" After worrying about arriving later... "

After worrying about arriving later than expected, we called ahead as we were worried about not getting access to the entertainment. We were assured this would not be a problem, and then arrived two hours earlier than we had anticpated. Access Denied. We quoted name of CS manager who had assured us everything was OK even if we were a further 2 hours late and the bouncer took great joy in laughing in our faces.

With dismayed children we retreated to our Caravan that stank of canine, A begrudging cleaner came in the morning and hoovered and sprayed air freshener which lasted 2 minutes. The rest of our break was living with this stench (I am not exagerating).

Everything about the camp itself was horrible, albeit the kids still managed to have fun.

Outside of the camp is a totally different experience, the beach was nothing short of breathtaking and the surrounding dunes. The local villages has great shops and lovely pubs.

The camp itself was a nightmare - try it for yourselves, go in and have a look. There was no security and keys were left in a bowl on reception - grab a set and have a browse for yourself.

I would have given this dump a 0/10 if it wasn't for Prestatyn itself redeeming this anti-haven.

" Whilst this wasn't really habitable,... "

Whilst this wasn't really habitable, it wasn't as bad as I was led to believe. The skirting boards in our Chalet was filthy and the floor hadn't been swept in some time. The Linen was spotless however, and astonishingly, so were the mattresses.

The Staff outside the Reception area were very friendly, and made us feel at home. The staff behind the reception were nothing short of a disgrace, laughing at customer’s woes, and not going to any lengths to hide it. They must be allowed however, as the Manager often joined in.

Avoid the on-site shop like the plague, they know they have you trapped, and the minute you see a bottle of Pepsi at £2 you'll know what I mean. Prestatyn Town is only 5 minutes away - thank goodness.

Overall fun was had by all, and would go again. I know it was cheap so can't expect too much, but I don't think I should of had to clean the floors.

Avoid offers in leaflets given when checking in - 3 for 2's sort of thing. If you take them up - you just paid 50 times what the goods cost them, and fell into the marketing trap they want you to. Take everything you can with you, that you think you'll need, because dare you forget it, you will be firmly punished by their tariff regime.

" The 5 would be for the chalets. Very... "

The 5 would be for the chalets. Very basic, very dirty. The staff were lovely, all young and friendly. Loads to do for children, all free. The crazy golf was the best I have seen and free. The pool was dirty and no slides. The shows were good and the hoy bingo was fun, if they still do it. The beach wasn’t great, a lot of jellyfish. It’s a base, great to stay and sightsee Wales.

I would recommend booking Haven. Its 5 mins away from this site, much cleaner and better pool. If Pontins put some money into doing up their chalets and pool. They would give haven a run for their money.

" First time at Pontins. Was dreading... "

First time at Pontins. Was dreading it and on arrival wondered what we had come to. Rows and rows of chalets. Booked Club Class which was ok, but still basic. Dread to think what Budget was like. Clean and bedding spotless, but very small with horrid plastic dining chairs. PGL staff lovely to the kids. Queues to book activities long at times.

Food in Beachcomber diner nice but the eateries all close far too early including the chippy which closes at 7pm. The sofa bed was a nightmare to sleep on with it's springs poking through. Asked for another but none arrived.

Evening entertainment ran late persistently which lead me to think that it was a ploy to get you to spend more at the bar! Drink availability limited i.e no rose wine! Lunar bar smelled like a wet dog. Sticky grubby carpets galore!

Hire of bikes and Go-karts extortionate-£8 for 30 mins!! and my daughter injured herself on a faulty one. Had to report it twice before anything was done. However, the kids loved all the activities available and the PGL and Bluecoats did their best to ensure they had a good time. And if the kids are happy then so am I!

" We paid almost £400 for 3 nights... "

We paid almost £400 for 3 nights self catering in club accommodation expecting top of the range, instead I thought that I'd arrived on the Chatsworth estate set in shameless.

The accommodation was very basic and small, looked like a council estate, very dated. Food typical canteen style. Entertainment limited. Not much to do if your under 3 and over 6. Could do with a complete re-vamp, stuck in a time warp. Lacking Cinema, Bowling Alley, Funfair, but maybe I'm comparing to much with Butlins.

Could not have stayed longer than 3 nights as we were seriously lacking sleep due to noisy teenagers waking us up about 5 times in the night till 4 in the morning shouting and playing football, also bit boring doing the same thing every night i.e arcade, entertainment if you can get a seat. Soft play area. Very under staffed.

Would I Stay here again, definitely NO. I would rather camp out in my back garden. Good Points, Beach Close. Bad points, price, accommodation standards, lack of entertainment and food.

" I have just returned from a week at... "

I have just returned from a week at the site.

The accommodation was very clean and tidy. The staff were all very helpful. There was plenty to occupy yourselves with. We were a family of 4 ranging from 17 - 52. We had the 2 bed budget accommodation on the first floor.

The entertainment was brilliant especially Nikki and Matt, they did not want us to leave on our last day there.

