The week before we travelled, i foolishly read the reviews of Pontins Camber Sands on this very site, and openly appologised to my wife and children, as i thought id let them down. We booked through our local paper here in Hull, east yorkshire, for 5days 4 nights halfboard inc a cot for a bargain £227. On arriving, we were aware that we couldnt book into our apartment until 4pm as the rooms were being cleaned and preped. When you see the size of the site, and with so many people leaving on `different days, its no wonder they occasionally get it wrong. We took advantage of the "Queen Vic" pub, the prices were rather high, 2 pints of guinness and small diet coke £8.15! There was kareoke and video horse/dog racing to keep us entertained. From 5-7pm its happy hour which makes life alot simpler and affordable. But children arent allowed in the bar from 6pm, so when it rained you had to sit outside on the benches, which was rather unpleasant. Overall, the weather was very kind which allowed us to take advantage of the fantastic beach, so never got to try the swimming pool or the games room so cant comment on them. The food hall was always busy, but a constant supply of hot food, starters and sweets kept us happy and full - no salads but there are veggie options. The accomodation - i get the distinction impression that the apartments are being slowly upgraded, as we had double glazing through out, all the cupbards/wardrobes seemed fairly new - the pull out bed was an instrument of torture to sleep on, thankfully we had two single beds available. The room was clean, the main carpet needs a good hard clean at the end of the season, my toddlers feet were black from running on it, but i appreciate that peaople walking in allsorts from the beach etc, the carpet takes a hammering. I was lead to believe that this pontins site have new owners, so the much needed lick of paint the site needs will be happening soon.
The staff work tirelessly, and the Blue Coats deserve medals for trying so hard to entertain the holiday makers, and you were always met with a smile and a kind word.
So to sum up, would i go back??? YES!!!
Yes pontins is dated, yes it needs a lick of paint here and there but for what i paid, i didnt expect the raffles hotel, but did get alot more than i originally thought, and would recommend it to any families on a budget for a great holiday.

My friend and I went booked Pontins in Camber Sands to chill out and relax whilst the kids enjoyed themselves. We spent either our time complaining about the general cleanliness and safety of our chalet, or on the beautiful beach there. We were upgraded into 'club' within 1 hour because the first chalet had just been painted and was wet to touch. The chalets were both as filthy inside but as we stayed in the best(!) i will comment on this one and the surrounding envionment.
Had I known what I know now I wouldn't even consider my dog staying there. It was completely rotten, filthy, tablets and other rubbish was left under the so called sofa bed, staff were also complaining - saying the place should be torn down, mould and mildew everywhere, dirty carpets, no wardrobe doors, holes in the buildings outside, dirty floors... I could go on all day but the short of it is I have complained, taken photo's, kept a log during our stay, got numerous customer care forms, I asked to speak to Phil Martin the manager(doesn't work on weekends!)and I am in the middle of copying all evidence to send of to Pontins Head Office, Trading Standards and anyone else that will listen. DO NOT waste YOUR money on going here, the queue of complaints in Pontins each day we were there leads me to believe that it will be a struggle to get our money back. Take a look at the photo's! I cannot believe people return, every person we spoke to was in complete shock at the state of the place - NOT one person said that they were pleased with their chalet. AVOID!!!

We were absolutely dreading going to pontins and nearly didnt having read the terrible reviews on line. When we arrived the staff were all really friendly and made us feel very welcome. Check in was really quick. The apartment was very basic but spotlessly clean, the shower was a bit mouldy and the curtains but it was livable. The sands resteraunt had a good menu and the food was surprisingly good. The facilities on site were very old and dated but the kids enjoyed them but the swimming pool was quite dirty which put us off going there more than once. The main thing was the entertainment, it was very good and we really enjoyed it, especially the micheal jackson show on sunday night. Overall we couldnt fault the holiday which only cost us £120 with the sun. Would defo go again

This is the third year what we have stayed at Camber sands and we love it. The beach is lovely and the stay at Pontin’s is great, if you want a relaxing holiday then this is the place for you. There is entertainment for the children and once onsite all the facilities are for free.

Where to begin!
Turned up,wanted to turn around & go home, depressing looking apartments.
Checked in & entered apartment, looked okay at first!
Springs missing on the sofabed, kids beds are like rock,we ended up putting our matress on the floor, all 4 of us ended up with bad backs all week!
Same food on the menu all week,my wife nearly choked on a fishbone,no signs up saying theres bones in the fish(there should be by law!)suddenly the fish dissappeared from the menu!
We decided to use one of the other food outlets instead of the resturant but tey were all shut!
Went to pub for a pie & a pint for £2.99,had no pies so we just had a pint for £3.10!!!
Kids wouldnt get in the bath due to the huge cracks & chips out the bath.
Kids were bored with the entertainment prefering to play in the park!
An international bmx stuntman turned up to show tricks but a bluecoat told all the kids to go to see the smurfs as the bmxing was rubbish!!
He'd came over from france to do the show in front of 5 people!
Would never go there again & would never advise anybody to go there!
Best part of the holiday was going home!

