Bellevue Hotel

We stayed at the Bellevue Hotel during August 2007; the price was 387 euros for 3 nights. Overall we had a very pleasant stay at the Bellevue, and the central location is ideal for exploring Amsterdam - the hotel is situated just a few minutes from Centraal Station.
Room: The Bellevue is a very clean and bright hotel - our room was very modern and clean, with comfortable beds (2 twins pushed together for a double, might bother some), a flat screen TV on the wall and a funky bathroom. There is no separate shower cubicle, just a shower curtain and drain, so be careful on the floor! There is a lack of storage in the bathroom with just one small shelf, but for a short stay it shouldn't be a problem. There was also a safe deposit box, hair-dryer, air con, and heating.
Size-wise, the rooms were adequate - not big, but enough room for 2 people. We did get some noise due to being right next to the ground floor door heading into the lobby so hearing it open and close in the morning, but I think we were just unlucky - other than that the room was pretty quiet once the window was closed. Another thing missing was the tea and coffee making facilities! We took a travel kettle instead, but I feel it is more convenient to have it provided.
Location: The Bellevue's location is incredibly convenient - just across the road from the train station, down the street parallel to the Damrak (the main street down to Dam Square). There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in easy reach. You can get trams or buses from outside the nearby station to a variety of locations around Amsterdam. Many boat trips also operate near the station.
Service/Facilities: The staff were polite and friendly. Maid service was very good with new towels and bedding daily. We didn't get breakfast there, so I can't comment on that, though the restaurant was spacious and pleasant.
Overall, the Bellevue is a very good hotel and ideal for a short stay in the city. While there may be better hotels, with double beds and bigger rooms, this hotel offers good value for money for a central location.
