Pontins Brean Sands Reviews
" This place was unbelievable. I have... "
Submitted By: Mr K WhitakerI thought these places had been torn down decades ago and no longer existed, how wrong I was!!
The beds were uncovered when we arrived and I wouldn't have let my dog sleep on the mattresses. The bedding was screwed up on the settee, there was nowhere near enough room for five, and the entire place was horrible. We were panicking now because we were 250 miles from home, at 18.00 on a Bank Holiday Monday!
We went up the coast to the Unity site which was lovely, but cost a further £250, which was money well spent.
I am currently in correspondence with Pontins for a refund and compensation, but they haven't even the manners to respond to my letters and photographs.
The Sun should really remove this site from their promotion.

" After reading some of the reviews I... "
Submitted By: Miss L LoweWe stayed in a club chalet which is Pontins top of range; it was ok, small but clean, in nice surroundings. Sofa bed in lounge was extremely uncomfortable, sunk in the middle! We used the spare mattress to prop it up!
The facilities were good for children; my daughter had a great time, that was the main thing.
The food in the queen Vic restaurant was ok, but when it's busy they change the menu to a much smaller one, disappointing, they should be able to cope with a full restaurant and it’s not like their cooking from scratch! smaller menu sometimes stays out even when their not busy as well and it is limited.
Also no sign of any fresh veg on the menu, I find that quite important especially for the children even McDonalds has healthier options! Casey’s diner was nice, priced ok, for a takeaway. In the evenings the fun factory gets very busy, struggle to get a seat after 7!
Lots of people hold tables and chairs for each other and even with no smoking areas it is smokey didn't like it with my 4 month old twins.
On the whole the staff were friendly would do what they can to make you happy, great base for local attractions, we were out everyday! We even extended for an extra night.

" Absolutely disgusting. Ignore all... "
Submitted By: Mr A BeechingThe site should have been torn down years ago as it is old and tired. It is populated by the base human scum found in many towns and cities. I'm sure all the children had ASBO's. We only stayed for 1.5 hours and had to leave because we were so disgusted. Will never visit a Pontins again.

" 8/10 only because of the PGL team.... "
Submitted By: Ms D FellowsOtherwise holiday would have been totally boring, although we were out of season so that might make a difference.
Chalet ok just about, slightly dirty when we arrived, not much room for 5 people although we weren't planning on spending much time in it anyway.
Other than the brilliant PGL activities the only other thing for the kids was the pool which they enjoyed especially the giant inflatable crocodile. Pontins character shows too young for our 11-14 years olds and nightly Blue Coat shows too old for them. They spent their time in arcade which cost a fortune.
So although some of it a disappointment it was still a nice break, it was close to the beach but the PGL team and their activities made our holiday. Well done guys!

" Arrived early, there was a bouncy... "
Submitted By: Ms S BegleyThe accommodation was ok, the quilts were a bit shabby, but overall it was livable.
There was definitely lots to keep the kids entertained, as a single parent of two small children this was a joy. The staff were friendly, and good with the children.
The beach was lovely, although slightly cold in Sept, but never the less we had a great time.
Have booked again for this year, my tip is to start saving your 2p's and 10p's for the kids in the arcades, as i spent a fortune in them.

" Don't waste your money, the chalets... "
Submitted By: Mrs E McGrainThe cooker was broken. Grime was everywhere, the bedding was full of mildew and the beds were damp. On top of that you also had to pay for the electricity. Underage drinking & fighting was rife with no security in sight-the kids even walked on the roof of our chalet at night.
Entertainment - Bad sound system, distorted racket!
As for the food it was not edible, waited half an hour for a take-away and had to throw the whole lot away.
Pontins, you need to spend a weekend at Butlins.

" I took my 3 children here for out 1st... "
Submitted By: Miss M HayterWe were made to feel very welcome, kids had a amazing time and too see their faces happy was a real treat. Entertainment was great, my kids kept volunteering me to go up stage and take part on the games. I won belle of Pontins!! Whoohoo! The accommodation was clean, just very hot because of the weather. I couldn’t wait to book again this year.
Definitely worth going to, the beach is lovely and not far also. So if you’re a single mum or dad and want somewhere cheap and great for the kids, def give this a go.

" We visited Pontins Brean sands for... "
Submitted By: Mrs S MannThe apartment was a club and was clean and warm, and towels all provided and smelling fresh.
The complex is showing signs of age, and is definitely in need of a refurb!
We found all the staff great and the blue coats all happy and doing a good job.
The entertainment was good but the seating arrangements, well there never seemed enough to go around.
The queen Victoria was overcome by Pontins staff after 12pm and it's only a small place anyway, so it was rather shocking that they took seats which paying holidays makers could have used.(I appreciate they have to socialise but...not taking up space the customers needed, because the bar is to small for the volume of holiday makers)
Pontins have a serious problem with not catering for enough children on half term, when we chatted to reps they tell us they have booked in 2000 people for Feb. half term 600 being children.......and for activities there were 4 twice a day only taking 13 kids on each!! Definitely not enough.
The swimming pool arrangements were a disaster...same problem ....I can appreciate there was a large volume of people visiting but....they need to get a working system to equally let people use the pool. Pontins the wrist band system does not work!!! Maybe invest some money back into your complex and build another pool, tell you what use the profits you make from your well over priced beer swill and you could probably build 2 pools and buy another 1000 chairs for people to sit at night.
Pgl did the activities...absolutely fabulous!! What some very high motivated professional people...the activities were all well run by pgl.. (working for Pontins).. They are a credit to themselves!
Food well...that was something else....I’ll let you make up your own mind when or if you visit but I would highly recommend jays steak house on the main round...top food there!
Definitely Butlins again next year and would not return to Pontins brean sands even if I was paid!!

