Pontins Prestatyn Sands Reviews
" Having had many a holiday with... "
Submitted By: Mrs B Watson
Having had many a holiday with Pontins at this camp I was extremely disappointed with my break this July. We had booked for 4nights self catering in a budget type apartment, which we've stayed in on numerous occasions, stipulating at the point of booking that I needed to be close to the parking facilities as I’m disabled. At no point was I told that budget apartments didn't meet my requirements so the booking was made and paid for in advance.
On arrival we found that we were in the centre of a block quite a distance from where the car was parked, fortunately though they had given me a ground floor apartment. Being physically disabled and also an asthmatic I found the distance that I needed to walk in order for me to access the apartment quite an ordeal, but one that I was prepared to endure for the sake of our children. Unfortunately that all changed on entering the apartment. I am well aware that I had booked budget which I know means basic but surely basic shouldn't mean filthy, and poorly equipped? There was a large iron burn on the carpet, the bed settee was absolutely filthy, the bathroom was in a terrible state with mould growing over the walls and a toilet which was positively brown.
We went to see the customer service people, who told us that that was the best they could offer us and that if we didn't like it then we could have a refund. When I pointed out that I'd stipulated at the point of booking that I was disabled and need to be close to where my car was parked I was told that this was not on offer within the facilities that I had booked, bear in my mind though that this was not our first visit to this camp and we've never had this problem before. When I informed them that I believed they were contravening the disabled persons act, where my accessibility was concerned, they soon found me an alternative apartment, only marginally better from a cleanliness point of you but nearer to where our car was parked.
Had it have not been for upsetting the children then we would've accepted a refund, but we wouldn't have been there at all if we didn't have children. In my opinion Pontins Prestatyn has steadily gone down bank since we had our first holiday there some 8yrs ago, not just the apartments but the whole camp has become dirty and neglected, I think that it's about time that the hierarchy took stock and did something about it, now before its too late.

" When we arrived in Prestatyn Sands,... "
Submitted By: Mr CAD Devlin
When we arrived in Prestatyn Sands, the first thing we did was not unpack, not go swimming, we had to clean up! The scruffy apartments were unacceptable.

So the start to the bad holiday was bad enough but then when I went out to hire a bike it was a £1 deposit the £16 to hire it! So for the whole of the week I mainly spent it in the swimming pool. An unacceptable holiday, WE should have been to go.
" If you are thinking of visiting north... "
Submitted By: Mr L Sykes
If you are thinking of visiting north Wales for a short break and intend on day trips to the surrounding areas, Pontins at prestatyn sands is in the perfect location. there is a beach within definite walking distance, and the sand was lovely and clean. Then you have rhyll its about a ten minute drive from camp, if you’ve never been or never heard of rhyll its a little like Blackpool, its great for teenagers and young adults(not so great for younger kids) then you have Llandudno, that’s about a 30 minute drive from Pontins and is like Scarborough only the beach is much nicer there are attractions to visit also on the way to Llandudno. I have two children under four, and thought Pontins would be great fun for them both, and it is for about an hour!! the club mascot “captain croc” comes on stage to entertain for a little while only and whilst we were there an Irish band played they were great but before they came on a rep asked all us parents to not let our kids on the dance floor while they played!! try telling a three year old that! the accommodation was basic even though we had upgraded to the middle package not much to do through the day, you can go swimming but the pool doesn’t open till eleven. When you arrive you get a book full of money off vouchers, but get there early cause every wants the buy one get one free breakfasts. overall Pontins was less than ok but the tourist attractions made up for that, just, if your not planning on having great days “in” with your kids go for it.

" I stay at Pontins every year but not... "
Submitted By: Miss H Smith
I stay at Pontins every year but not through choice. I play at the brass contest they hold every year. It''s just easier for everyone to stay together. If that was my only holiday destination I wouldn’t go. In Oct 2004 we turned up to a chalet that hadn’t been cleaned ( crazy string still on the ceiling and a badly cleaned pile of sick in the corner).

The carpet was disgusting the bathroom worse. The cost of food and quality in the restaurant very poor. Rust on the railings. It’s not a cheap place to stay and the conditions are not good value for money. Around brass bands the camp has a nick name. Just think of the war and you’ll get my meaning.
" Things To Do
Not bad, good... "
Things To Do
Not bad, good range of activities, but not very good quality. The staff varied from helpful and friendly to not so good.
Accommodation
Poor quality, very basic. Chalet was reasonably clean but not spotless by far. Everything was in poor state of repair, from beds and sheets, to plates and cups. Carpets and decor were terrible even by my standards (I travel economy often).
Restaurants
The food was almost always cold or overcooked and dried up. It was pricey too. It was cleaner and brighter than our chalet though. Staff were mostly foreign and not very cheerful.
Shops
Although pricey they had a reasonable range of goods, food for self caterers, magazines, toys. I have seen better though.
Staff in here were friendly and helpful.
Nightlife
This was surprisingly good. There were various different venues, each with good quality entertainment. There were notices up describing all the entertainment, but it was hard to choose where to go!
Beach
This was sandy and clean and only a short walk from the site. There were plenty of rock pools which we all enjoyed exploring.
Off-site
We walked down the beach to Prestatyn as there are only a few buses a day. It’s a long walk, but there’s a promenade. There are a couple of arcades, cafes and restaurants, and a swimming pool, but not much else. We ate in one of the restaurants and the food was lovely, first decent meal we’d had, but not cheap.
Customer Services
If you need to speak to someone to ask a question or complain, you have to wait for ages at the kiosk. They only have minimal staff available to deal with queries and they seem to be rushed off their feet and not very happy in their job.
Management
We spoke to a manager to complain at the end of our stay and he fobbed us off. He said the food was freshly cooked and good quality (we didn’t agree, and I’m a terrible cook!) He also said if we’d complained earlier that he’d have given us food vouchers, but it was too late, we were checking out. We didn’t complain earlier because we were only there for 3 days! So, not a very satisfactory experience.
