I have just returned from a weekend break at the above:
Loads of entertainment for families.
Pool very univiting, Cafe was poor and better to go outside or eat at the burger bar by the Queen Vic.
Reception was dreadful waited a min of 23 minutes to ask a question as there was not much information provided.
The only thing that made my stay enjoyable was my family and just when you think it could not get worse, i queded again to hand my key in to check out at 9.00 to beat the rush (lol) to be told i could not cash in my electric coupons as i had booked with the sun holidays, even though i paid direct to Pontins for bed linen, entertainment passes and electric. I had to buy £10.00 worth used £4.00.
I will never go back to a Pointins again.

You only get what you pay for. Very dated, could do with knocking down and starting again to bring it back up to standard. It was like something out of Prisoner Cell Block H. The apartment was not easy to find. The entertainment was the same. Very poor bar service with only 2 bar staff on most of the time, and they were not capable of serving people in order. The beer on tap was not what it said it was and the drinks they served was very limited. We paid for an entertainment pass which we did not need as you could just go where you wanted, so that was a waste of money. We nearly stayed elsewhere because of the noise at night. We have never stayed anywhere as noisy as this, and at 4am in the morning of listening to this for 3 nights it really was not funny, no-one obviously took any notice of the notices or welcome packs regarding noise and consideration. Would we recommend or go back - No definitely not. Only good thing about Camber is the beach. There is nothing else their. Go to Rye for good restaurants and a good day out. The Thai restaurant and Fish restaurant are superb.

Firstly I'm glad I read the reviews before I went as then the shabbiness of the place wasn't such a shock!I have to say the chalets were quite grubby actually the floor covering was the worst excuse for a carpet I've ever seen - I'd rather walk barefoot outside!then again I'd have to keep an eye out for broken glass on the "landscaped lawn areas."despite the general air or should I say stink of uncleanliness in the chalet one thing that was white and pristine was the bedding which was a relief!that was one less thing to worry about - mind you it wasn't very easy to get a good nights sleep with the loud music and partying going on nearly all night!and yes I consider 4am nearly all night.
On the plus side, the staff were all friendly and were obviously working hard to keep everyone as happy as they could -the canteen -oops restaurant!- was ok (although we all travelled home with food poisoning after only eating there!?)the camp is a stones throw from what must be one of the nicest sandy beaches in England, so as a base for exploring some lovely surrounding countryside suppose it's ok .that's as long as you don't mind roughing it! The kids seemed to enjoy it-there were a few play areas and a friendly crocodile wandering around although where all the wonderful leisure activities were is anyone's guess?all in all this was my first visit to a British holiday camp and I'm glad it was only a couple of nights but it left me wondering -do people actually go there for a holiday and please tell me they're not all like this one??

  • Advice: Ok as a base to explore the countryside and lovely beach .

We had read all the recent reviews surrounding Pontins at Camber Sands and we were not really looking forward to it. Having stayed at Haven at Hastings in October 2010 and had the worst experience ever we were not expecting anything better to be honest. BUT!! we were pleasantly surprised to find a totally different experience here. We were greeted by friendly staff and the whole complex was very busy. YES the accommodation is basic and dated, which is what we expected but it was clean and we had a proper bathroom with hot water. We have two children aged 2 and 8 and they enjoyed the numerous parks dotted around the complex and the four little slides that go into the shallow end of the pool. The evening entertainment was geared up for the kids but the adults also had their time too. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and will definately will be going back even though we are only 30 minutes down the road. Its not the Ritz but we knew that but as long as there is hot water, heating and a friendly atmosphere we are happy. It you want the RITZ pay a fortune and go to Butlins!!!

  • Advice: take lots of your own food to keep costs down and visit the local pub up the road, they do great roasts!

Arrived at Pontins 17:30 , left to come home by 19:30
The accommodation is so filthy i would not let my cat stay there.
There is mould on the walls, ceiling, windows. There was all crumbs on the cooker, chewing gum all over the carpet, and even a glass with mould living in it just left lying around. Clearly the place had not been cleaned, and how if it had been cleaned, could the cleaner miss the mouldy glass. Did i mention the very bad smell of urine everywhere.
The classic accommodation does not have net curtains, so unless you have the curtains drawn at all times, everyone can see in.
We went to complain at reception, and was given another classic apartment, went into this one and turned around and left. Again mould everywhere and hairs all over the cooker.
Again went and complained and manager advised we could have our money back however as we paid for this Sun holiday by cheque, he could not refund there and then, we have to write to customer services. If we had paid by card, then he could have refunded us there and then.
My wife is 7 months pregnant, this was meant to be our last weekend to spend together before our little one arrived. Thanks Pontins, you have made myself and my wife very unhappy, not to mention the 2.5 hour drive each way after we left, which for a 7 month pregnant women to do is, quite frankly not right in any way.
My advice, stay clear of Pontins Camber Sands, no matter how cheap the holiday price is. You will be very disappointed.

