staff an hotel experience

i have just returned from this hotel after 7 days with my wife, this was my first ever holiday abroad but i wanted to say i could not have enjoyed myself anywhere else as much as in this hotel. the staff and owners were so welcoming and polite that from the time we arrived to the time we left, we felt like we had known for a lifetime. it was so clean an tidy even though it was near the end of their season, i believe anyone who stays here will feel the same and have a fantastic holiday well worth the money.

we have been to these appartments before, three years ago,and decided this year to return with our son and his girlfriend, staying in seperate appts.we love the friendly staff, the food, cooked mostly by theo and his wife is always perfect, yes, there is some rather noisy aircraft passing over, but you do get used to it!the rooms are basic, but spotless, and cleaned regularly,it is not very often that we have returned to a particular venue, but after our second stay here,we will definately be back again.no complaints whatsoever.Mr and Mrs Hall.Liverpool.

Me and my partner have just enjoyed the most relaxing week at the Emerald Studios, Staff are so freindly rooms are spotless cleaned daily, Everything you need to chill and enjoy the rays...Food is exceptional all you need at these apartments and more.....the only gripe that i have is no shower room when you are leaving to come home apart from that this is a fantastic hotel to stay in, we will definatley be taking our children back with us this year and will make this a regular holiday destination from now on.Ideal Bar on the corner was excellent also the staff are so freindly here to and you can enjoy a goodnight with an excellent sense of Humour.

We visited the Emerald Appartments this year for the second year running & both years we had an absolutely fantastic family holiday. The rooms are basic but contain everything you need. They are very clean and cleaned regularly. The staff are really friendly as are the owners. The pools are brilliant & there was always plenty of sun loungers for everyone. The area around the appartments is pretty quiet, but with a family this is just what we wanted & we wasn't dissappoitned. We would definatly recommend the Emerald Appartments to anyone.

Divergent opinions

We read the reviews just before we went and were surprised that there seemed to be no middle ground - a reviewer either loved the place or hated it. We loved it. Staff were friendly, polite, respectful, and helpful. Perhaps approaching them in the same manner is how to do it. Hotel & rooms were modern & regularly cleaned. Having sampled many others around Europe, this was quite acceptable. No problems with anything, including hot water - by the way, who on earth wants hot water in Rhodes in July? We had to pay extra for air-con, but knew this in advance. 4 pools meant there was always at least one of them a little quieter for the kids to play - they liked the playpark area also. The beaches on the west side of the island south of Rhodes new town are invariably gravel/stone, and here is no exception, but it's only a short hop on the bus (4 euro) for a family of four to Rhodes town, or a short drive to beaches on the west such as at Lindos. The noise from aircraft was evident but we didn't find it distracting at day or night - most of the afternoon there were very few flights - and being fairly close to the airport meant planes were over & gone quickly. The only con I would draw to attention is that the hotel and nearby beach are in a fairly quiet area between 2 more developed towns of Iyallissos & Kremasti (circa 20 mins walk each way) with only 3 or 4 (albeit acceptable) resturants and only shops being 2 supermarkets. If you want lots of shops, busier nightlife, and a sandy beach, go somewhere else - try Rhodes town or Lindos. If you want a value for money holiday with young children, and you're gonna hire a car, I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel & resort. Other good options are Kalithea or Kolumbia. Leave Faliraki for the under 25's but don't miss the waterpark there.

An excellent place to stay

Although this is a review based purely on opinion, I urge any new visitors to Rhodes to try at least some of the following suggestions which I can guarantee will help make your holiday.
We had stayed at Emerald appartments before so knew what to expect, the accommodation is clean, rooms are serviced two or three times a week, with regular towel changes.
The property is relatively new and so maintains a well presented apprearance, and is an ideal choie for people wanting to either use it as a base for getting out and about, or for those who like a leisurely holiday sitting by the pool or hotel bar.
The sataff are friendly, and host traditional "Greek Nights" and barbeques through the week. The food menu is also quite good if you don't fancy vebturing further afield soe nights and boasts traditional greek as well as more standard fayre if you want a taste of home.
Either side of the appartmemts lie the villages of Kremasti and Trianda, Kremasti is a litle more traditional and laid back and around 10 minutes walk, boasting some good tavernas, in our opinion the best of which is Zorba's, right at the end of the main road leading through Kremasti towards the airport.
Trianda is a little more lively and is around 30 to 40 minutes walk, or around 5 euro in a taxi, but still boasts some quality tavernas and any amount of bars with a host of supermarkets, tourist and souvenir shops.
Closer to the Hotel itself (in fact just over the road) is "Ideal Bar" who offer perhaps the best nightly karaoke shows on the planet, and close when the last person wants to leave, which is often around dawn!
The one very minor downside is that it's close to the airport so there is a lot of aircraft noise, but this isn't all day and is something you quickly get used to and in fact, it's is quite interesting to see the different types and sizes of plane come overhead on approach to Rhodes airport.

from start to finish this was a holiday from hell. first not in trianda but a small place called Kremasti. no hot water, not close to the beach, not close to any shops just a small paper shop, right on the flight path for the main airport so you think the plains are gonna land on you the noise is realy bad night and day, air conditioning cost £90 for two weeks, food was sooooo bad and very expensive. dont go there you have been warned.

