Apollo is not particularly pleasing from the outside, nor in the lobby. But the rooms, service and restaurant more than makes up for this. We had a fantastic room with views over the canals and a very helpful room service.
The beds and showers are of very good quality. Points they could improve on are: staff on reception did not speak very good English and as we made this booking directly with the hotel it took us 7 phone calls to confirm it! Once there we asked for a taxi and after 30 minutes they came back to us asking to clarify what our query regarding Dutch taxes were!
As we were on a leisure break and not in a hurry we could obviously see the funny side in this at the time, but had it been a tight scheduled business break it could have meant missed meetings/flights etc. Finally - don't miss their massive continental buffet breakfast - it's very impressive. Location is about 20 mins on a tram from city centre or about the same time in a taxi. Nice and quiet away from the smoke!
