My husband, 15mth son and I went with throws, cleaning products, linen and saucepan in hand after reading the reviews. It was what it was, budget. The apartment was clean, but carpet was disgusting. We covered the entire floor with throws and their linen. The beds were so uncomfortable, although their was a new sofa bed, which was comfy but no good if you are over 6 ft (hubby is 6'4!)the blue coats were ace, and activities geared up for younger kids. The pool was clean, the small pool had a non slip mat running the entire floor of the pool, which I liked. It is like stepping back in time, They are refurbing the rooms with new sofas, beds, and blackout curtains(and as I have a little one these are needed! we were up 5.45am every mornng).
If you are prepared for an hour wait to collect your keys, somewhere to entertain the kids before yourselves, go - but get a cheap deal! and don't upgrade, they are all the same!!
We enjoyed our holiday but we only slept there and was out at the crack of dawn!!
If you go, hope you get a room with laminate flooring, those are the rooms that have been refurbed!!

paid nearly 400 pound for 5 days 4 nights what a dump the appartment was damp and smelly we were on the bottom floor apartment above every time the used the shower leaked into my bathroom. the entertainment was very good a part from a xmas show. The amenties around the camp were crupy and sticky in the fun factory the tables were sticky all the time.
I took my kids swimming once and it was disgusting they cahnging rooms were full of peoples hair not a dry place to get changed and the pool its self was very clean one of my kids were sick that night and i swear it was the pool. Thew best thing was the climbing wall has been taken over by a new company and that was great value for money

  • Advice: i suggest money is spent on the swimming pool and the accomadation and now that a new company has taken over they take advice from familys that use it. We go to breean sands every xmas and newyear the people who run southport should go and see there

I know this was a cheap sun holiday but I did expect it to be clean, the carpet was very dirty we had to wash the cups and plates before we could use them, there was a pool of cooking oil in a drawer that had leaked out onto the floor. Entertainment was ok for young children but we took our three teenage grandchildren and there wasn't anything there for them, also lack of information on facilities. The food wasn't worth eating and The sofa bed was so uncomfortable we hardly got any sleep so cut our stay short. We were all very dissapointed and will go back to HAVENS or BUTLINS as we have never had a bad experience with them.

i have just come back from southport pontins, my 2 year loved it. . chalets are basic, and carpets do look a little dirty or worn but thats what id expect after hundreds of people walkin over them... i went with real dread in my mind and a box full of cleaning products after reading all the comments on here. . but i found it to be ok. my son loved it and that was the main thing for me, the blue coats were fantastic with both adults and kids. i went with the star deal so got my weekend really cheap, i would defo go again but not sure if id pay full price... i did see a lot of refurbing goin on whilst i was there, sofas being changed etc.....

We arrived on a saturday morning - 7th May 2001 on one of The Sun's cheap break holidays.
On arrival we were given the keys to our 'apartment'. Opened the door, took one look round and went back to reception. We were given a different 'apartment' which was in a marginally better state of repair but the furniture and carpets were FILTHY. As we didn't fancy a return journey to Surrey via Manchester(to collect our dog) that day we stayed overnight but kept our shoes on at all times and put the Pontins duvets over the disgusting settees bfore we sat on them.
I would like to state that the standard of cleaning by the cleaners of the kitchen/bathroom areas was fine - it was the cleanliness of the carpet and the settees that was so poor and the general air of decrepitude of a lot of these 'apartments'. The family next door to us left early too.
I know we only paid for a Sun holiday but previous ones at other resorts have been really nice. The Sun should remove Pontins from inclusion in it's holiday promotions and do us all a favour.

Another Fab Holiday at Pontins Southport

I'm a single parent family with 3 children aged 12, 10 and 6 and we've just returned from our third holiday at Pontins Southport, in fact we've had 2 holidays there in the space of a month!
Honestly I read some reviews on here and think people can't be talking about the same place as I am as we've never had a bad holiday there, nor have we ever had a filthy, disgusting apartment.
Check in has always been straight forward, sometimes a little busy but thats to be expected of a holiday park. Budget accomodation is basic but as far as I'm concerned its just somewhere to eat and sleep, I can only speak for myself but personally we go on holiday to enjoy the facilities and have fun we don't go on holiday to sit in the apartment all day spending hours inspecting carpets until we find a tiny stain just so we can make a complaint. And besides every apartment we've stayed in at Pontins has always been clean and comfortable.
The Bluecoats are fantastic, they are always happy and cheerful and put so much energy into their job and work so hard performing their fantastic shows on stage.
The swimming pool is a good size with a seperate pool for younger children, and the Water Walkerz are free unlike some other holiday parks which charge for using them.
My only complaint is that they have changed the age limit for children using the indoor play area 'Captain Crocs Adventure Land' from 8 years to 12 years, it was absolutely chaotic in there with older children running riot and not considering the safety of younger children playing and thats where Pontins loses points on this review, it was much better as an under 8's play area.
All in all it was another fantastic holiday and we will definately be returning in the summer for holiday number 4 at Pontins.