Absolutely Revolting

Myself and my friend have recently returned from a Sun holiday at Camber Sands. It was absolutely disgusting, the chalets were badly in need of repair, there was condensation all over the windows. The kitchen was filthy, we had to wash all of the utensils, the cups were so badly stained we had to bleach them. The absolute worse thing was the shower, we had to remove the shower head as it had black fungus growing on it, we decided in the end not to use it. The swimming pool nearby had a motor that was making a disgusting noise which I reported but nothing was done about it for the whole of the five days were were there, the final night I had to shut the window because there was a horrific smell coming from the motor which gave me a headache. The day before we came home they decided to exercise some sort of pest/bird control whereby they bought in some birds of prey which were tied up in the sun all day while the owners then on the roof of the chalet. As you can imagine the gulls and smaller birds were going beserk. At the end of the exercise they let each bird of prey off in turn which again cause a chaos in the sky, I can appreciate that gulls etc need to be kept under control, but surely not while guests were sunning and swimming. I did make a complaint about both the bird control and the swimming pool, but I was ignored on both things. Never again will I enter those gates.

PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS
Me and my partner went to Pontins through the sun deal.
when i read the reviews, i was quite worried about the state of the apartment we were going to be given but we took the risk anyway.
Firstly the apartments weren't completely disgusting but there was alot of mould/rust around the shower and windows, there was also a random hole in the ceiling above the door.
All this aside, we decided to look for some activities to do only to find out that everything was pretty much deserted, all the activities we saw advertised on the website were clearly not going on at pontins and the rock climbing place still had scaffolding that looked like it had been left for ages. So with nothing to do we decided to do the only thing that seemed to be going on and that was the swimming pool. Not too bad but was surprised to find lots of floating stuff in the water ( i think it was foam from the swimming floats) which any child could have easily choked on.
Apart from the blue coats, most of the staff and life guards were rude and clearly needed a lesson in customer service.
All in all, this holiday was bearable but only for the reason that we paid £40 for it and the beach was decent. If i had to pay almost £300 for this holiday which is what it would have cost if not going through the sun, then i would have been even more outraged.

  • Advice: bring lots to do, earplugs, cleaning products and decent food

I booked to go to Pontins last September with my 1 year old and my partner, I paid £100 for 4 days staying in budget. On first impressions I thought my god what have I let myself in for! just the other holidaymakers looked rough as hell and all spoke with an Essex accent!
Firstly We had to que up and buy electricity cards before queuing up yet again to get our keys. Our chalet was disgusting, carpets were filthy (although my parents told me they were back in the 1990's when we used to holiday there) the beds were hard and uncomfortable and there was mould on the curtains and walls, the bathroom had cobwebs all over the place and the hot water was heated up by an old immersion. The tv could only pick up channel 4 and the kitchen only had a cooker, no microwave.
I didn't bother staying on the park in the day although we did go to the evening entertainment which the kids obviously really enjoyed but it was exactly the same as when I was a child in the early 90's i.e not updated!I could have enjoyed the evenings if only it wasn't for the disgusting mouthy chavs who pushed me over and gave me dirty looks most of the night. Did not bother to see what the pool was like and didn't let my son into the playground as there appeared to be shattered glass on the ground.
The only high light of the holiday was visiting the lovely beach across the road and going to the nearby town of Rye for dinner and also Hastings where they cooked the best fish and chips in the world!! In the end I left a day early as I just couldn't bare it any longer so overall it wasn't a very pleasant experience and would never visit again, its definitely had its day.

My two 10yr olds and I booked at the last minute due to the forecast guaranteeing a long sunny Easter weekend. We picked up our offer for a classic room for £79. I had read the reviews the evening before and seriously contemplated not even going....I was dreading what we would find. However, I can honestly say our chalet was quite acceptable - and I've stayed in some classy joints in my time! Bedding was clean, so was the kitchen. It's all very basic. No toaster, so took my own along with my non stick frying pan and casserole dish (as I knew they were not provided).
The weather was glorious so we spent all the time outdoors....so for eating and sleeping our accommodation suited us perfectly. We stayed 3 nights...and that was enough! Could not do a week!
Entertainment we found boring....finding a table of an evening is like looking for needle in haystack....bluecoats did their job - though their games lasted far too long to keep my children amused.
If you're taking up a special discounted offer for a club or classic room, I would recommend it, so long as weather is good too. The chalet cleaners do work hard and staff do try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We went self catering and took along all our own quality food, the local shop carries basic products to get you by....would suggest you take along much of your own stuff too.
All in all....it was not as bad as the reviews made out....yes, a bit of mould on curtains, but it was slight. Nothing to write home about, for the price!
It's like walking through a time warp - upon entry one goes right back to the 1980's.....and that's where you remain until you leave.
