafe minefield to try & negotiate, it shouldn't have been open but staff were still happy for us to play there.
The appt was dirty & smelt of damp. The kitchen had mismatched crockery cutlery & utensils that were dirty when we arrived, the splash back was thick with grease & the cooker was filthy, the cream walls in the kitchen had dirty splash marks on them from previous occupants spilling something down them, the sky light was mouldy with cobwebs hanging off it & mould growing on the inside (& all this just above the cooker & worktops where you're expected to prepare food). The bedrooms stank of mould, mattresses were ripped, old & uncomfortable there were cobwebs in the corners & unsure if they had been cleaned as my 6yr old walked out with half a pack of nurofen plus that she had found under the bed, the bedding stank of mould & the quilts & pillows underneath were ripped & filthy. The front room wasn't much cleaner & the windows were covered in bird crap. The light in the frontroom was hanging down & the doormat had some sort of sticky gunk on it that you had to jump over or risk being stuck to (the clubhouse carpets seem to be made of the same sticky substance as you stick to them as well), we spent the whole week with newspaper over the mat. The chairs we were expected to sit at to eat meals were filthy & rusty. The bathroom was dirty & had mould & cobwebs in the skylight & also around the bath. The towels were ripped & some were stained.........All in all its so rundown it should be shut down or condemned, how Pontins have the front to charge what they do for this site is beyond me, if you have booked & can get a refund then you should..... If you are looking for a HI-DE-HI holiday then dont go here its more HO-DE-HO...

" Absolutely awful!!!! Never have I... "

Absolutely awful!!!! Never have I been to such a dirty place in all my life. Even as a student I spent time in some terrible places but Pontins in Brean is by far the worst. Blood stains, mould, sweat stains on the pillows, mattresses looked as though they have been taken out of a skip!!

An absolute disgrace, there is so much more I could write but am saving it for Environmental Health and the Health and Safety Executive.

The sooner this resort is shut down the better!!!!

" I am writing this reveiw on reading... "

I am writing this reveiw on reading the rest!!I have been to Pontins Brean Sands for the past 8 years and not only once a year but at times 3 times a year!! We have had some minor grumbles ie.food waiting time and on occasion dirty chalets but has always been dealt with quickly and professionally. My children always enjoy the amusements and characters although we dont understand why they dont come out altogther at times.....
We first stared booking our holidays through The Sun... but find it was cheaper to book whilst on site.I think we get what we pay for and would never dream of paying any more than we do for this accomodation...roughly 60-80 pound .Yes i do agree it is abit dated and need modernising but the entertainment is good and the children found it a safe and easy place to explore...
We are returning again for New Year and again in October and look forward to any positive change mainly to the accomodation.

But.... well done to all the bluecoats for there hard and dedicated work to the camp!!! keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!
