Pontins Brean Sands Reviews
" Depressing "
Submitted By: dissappointedI can't believe that people could be treated in such a way... i felt like such a second class citizen. Totally different check in time and area to other accomodation, although had requested an upgrade... not one attempt to change bedding during the time we were there. The beds were no less than park benches. After paying for accomodation i was amazed to see we had to pay for electric!! hot water... this also came from the electric card. No basic commodities - toilet roll!! replacement bedding!!
No matter what you pay for a holiday at Pontins >> nothing is cheap in the current climate (pay extra for mostly everything on site) this site is the worst i have been to.
We came home three days early.
Please don't go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Advice: Cheddar Gorge ism wonderful.

" Cheap holiday here we come ... "
Submitted By: sueandgaryWe spent our evenings mainly in the main clubhouse/fun factory and were suprised to find the price of drinks very reasonable. I would rcommend for the children that you purchase a cartoon character cup for £1.79 & then refils are 69p thereafter, this worked out the cheapest option. Food was also reasonable in the Queen Vic eating area & childrens meals were £1.75 each which we thought was a bargain. The entertainment in the clubhouse was entertaining for the kids & also had adult competitions & live bands. The pontins bluecoats were very talented & versatile.
The only downside apart from the weather was the male changing room of the swimming pool. Half the changing cubicles were below standard having torn curtains or none at all, there was plasters, fluff & manky bits in abundance let alone the seemingly stagnent water you had to walk through to get to the pool. My girlfriend on the other hand said how clean the ladies changing room was.
Overall the family had a good time. The holiday only cost £79 which was a special offer and this was well worth the money!
Advice: Nice beach nearby, advice is to take a wind-break as is very windy.

" A holiday to remember "
Submitted By: J BeeThe so called 'clean linen' was thrown on the bed-settee, which was so filthy, I had to use a sheet to cover it before we could sit down. The horror!'OMG' The bed sheets smelt vile, the pillows also smelt foul and were stained as were the duvets! The bed settee was so sunk, and you could feel the springs, most of which were broken! The carpet was so dirty I was scared to take my shoes off. The bathroom had no shower, broken window and a dirty mould ridden bath tub. So, I decided to go around the chalet with cleaning products and bleach! Who would beleive that we were on holiday we spent a good few useless hours trying to get rid of years old dirt and grease.
The kids weren’t happy with the state and tried to help! It was disgusting!, decided to complain but were only offered an upgrade at £38... Unfortunately, we just could not afford it. We were glad we did not pay the extra as there we also complaints about the better chalets.
The evening entertainment was just as bad. The Fun Factory was boring and the entertainment was a waste of time. The room made you pray for the smoking ban to be lifted as the room smelt damp and your shoes stuck to the carpet.
Whatever you do, do not heed the good reveiws you will regret it, like me and my family did. We would never visit this site again, even the cheap cost of £89.00 for a family of 4 was just too much to pay.

" surprising "
Submitted By: silverladyWe ate in the Queen Vic one night and found the food hot, and tasty. This may be because they weren't that busy, but we all enjoyed it. The drinks are a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is good & they do have good offers on IE pie & pint for £2.99 on footy nights.
Burnham is 4 miles down the road and a very pretty little town, tho not alot to do. Witherspoons on the corner is a lovely pub and reasonably priced with guest beers on special.
I recommend this site, especially if you are looiking for a fairly quiet time. No noise in the evening. However, i would imagine this will depend on the time of year you go.
Advice: Go to Wookey Hole and the Cheddar Gorge caves. For a bit of shooping, go into Weston super