After looking at pontins holiday sites on-line we choose southport .... after traveling from lincolnshire... collected our keys and headed to our appointed chalet .omg you would`nt let your worst enemy sleep there ...curtains hanging off the rails sofa bed that they must of got of a tip..floor was dirty ..hard back plastic chairs ..generaly the place was worse than a pig-sty .. we went to reception to complain and the nice lady there agreed that the whole site was a tip and gave us a refund ..we managed to to book a caravan at HAVEN PRESTATNY.NORTH WALES had a brilliant time there .. pontins close it down and stop conning people .

we went to pontins southport on a sun holiday with our 2 children, it was no where near as bad as what people have made out on they're reviews. Yes it was very basic but it was spotless, they are in the process of referbishing them we had brand new beds and all of the beddin was spotlessly clean. The pool is a good size and they have a small pool for really young children and babies, the entertainment was fantastic for the children and they loved it, everything is close by and there are lots of things to do around southport.
to be honest when i read the reviews i was dreading going but i was very happy with it, i can understand people moaning if they have paid lots of money to go but fo a weeks holiday for 4 people only costin 60 pound u cant really moan at the end of the day it is somewhere to sleep
hope this is helpful

I went to Southport Pontins with my mum and 6 year old son. I knew it was going to be basic, but I didn't expect it to be so dirty! We couldn't believe our eyes. We spent 2 hours cleaning before we unpacked. We had to stay as we were meeting up with family near Southport later in the week. It took an hour to check in and then it took me 30 minutes to queue to complain with many people checking out as soon as they'd checked in. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! EVEN ONE OF THE MANAGERS SAID "IT'S A POOR RESORT AND IN FACT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN".

we payed double that we would normally pay when we go on holiday we thought we would splash out and enjoy our holiday and not cook go half board because thats what holidays are all about putting your feet up and enjoying it when we arrived on the 18th april 2011 there were no go-karts on the track and no shed that they were stored in the swimming pool said shut till 3pm the climbing wall wasnt been used when i looked at the apartments from a distance some looked better than others so we were hoping we were given the nicer ones the other ones the thing that put us off were the half hanging up curtains but why we waited we went to the beach and used arcade machines we finally queued for ages finally got key omg!i was given a piece of paper with our meals on we were having so for tea example we were having pasta or a bit of a dinner we were under the impression it was a buffet my kids want pizza burger chips etc breakfast was suppossed to be a buffet i can imagine it would of been cereal n toast and the apartment the carpet hadnt got a clean patch to be seen the carpet was ripped and had dried bubbly on it that had gone black the chairs were hard back school chairs the sofa bed omg! minging or what the wardrobe had no doors on them i didnt look at the kitchen area as we wasnt going to use it as we were half board we were going to use the bakery etc for our dinner as it showed on the internet but as we learned when we got there when we looked around before we got our key the bakery wasnt in use! anyway so we got back in the queue because we and our teenage kids wasnt impressed i told them we wasnt staying in that room would you she said no! she gave us another room to look at dont get me wrong nice lady the only difference was the carpet had been replaced with tyles and it had had a fresh lick of paint we still had hard back chairs and was expected to sleep on a minging sofa bed the curtain rail was been held up by a elastic band! there was ball marks all over the windows because there were no entertainment there people would play football on the grass situated within the apartments because you have 3blocks in a triangle with all the doors within this triangle anyway we still wasnt happy so got bk in the queue for the third time we had just passed the swimming pool at this time it was about 4:30pm and people were still waiting outside the swimming baths with there towel round them! why we were waiting to be seen people start talking 1 woman who had kids said she had found estacy tablets on the floor in her apartment! but believe me we werent the only ones complaining we heard they were giving people a refund as they had no other room available to offer people by this time i was in agony with my back and legs as i suffer with my back if i travel long distances and am on my feet to long and do to much basically by the time we were given our money it was 5pm time we should of been having our tea there so we made our way home and had to get a mcdonalds on the way by the time we got home it was bout 8pm we were exhausted especially my partner who had to do all that driving so we all went to bed we were all so upset all the time and effert with the packing all the excitement to be let down! without a holiday that my partner had booked time off work for!i also felt sorry for the people who had travelled by train if they didnt like there apartment like us it would be more difficult to get back as we had a car we could just jump in

pontins southport never again

Apr 2011, buster

the budget chalet was filthy the carpet had a huge un-specified stain plus a iron burn mark when we unfolded the bed settee it was covered in dust there was very little to amuse our two grandchildren on site and it was only the close proximity of southport that made the 4 day break bearable please bear in mind we dont normally moan about things i have been some dreadful places and just got on with it but at pontins there seemed a terrible sense of neglect and lack of investment only plus was the staff were friendly and polite
