We arrived Friday night and went to our budget room (from the sun) and it was disgusting. First all we could smell was paint , it looked like the walls had had a fresh coat of paint however so had the carpet the worksurfaces because there was paint everywhere. We looked for our beds and found two single beds and one sofa bed that pulled out into a double. OMG this was so uncomfortable the bed dipped at our head and feet and our back/hip were pushed up by a very hard board. Not that this mattered because we were awake most of the night by the noise of people screaming and shouting to each other across the park (it sounded like they were in our room). The carpet had BIG stains on it and a huge iron burn. The sofa bed had a big stain on its matress too , i dread to think what it was. The whole place was dirty and disgusting. We stayed that 1 night and got up in the morning with headaches from the smell of the paint so we went into southport and had a lovely day however after returning to our room for an hour we had headaches again and could taste the smell from the paint. We really did not want to stay in that bed agin either so we came home. I know we booked through the sun but i thought these were cheap getaways not filth. We had paid for 3 passes to the club £20 and £20 in electricity that said we had only used 20p. I am now writing to pontins to request a refund as on the Friday night we went into the club for 20 minutes to find young drunken kids and terrible women on stage screaching out songs. I would never ever go back to pontins ever ever ever even if it wa free! We only stayed one night and that was too much.

I cannot begin to tell you how disgusting and unhabital this place is. We went this weekend and only managed 2hrs, that was spent arguing for our money back!
The 2 rooms which we saw were full of mould, dirt under beds, windows were stuck, poo in the toilet and generally a complete mess. We did eventually get our money back and even got congratulated by the reception staff as we were told 'they never give refunds to anyone'. We have 3 small children and i wouldnt even let my dogs stay here, let alone them! Apparantly they are 'upgrading' these chalets. The only signs we saw of this was a bit of painting on the balcony. This really is the worse place i have ever been to, however all was not lost as the Southport Premier Inn down the road was fantastic!!

we arrived at pontins southport at around 5oclock booked in at reception and made our way to our apartment, from the outside the blocks of apartments are bad but nothing compared to what we were met with inside!
The room was awful it was filthy and looked like it had never been cleaned it smelt awful but the worse part was the carpet which was ripped worn away everywhere and was dirtier than anything I've ever seen
We went to complain and was moved to another apartment which was no better it smelt so bad of damp the walls in the bedroom was black with damp and the beds were wet from it so we again went back to complain we were told this would be the last time we were moved by this time it was 7.30 and my 2 children were hungry and tired so we took the next apartment which was better but all the holiday we felt dirty from staying there and spent as little time as possible there.
As for the 70 free activities where were they cause we spent a fortune as there were little for free.
I advise no1 to go here as all we wanted to do was go home our holiday was ruined!.

We arrived for a 3 night stay on 25th February 2011. As the previous reviewer said, we were met by a cheery Security Guard & check-in was swift & pleasant.
When we eventually loccated our apartment (Budget), we were greeted by a rotting door & window frame covered in old paint that had flaked so badly it looked like someone had actually tried to remove it. The outside of the windows were also so caked in dirt we could barely see inside. The interior of the apartment was at least clean, however, both the kitchen & bathroom windows were broken in such a way that they could be neither closed nor opened and were, therefore, constantly "ajar" - not ideal in February. The bedroom contained two single beds which, whilst not particularly comfortable, were passable for a short stay. The sofa bed however was a different story. Imagine, if you will, a metal frame with a piece of canvas suspended in the centre - the canvas being held on with metal springs. Now imagine if ALL of the centre springs are missing. What happens? Yes, you get into "bed" and your bottom is virtually on the floor whilst your head and feet are about 2 feet higher. After 1 incredibly uncomfortable night we spent the following 2 sleeping on the mattress (which is made of plastic & approximately 2ins thick by the way) on the floor.
The "show" was terrible. Pontins "childrens" characters seem to be a violent bully called Jungle Sam (no exaggeration - he stole a toddler's toy, making her scream & then threatened other children with chairs!)and a zebra dressed as a prostitute. Nice.
The "restaurant" had a lovely choice of menu - either jacket potato with tuna or lasagne or soup. Everything else was sold out.
The entire place was crowded with what I can only describe as lager drinking chavs (and I'm no snob). By lager drinking I mean unable to move without a can of lager in hand. Some of whom were so aggressive & confrontational that, quite frankly, I didn't feel safe around them.
The swimming pool was "closed for maintenance" on the Monday, even though we had been assured the day before it would be open as normal, so the children didn't even get to go swimming.
All in all, a complete waste of time & money.