" Surprisingly A Great Holiday "
Submitted By: Fluff123I agree that the checking in system and parking at 4pm was a bit chaotic, but the Blue Coats were entertaining and very helpful and the duration of check in took approximately 15 minutes.
The Chalet was spotless - okay it was old and could do with updating, but everything beds, crockery, cutlery/utensils and even the over was clean and functional. What do you expect from a cheap holiday (Sun £9.50 holiday). We even had a man clean the windows whilst we were there!
My friend who said the accommodation was awful had mentioned that the Vic Bar on the site served great food so as our accommodation was good we thought the food would be fantastic!
Well it was absolutely dreadful! We went at 5pm and ordered 3 children's meals (fish/chips/peas x 2 and penne pasta) and 2 adult's meals (fish/chips and veggie lasagne). The childrens meals were inedible - swimming in oil, the adults meals resembled something like 1970's school dinners - we had salad garnish which was a tired lettuce leaf and everything was overcooked.
The next day we took a chance and visited a pub 400 metres down the road opposite the site - called The Seagull In, very similar to Wetherspoons in ambience but the food was brilliant and great value for money.
We spent a day at Brean Leisure Park and paid £9.99 for the Tots Wrist Bands which enabled the kids to have unlimited goes on around 6 different rides - this was brilliant if the weather is dry (note that most rides there are height restrictions). That day had a snack in the bakery opposite Pontins and would recommend this as their baguettes were great value and very scrummy.
The evening entertainment at Pontins was repetitive, but the Kids loved it in the Lunars Bar (7 - 8:30 pm).
The Crocs Party on Thursday afternoon (£3.95 per child) was also really fun, Blue Coat entertainment, Magician, Cartoons and a hotdog, chips and drink. It occupied them for 2 1/2 hours so was really good value.
The Pool was a bit shabby and the water in the showers were cold - but the kids loved the water slide.
On the whole I would recommend Pontins Brean Sands and would go back again.

" Brean was not Clean "
Submitted By: kicking donkeyI would not moan about the 1hr check in time
I would not moan about the back killer pull out bed containing a mattress that literally threw you into each 0ther.
I would not moan about the draft from the door - which was rotted at the base
I would not moan about the long walk to the entertainment block
I would not moan about a chalet equipped with the very very basic equipment
I would not moan about the damp bedding
I would not moan about the parking mess-If you've been there you will know what I mean.
I would not moan about the damp smell or the snot smeared wall in the bedroom, or the the bright blue but brown stained toilet. Honestly we got over it. We cleaned the place up and put a pillow at the base of the door things were looking up.
Then we went for a meal in the Old Vic - the same standards were applied in the cafe such as smeared tables because a greasy cloth was used to wipe them.
Catering staff in filty uniforms.I thought the plastic menu was done in brail until I noticed the food particles stuck to it. I noticed thick grease down the side of the service counter and coffee had been spilt into the cutlery container and clean cutlery added - This was bad, the worst I have experiened; ever. I did moan because there was nothing else I could do about it. We nearly came home. However I have given it a 3 because the children loved it - the entertainment was child centred and the staff were kind and friendly; these are the only reasons why we stayed.
Would I go again - NO NEVER not if I was paid a monkey. Would the children, Yes they would; but they are a couple of monkeys.

" Brilliant Weekend Break "
Submitted By: jollyfruitOur apartment was clean and tidy. Our children used the two beds in the main bedroom and my wife and I used the fold down double bed in the lounge. This was a little uncomfortable but we knew we hadn't booked a 5*!. Apartment was initially cold and damp but soon warmed up when both electric heaters turned on. If you go there out of Summer season I would recommend bringing some extra blankets or duvets to keep warm during the night whilst saving electricity.
The entertainment was excellent and based very much towards the children on the site. If you collect Tesco Clubcard vouchers cash them up before you go and get great savings on visits to local attractions like Wookey Hole and Longleat.
We had a fantastic weekend and cant wait to book up again! Thank you Pontins.

Submitted By: joniseagullThe surrounding area was fabulous, but I wouldn't stay at Pontins again if you paid me. How anyone would eat here, seeing the standard of cleanliness and hygiene, I just cannot imagine.

Before we complained we went over the shop and bought cleaning products to wipe all around the chalet, we then went to reception and complained saying that it wasn't very clean and the TV remote didn't work they said that they would send a cleaner over and someone with a new remote by five. Five o'clock went and they were still no signs of the cleaners and no one had came with a new remote, half an hour later we decided we'd leave because we were still very unhappy we went to reception and asked for a refund which they gave back with no offer of upgrade or protest.
We found the whole Pontins holiday resort to be out of date, in need of refurbishment and no facilities for anyone over 14 years old ! Compared to Butlins in Minehead where we went two years ago, Pontins was a very poor indeed. We would never go there again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
