Marrols Hotel Reviews
" Bratislava is a small compact city.... "
Submitted By: Mr J Kimm
Bratislava is a small compact city. It has some wonderful buildings all within walking distance and if your idea of heaven is shopping there is a couple of streets in the centre, a large Tesco which sells everything and a couple of easy to reach shopping malls.
Why not walk over the futuristic bridge over the Danube and take the lift to the top for a panoramic view from the restaurant, or take the few extra steps to the outdoor viewing platform right on the top. Continue over the bridge to Aupark shopping mall. There are plenty of pubs and clubs with meals and refreshment at reasonable prices around the centre. At Christmas the market is a busy mix of traditional food and items for sale. Hotel Marrols is perfect apart from a couple of drawbacks:
1. it is a little walk from the main square.
2. It does not really have a lounge bar.
3. The breakfast is typical East European and not as big a variety than the Carlton. (But then it is included in the price).
The fact that you have a PC with Broadband in the room a large double bed a 32in Plasma TV and free wine, beer, and soft drinks in the mini bar, a Bose sound system DVD player etc. more than make up and make it a must for me when I visit.
I have visited Bratislava in the summer and at Christmas and would recommend it to anyone for a short break or as a base for exploring at any time of the year. Vienna is only 1 hr away. The local transport is safe, clean, easy to use and very cheap. You buy a time based ticket and can travel on any tram within that time.
Slovakia is a wonderful country with beautiful scenery; well worth a visit you will love it.

The only two minus points were that breakfast wasn't included (£6 each - beautiful restaurant and a very good spread). Also, their health spa had to be prebooked (at a cost of £60 after 2pm) for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 6 people. But who goes on holiday with 6 people?
It would have been so nice just to have a quick 30-45 minutes in the Jacuzzi to refresh ourselves. But not at £30 each! Shame, as everything else was perfect, and you'll never stay in a nicer hotel. And Bratislava itself is a gem of a place, lots to do and see for a weekend break.