We often go to pontins, both southport and prestatyn.
Southport is great value for money, excellent entertainment and all the blue coats are lovely, really get involved with the kids.

Got there and had paid for an upgrade from basic. The place was filthy. You couldn't even see out of the windows and so we had to go to reception to get someone to clean the filth so we could actually see through the windows. The young lad working there argued that it was the awful weather there, yeah right! The so called self catering was dire, pure filth, even if you did want to cook there, you couldn't as there was not enough dishes or anything. The beds were dire, broken and matresses looked like they needed dumping. The bathroom floors, in fact all the floors was so filthy, I wiped a bit of tissue along it, and up came blackness on the tissue with hairs, it was disgusting. I went to the manager and we got an upgrade for club which was better. The entertainment was appalling, the seats in the club house were like school plastic chairs, very uncomfortable. I wouldn't go back if you paid me to stay there. Curtains mildew, the place is disgusting, DO NOT STAY HERE, don't waste your money......

Read reviews and was a bit apprehensive about going but glad we did. I agree it looks a bit of a dump when you arrive and everywhere could do with an overhaul, but the chalet was clean and fresh and although beds were a bit on the old side, the bed linen provided was clean so didnt find this a problem. Surprised to find £15 worth of electric cards supplied with keys, as I assumed from brochure that we had to pay extra for this. This lasted for the 5 days we were there and as it was October, got really chilly so heating was on constantly. Great for kids when weather not so good, but not so good for over 50's. Could do with something like snooker or darts (which we thought was there), but they had changed to table tennis (not so good for the less agile like us). Beach only 2 or 3 minutes walk and was excellent. Unfortunately in October very cold and breezy but will be nice in summer. Lots of places to visit and will definitely go again in the warmer months. I must say its not bad for a £9.50 holiday. Where else would you get 4 night accommodation for £9.50
BUT BE WARNED IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A 5 STAR HOLIDAY DON'T GO
- Advice: Don't go if you have high expectations - we are already thinking about going again next summer

We went in the October half term on a sun holiday, worrying what we might find after reading all the bad reviews here, but was pleasantly surprised that it was much better than expected, we went with two 12 yr olds, checked in at four, which was a bit manic! Room was clean although basic, but for the money was good, floor was only downside, could of been better, Staff was very helpful, and pleasant, food was cheap and good, kids loved it! We went out every day so only had the evening activities which the kids loved! Would go back again with no worries!
- Advice: would go again definitely!

i booked a sun holiday and as usual didnt get the park i was after the only options left for the dates i had was pontins prestatyn or southport so we chose southport and the only offer left was half board ....... arrived at the site at 2 oclock it looked more like the hi de hi holiday park i went to reception and was given my keys for the chalet and when i got there the door was wide open so took a look inside and there was glass smashed all over the floor empty glasses amd bottles all over the place cigarette burns and my shoes were sticking to the carpet front door to the chalet broken so on seeeing this went back to the reception and was told it would be cleaned and repaired in the next hour so went back after an hour and there was no change so i was given another chalet and that was just as bad with sick in the toilet and in the sink not been cleaned sheets full of dirt so went to reception and was given a 3rd chalet which was supposed to have been refurbished and when i got inside this had not been cleaned neither and there was a strong smell of paint and the two windows to the front were dripping with water so there was some kind of damp problem the time was now 19-15 i went to reception and they said go and have a free meal on us i had already paid for my meals so never got the free meal which was served in the smallest area the tables had not been cleaned and there was crockery left on the tables so we had limited space and when we did get to the food the chicken hadnt been cooked properly and was still raw i went to reception who tried to get me to stay one night but i had had enough and was given a full refund in cash and eventually left the camp site at 21-00 on my experience i wouldnt recommend this place to anyone