What a place this was it was a replacement holiday due to the collaspe of another travel firm and we wished we had taken the refund instead the room was dirty and smelt as we entered it the cleaning consisted of a broom pushed around it and around most things on the floor the bathroom didnt even get that as i checked each day and the same hairs from my wifes head that landed ther the first day stayed in the same place on the floor for the hole 2 weeks the shower curtain and bath looked like they were never cleaned and the loo well lets not go there we took down the shower curtain to use the shower then rehung it after the balcony still had hair on the floor from the previous holiday maker and it was still there when we left after the broom came a mop that stank it make us reach the fridge was a health hazzard and the staff well id rather not say it might get me into trouble and yes this place is on the landing flight path so aircraft noise is part of your holiday but its great if you like to watch and hear planes all day and night the pool area now water was cold and dirty but i think this was due to the pumps not working for a couple of days which were fixed so thats a good point half of the sunloungers were broken or water logged and i think ill leave it there now the staff pass on that one dont think we will be going here again and we do holiday in Greece twice a year most years shame this place is not up to scratch

Not as bad as people have made it out to be

I am surprised by the diversity of opinions of this hotel. My partner and I stayed at the Emerald for two weeks and like with most things there were a few issues although the pros outshone these.
We were told by thomas cook that you may hear a little noise from the aeroplanes, that was a little of a understatement and yes at first the noise could be quite prominant. However they were not coming in every five minutes and did not fly late at night, after two weeks we had adusted to the noise and didnt notice it.
Unfortually the walls of the apartments were quite thin and if ur a young couple being placed in a room next to screaming kids who insited getting up at the crack of dawn it can get very annoying, lets put it this way the first week this family were there i slept very little.
The final con i guess is the cooking equipment, now we didnt come to greece to cook for ourselves, we wanted to explore local food which we did, however if we had of wanted to cook, it would have been difficult with the little equipment avaliable. You could fry or boil thats it unfortually and i would have liked more from a self catering facility.
Other than that the rooms were cleaned regulary, i had plenty of hot water, staff were friendly always saying hello whenever we went by. I enjoyed the pool facilities even if the water was a little cold, however, on a hot day it was just want we wanted. The food was well cooked and although chips were a main element this was a theme throughout the whole of Rhodes not just the Emerald.
The buses to Rhodes town are frequent and only cost 2 euro per person, i fully recommend the old town as it is stunning. Also if you want excursions if you walk towards the beach in trianda and come accross the blue bay hotel there is a travel agent called Sigma travel near by, we booked four excursions there and they were very reliable. I definately recommend the island tour it was fantastic and the boat trip to Symi as its a beautiful island to visit. Also Lindos is a stunning town, however if your not fond of walking up very steep hills, Lindos is very steep in parts and although there is the alternateive of riding a donkey i wouldnt recommed it. The donkeys looked tired and in some cases over worked and mis treated. The beaches in Lindos are sandy, the water is so clear and warm that you can see small fishes swimming around your feet.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay in Rhodes, if you plan to spend a long time in the hotel and want luxury then i would not recommend the Emerald there are better options in Ixia and Rhodes, however if you want a clean friendly place in which to stay with good transporting options to explore the island then i would recommend this hotel.

What a mistake to make, asked travel...
1 / 10
Oct 2008, Mrs Kon Elen Parton

What a mistake to make, asked travel agent (Thomas Cook) for a hotel in a quiet area.
Problems right from the start, no hot water after about half six till about mid-day the following day. Accomodation was very basic with no bedside lights, only main lights in rooms. Air conditioning a must but came at the cost of 45 euro's per room (we had a two room unit).
Was told by Travel Agent that the hotel was near the airport so one may expect noise. Noise, it was on the flight path with aircrafy not more than 100 feet above.
Was charged for under occupancy but you could not feed 6 in this unit.
Bath was big enough for a three year old.
Thomas Cook rep was full of empathy but lacked understanding and stated that "All 3* Hotels have solar heating for water and there was nothing she could do"
Very dissapointed with Thomas Cook at the resort although their flights were excellent.
Having said all that, front of house was good with all areas clean and with friendly staff.

Although we had an excellent holiday...

Although we had an excellent holiday the staff of the hotel were unfriendly and unhelpful. Our room 403 had a balcony and the stairs to the rest of the hotel right outside it. If this wasn't bad enough there were public toilet windows at the end and every time somebody used them we could hear the noise.
The morning after we arrived we asked poiltely to be moved, we were told by one member of staff that we could be moved on the wednesday, this was good enough for us and we waited. When Wednesday came we went back to reception and asked another member of the staff what time we were moving rooms, only to be told that they had no empty rooms and we were not being moved. We knew that this was not true as people had left, their rooms lay empty until the following Saturday. We spent the rest of the holiday with the bars of the stairs in front of us. If they had no intention of moving us they should have said so instead of lying.
There was very little discipline around the hotel, children were allowed to run riot around the complex until they had had enough. One of the things that caused this problem was under age drinking.