Very poor shabby rooms

Jul 2011, Loz

Arrived in room for 4 day stay to find that the window sill outside was rotten & coming away from the wall, the windows dirty & greasy, wardrobe falling apart, carpet very stained, crockery dirty & needed a good wash as did the kitchen table, flooring in bathroom pealing away from the bath & walls, litter bin very dirty & smelly, curtains hanging off & couldn't be pulled, T V did not work all weekend.
Staff attitude to beinhg asked to correct some of these issues such as TV, curtains & windows was very poor & they didnt seem bothered at all.
Walking round the site there was rubbish everywhere
Not a very relaxing place to stop, the whole site had a very run down delapidated feel to it, certainly not a place to relax----

  • Advice: A bulldozer might help the site, the area around it was good

we read all the bad reviews and nearly didnt go!
some work has been done and is ongoing to renovate the rooms. we paid an upgrade to a superior room. the smaller chalets you have to pay for electricity which is free with the bigger ones.
Our chalet was clean and useable, kitchen and bathroom ok and heating and hot water worked fine. the staff were friendly and very helpful, the saturday night band was great. we had a nice time even though it rained thats not their fault is it?
Just remember how much you paid to come here. its not the ritz but if you are not a snob you will have a nice relaxing break with plenty to do for the kids. nice to share some time not in front of the telly or facebook!!
we went 15th to 18th july 2011

OMG We've Travelled Back to the Eighties

Well, What Can I say, Trade discriptions should be invloved in false advertising, the pictures on the web site must have been taken about 15-20 years ago.
We arrived full of hope and dread that the reviews weren't all right about this place, we were wrong....
We drove around and looked in disgust at the tatty old buildings.
We parked up and the children wanted a drink so we went to the resturant we felt we gone back in time to a '80s cafeteria, yes that bad, well we would have packed up there and then but we thought of the children. well they went to play on the bouncy slide and we wondered why they taking so long to come over top, that was because there was no netting on the tatty old thing.
Then came checkin time.....
Apartment 1 was lovely except there was 7 of us and only 6 beds, back to reception we go, sincere appologies and another apartment we open the paint peeling door and wack... the smell of mould was awful, the windows were thick, back to reception more appologies, childrenn upset by now.
Apartment 3 was just as bad, everyone in tears back to reception and demanded money back, this they actually managed.
Around us were more in a similar position, others suprised they had to but little tickets for the essentials like electric, other wandering the camp to find a Cot...
Avoid this place please the reviews are true.
We will never go to a Pontins Again

We arrived at Pontins, Camber Sands & from first arriving there thought it looked very run down but thought we would get our key as the children were tired and hungry after a long drive, we could not have imagined what we were about to encounter, the room was filthy, there was a huge hole in the door, the carpets were threadbare, the sofa bed was old stank, the beds were god knows how many years old and also threadbare, there was feces on the wall, dead flies that had been swotted on the wall, the toilet was disgusting and the toilet brush full of feces, we were disgusted, we were subsequently shown another two chalets which got progressively worse, we were not the only people complaining at reception, one fella didn't even look at the chalets and hightailed it out of there. It cost us another 200 pound to book somewhere else and i had to drive another 3 hours to get to our destination. I wouldn't stay in that hell hole if they paid me. Shame on you Pontins & to think you thought you could charge us money to stay there.....filth.

  • Advice: Dont know didnt look, had to find alternative accomodation as had 2 children with us.

Absolutely awful - do not visit here - it is the worst place I have ever stayed!

I visited Pontins Camber Sands at the weekend for a national school chess tournament. I have never stayed anywhere so disgusting in my life. I paid for the most expensive room hoping it would be half decent but unfortunately it wasn't. A nearby B&B would have been alot cheaper, 100% cleaner and probably would have included a full English breakfast. The room was awful, it stank, the kitchen and bathroom had not been cleaned but the most disgusting thing of all were the carpets, they were so dirty and stained, i dread to think how long they had been down for, I told the children to keep their shoes on all the time. I can't believe how they can charge people to stay here - I wouldn't go back if it was free. The whole place needs a complete revamp before anybody else should be allowed to stay here!

  • Advice: make sure you visit the beach it is lovely and very close-by

We have just got back from a long weekend at pontins camber sands. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN. The place is so run down. Our chalet was filthy the toilet leaked all over bathroom floor because it wasnt fixed to the floor! No shower just a bath that must have been there since the place was built. I only took my children there as we have had a terrible year so far and needed a break we came back needing another one.I went to cut up some salad on the chopping board that was in the room thank god I didnt it stank nearly made me sick. If I had used it I think we would have gone down with food poisoning. The sofa bed in room was so old and the springs were broken the only place to lay was in the middle because there was a big dip in it. Everybody I spoke to hated it and couldnt wait to go home in fact some children were singing "we're going home hooray" Another lady I spoke to had been there 2 days and had another 4 to go her room had a big hole in the bathroom floor but she was told to put up with it as they had nowhere else to put her family even though nearly every chalet in our block was empty. What a waste of my money and time. So dont go there its a dsaster waiting to happen.