" Please ignore any positive reviews... "
Submitted By: Mr S McsweeneyCrocs fun palace is really a smoke filled bar, like a working mans club but with a bouncy castle to add the fun element. The facilities for kids are pretty much non existent and the chalets are a disgusting throw back to the 50's. They are cold, dirty and all the bedding provided was torn and damp.
If your idea of a good time is to leave your kids to their own devices while you smoke and drink in a bar, just giving them the occasional clip around the ear, or hurl a little abuse at them to keep them in line then Pontins is the place for you.
Honestly if your looking for a fun family time and you really care about your kids happiness, go to Butlins Minehead. Butlins have actually invested money in their resorts over the last 20 years. Pontins are obviously struggling in the market, and if they cannot improve on these standards they will surely become a relic of the past. I demanded a full refund and was not alone.
Avoid at all costs.
S. Mcsweeney.

" Pontins Brean Sands is the place to... "
Submitted By: Miss C JeremiahThere is fun in the day with the 3D people and you can do rock climbing, abseiling, tramp lining and lots more.
In the nights for the children is boogie with the blues and all of the children are on the dance floor and the bluecoats are on stage and the kids copy them to do the dances such as home alone, la bumba, super star and the cheeky song. it is great entertainment for the kids and adults. But before all that the Pontins gang come out after bingo and they are Captain Croc, Zena The Zebra, Action Pack Jack, Mega Mix Mick, Florence The Ostrich and Chuckles The Monkey.
The swimming pool is fab even though it is small they have a Jacuzzi, slide and at 12.00pm the lifeguards have fun time with the people in the pool by using an inflatable version of Captain Croc. The lifeguards are very fit they are Jay, Paul aka Slick they are the very fit ones but Gary is fit but not as fit as the others. They take time to talk and have fun with you whether they are on duty or not.
IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN OR NOT PONTINS IS THE PLACE TO GO THEY HAVE ALL ROUND FUN WHAT EVER THE AGE.

The old linen was thrown outside the chalet, the new ones were sprawled across the settee, which was so filthy, I had to put a sheet down so the kids could sit down, while i looked around! The horror! The bed sheets smelt mouldy, the pillows, which they expected my kids to lay their heads on smelt foul and were stained as were the duvets! The main bedrooms mattress was so sunk, and you could feel the springs, which were broken! The grease in the kitchen was sticky on your fingers when i reached to look in the cupboard! The dishes hadn’t been washed properly neither! So, I decided to go around the chalet with cleaning products and bleach! the windows had mildew and dirty finger prints, just filthy! While my husband put the sheets on the bed and pillows, we decided to call it a day, as this was meant to be a holiday not house keeping!

The kids weren’t happy with the state and tried to help! It was disgusting! By 6pm, we gave up and decided that we had wasted enough of the kids holiday and went to complain....we reached the desk, and was offered an upgrade at £38... We felt bad for the kids so we took it.(anything cleaner than that would’ve done! And paying the extra (which I now think was laughable! But at the time I would’ve paid alot more for the kids happiness) it was better than the other one. which was looking slightly better once I got the bleach out (better than the state we saw it in, anyway) however, I felt bad for those who put up with it!
I gave a rating of 3 for the evening entertainment in the fun factory, though it was repetitive! My kids enjoyed it! The other "kids club" adventures weren’t what they said neither! No character visits, it was like taking them to toddler groups! So, we wont be visiting there again!
A very disgusted mother of three.
" My holiday experience at Pontins... "
Submitted By: Miss E Tomlinson- Date of Holiday:Sep 2005

The chalets are always fine. Ok so they aren’t massive but you haven't booked the penthouse suite at the Marriot have you? Any problems that I have encountered with the chalet (such as the oven door sticking on this holiday) are easily sorted by a quick trip to reception were they will send someone over to fix said problem ASAP.
Don't spend too long in the chalet though because Brean offers so much to do. The activities offered by the leisure zone and plg are fantastic as are the staff that run them. They are pretty much 99% free during school holidays so there’s loads to keep kids happy all day. There are also activities for younger ones in croc's adventure land as well as the fun factory.
If you aren’t going with kids don't fear (no-one in our party was under 15) then don’t worry. The queen vic pub offers pub quizzes, games and competitions all through-out the day so you have plenty to do.
Evening entertainment at Brean is always good. Some shows may have you yawning but for the most part everything is fun and a good laugh. There are two main evening venues-the Fun Factory (gets v.busy, get there early if there’s a show you really want to see) and Lunars. The Queen Vic also offers more adult entertainment-this summer they had a Bavarian night which was fantastic. The Bluecoat shows are always top quality and shouldn't be missed.
The staff at Brean are fantastic. From the Bluecoats who really make the place and are so often underestimated or treated as babysitters to all the other staff leisure zone workers-life guards everyone-they all take them time to get to know people and ensure they have a great time.
Food on site is generally nice but there can be large queues which can be annoying. I personally tend to cook back at the chalet but if the idea of cooking on holiday doesn't appeal there are plenty of places to eat on site and a great selection of pubs other places to eat in the local area
If you need to get off-site for a while Brean and the local area offers loads to do. There’s a fun-park down the road which is good for an afternoon but could work out expensive if you have a large family. The best thing to do here is find out which rides you want to go on first-Each ride costs a certain amount of tokens. You just buy the amount of tokens you need which avoids over spending. Weston-super-mare and Burnham-on-sea are also easy to get to by bus or car and are great for a day out
I could actually go on forever about how good Pontin's brean sands is but I won't. All I can say is please don't be put off by poor reviews. Your holiday is always going to be what you make it but Pontin's is by far one of the best bases for a totally fantastic family holiday! I really would give it 100+ out of 10!!