We would definitely go back again.

Well done to all the staff.

" We booked a last minute Mon-Fri... "

We booked a last minute Mon-Fri holiday for 15 people and having never been to a Pontins site before were not sure what to expect. We booked budget accommodation which was very basic (no microwave, shower etc).

We arrived at the site at 10.30am but were not able to get our chalet keys until 4pm. At 4pm there was an enormous queue in reception for keys with lots of frustrated kids and adults. Our accommodation was very basic and the bathroom left a lot to be desired. I would not use the bath so had to go to the swimming baths to shower.

There was plenty of entertainment for the kids including an indoor play area with climbing frames, ballpond etc. and comfy sofas for parents to sit and watch. Swimming pool was OK with separate smaller pool for children.

Outside there was mini cars for 4-8 year olds but my 3 & 3/4 year old granddaughter was very upset and could not understand why she could not go on them. A range of bikes were available to hire but they were rather expensive.

A booklet provided with your welcome pack lists the weeks entertainment and you need to follow this to ensure the kids get the most from their holiday. The kids in our party enjoyed the Barney show and the animal character shows. Also plenty of chances for the kids to dance in the main entertainment rooms.

The food in the diner was OK. A bit pricey but you expect this on holiday. Other food was available in the evening from the various fast food outlets on site. The bar was well stocked but rather pricey. Our average round cost us £30. Had to wait to get served for a few minutes and if you don't get to the entertainment room early you will struggle to find seating for the night. If you get up to watch your kids on the dance floor chances are you will loose your seats when its busy.

The on-site shop is a bit pricey so if you have room to bring your own cereals etc. I would advise it. The shop only stocked new born sized nappies so we had to go off site to find a shop to buy these from. Separate gift shop stocks some nice stuff for the kids including character t-shirts at 2 for £2.99, if you use your coupons provided in welcome pack.

We have never done a Pontins holiday before but if you have kids with you it is well worth a visit. The weather was not too good but this doesn't matter as there is plenty of indoor entertainment to keep the kids happy. The Blue-coats were quite young but were great with the kids. They do a bit to much talking during the kids entertainment instead of letting the kids dance and sing etc. but they were very patient and smiling.

I don't know if we will ever go Pontins again but if we do we will definitely go for the higher grade accommodation.

" What can I say. I don't know whether... "

What can I say. I don't know whether I'm more amazed at the utter disgusting'ness (yup, I know it's not really a word) of the chalets/resort or the fact that some people are rating this at 9/10 out of 10. I dread to think where they've stayed before.

My 5 page complaint letter has just been sent by registered first class post and if I don't get a full refund I'll be taking it further; much further.

Words that I've read elsewhere on this review site that I can relate to are: filthy / dirty / urine smell / mould / out-dated to name but a few.

We've been on holidays with Haven, British Holidays and so would recommend anyone reading this to go there or stay at home.

WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED CA$H HERE.........

" We stayed at the park on July 2nd for... "

We stayed at the park on July 2nd for a four night stay. This is the first time we have ever booked, travelled, stayed at any Pontins park.

Customer service when booking was good, the park was good too, the chalets we stayed in was the CLASSIC. It was tidy but it wasn't clean; there was dust on top of the skirting boards; urine splashes on the door frame inside the bathroom door; windows filthy dirty inside and outside and to us it must have been there for months. The bathroom needs re-tiling, the kitchen needs updating like the fridge where the door wouldn't shut properly. The difference between a Budget and a Classic is the windows - you pay an extra £20 for the double glazing.

Dont know much about the club but they looked pretty good, the food was too expensive, drinks pretty much the same as you get in your local, depends what you drink, electricity was via a meter and that wasn`t expensive, a £1 would last you the entire four days. The staff were friendly.

We arrived on the Monday, didn't do much because of the long trip. Tuesday we tried to dine at the Queen Victoria, that's a pub by the way, and that's the only place where you didn't get fast food so we got there at 7.45pm but was told we were too late, THEY DO STOP SERVING AT 8.30PM, we never argued, we ate out of the park.

Wednesday we arrived at the Queen Victoria again at 7.30pm, yet again, we were told we were too late, geez we thought, what kind of service is this? Our last night came, this time we arrived at 7.00pm, we ordered and yes we finally got to eat at the park, the food was good but the service was pathetic. We paid for some garlic bread, £1.50 for 2 slices, what a complete rip off and the person who did take our order said sorry for the last couple of nights. Well its the managements fault not his.

Pontins is a family holiday and whatever time you order, that should fit into their times as well. They are serving us! When we book with a company, we trust them that our holiday will be as pleasant as the moment we arrive to the moment we depart. The trouble is that , head office cannot see what goes on within that holiday until people like you/me complain.

Back to the food now, our last night, they stopped serving at 9.00pm, why is that? Most people were leaving the next morning. Is that why we got served because we were leaving. Most nights we would eat outside of the park, oh well Pontins loss, we weren't the first to complain too. It's as if they were telling us what time to eat, a family holiday should be with your family. If you eat at 8.30 - 9.00pm they should serve us. Its our holiday not there's, we pay for their wages. If Fred Pontin could see what his parks have turned out to be now he wouldn't be very happy. The parks have gone down because they lack dedication. People only go abroad because of the weather and because they are cheap, overall for North Wales, beautiful place, nice locations, plenty to do.

I hope THE HEAD OFFICE reads all of this because they need to take note on what's going on at their parks..

" This trip was an offer received from... "

This trip was an offer received from Pontins, it was very good value for money (we stayed in club). We could not upgrade to half board as we were told they did not do this but apparently they can.

The activities are for the older child 8 and over, my 10 yr old loved it, the 7 yr old was a bit disappointed as she could not do the exciting things (zip wire, abseiling, trapeze etc)but enjoyed the pool and Capt. crocs, the 1 yr old just loved the Barney show.

The chalet was clean but the bed/settee smelt of stale smoke; the bed linen, towels, fridge, cooker etc were all clean. The onsite shop was very good and stocked all the things needed for a short stay.

We would have no hesitation in booking again for next year.

Staff was friendly and very helpful (we lost a camera and it was located and returned to us).

When you book remember it is a high turnover business and sometimes mistakes are made. Again we had no problems and will go again.

" Well, just got back from Prestatyn... "

Well, just got back from Prestatyn Sand Pontins, wasn’t looking forward to it, as I'd read some of the comments on here before I went.

When we got there it looked very dated and needed doing up. Got to our apartment which was club, as we upgraded, even though this was one of the better ones to stop in, still basic.

Was pleasantly surprised, clean and tidy, nothing dirty bout the room at all.

Entertainment great, plenty of activities for the kids, all in all we enjoyed. I can’t comment on budget/classic apartments.

Staff friendly, didn’t have no probs to report. The bed settees not the best, but we put the spare duvet on the mattress and slept on that, then it was fine. Not that bad at all.

" We (4 Adults, 2 Couples) shared a 2... "

We (4 Adults, 2 Couples) shared a 2 bedroom apartment which we found to be very clean and not smelly in the slightest, contrary to many of the reviews we read here before embarking on our Fri. to Mon weekend break.

After reading some of the reviews we went expecting a nightmare to unfold but we couldn't have been more wrong if we had tried.

Prestatyn Sands on arrival looked clean and recently had undergone extensive repainting, first sights were encouraging and the sun was shining which helped.

The staff were courteous to me and very helpful, we asked for extra pillows and got them without any problem, there was even a complimentary £1 electric card in the welcome pack and when we got into our apartment we found £1.05 already on the electric meter (so it appears that staff resetting the electric to £0 is not the case).

We only had a couple of things that let the weekend down and they were that the bar prices were a bit high (but we should have expected that) and the entertainment laid on for the adults later in the evening was a bit poor.

Other than that the site/weekend was brilliant, there’s lots to see in North Wales, book a holiday at Prestatyn sands and enjoy yourselves as we did.

I would have given 10/10 if the entertainment was upto scratch.

" My parents and myself and 2 boys aged... "

My parents and myself and 2 boys aged 5 & 2 stayed in the Club style Chalet. Which was very clean and I really can't fault.

The entertainment for the children was excellent! The only fault I would give was the 2 older ladies that man the indoor Adventure Land didn't seem to care in the slightest when older boisterous kids invaded the toddler play area. There could have been a serious accident.

" This was a very cheap holiday, but... "

This was a very cheap holiday, but even so it could have been better.

When we pulled up we just wanted to turn round and leave.

But we got to our chalet the carpet was grubby with a big iron burn right in the middle, but the rest of it was clean enough.

The park was ok but for us to do anything on the park we had to pay allot extra, so didn’t bother.

The beach up the road was in walking distance and lovely, sandy and clean.

The staff were lovely and were doing there best.

We didn’t like the fact that the park was open for day trippers so was heaving at times (we felt it would have been nice to have out of bounds areas for day trippers to give residents some privacy but they could in fact come right to our door.

We visited many towns while we were there and meet family but we wont be going back.

"  My family and I have been visiting... "

My family and I have been visiting Pontins for as many years as I can remember ( I’m 23 by the way ) and I still love the place, I will continue to come here for many years and bring my children and their children etc!

The only reason I haven’t given them 10/10 on this occasion is because the chalet wasn’t the cleanest it could have been, there was a massive spider web in the triple room (uurrgg) there wasn’t enough chairs (but did get another 3 dropped off when said) no glasses and had to wash knives and forks before we dared eat off them.

The entertainment at night could do with being a bit earlier and not have to go between the two bars to get all the children’s entertainment, as once you had a table you had to keep it or you would have to stand up (with 4 kids that not a easy task).

Overall Pontins is a great place to come for the kids, there is plenty to do, go on let your hair down and go Pontins all the way.
