Timhotel Palais Royal Hotel Reviews

8 / 10
Aug 2006, Miss M Dyson

A superb hotel for the price, very clean & well-maintained, with friendly & polite desk staff. Rooms are small, as is to be expected in any European city centre hotel, but as Paris has so much to do and see, most people probably wouldn't spend very much time in their room... more

What a great little hotel
We stayed here for 12 nights at the end of May, and we will definitely go back. The hotel is clean, quiet, and comfortable if a little small, and the location is wonderful. The Louvre is less than 10 minutes stroll away, and you can get there through the gardens of the Palais Royal. The hotel is in a working neighborhood (the financial district) and not really touristy, although it has things that are worth seeing, like the shopping galleries (Gallery Vivienne is a few doors away) and the Place de la Victoire. Our room was small, with a tiny, awkward shower, but our bed was king-sized and very comfortable, and our sheets and towels were changed daily. We didn't bother with the breakfast buffet (10 euros) but ate at Au Panetier, and sweet little art nouveau bakery a short block away.
lack of customer service
long message but worth reading... My friends and I arrived at the hotel mid-day, total of 5. We therefore required a double and a triple room. We all proceeded to check out our rooms and were quite happy after viewing the first one, however upon entering the second room - our stay went downhill. As soon as we opened the door a stench wafted throughout the corridor. Someone obviously had been sick in the room that morning (or night previous) as the smell was so strong to the point of making everyone else feel ill,. The floor was still wet in the area, the bed cover was missing and the bedskirt had questionable stains. We proceeded to the front desk to ask for an alternate room and were told that the hotel was full. We asked if we could be moved to either another Timhotel or to a property in the area (being in the travel industry - I figured this would be the easiest thing to do) However, we were advised that that was impossible as it was a long weekend in Paris - and he would try to move us to another room the next day or so. We were then provided with a bottle of air freshener and told to leave the door/window open. Neither helped the situation and the smell only got stronger. First thing next morning we asked for another room - same story - full, and we were then handed a bottle of vinegar to clean the carpet ourselves ! Finally the third night we were given a new room - expecting some sort of discount for the first two nights. Checking out turned into an ordeal, the manager and front desk agent decided that they would only give a 40 Euro discount off the rate, stating it was for the breakfast buffet.(which we only ate at once because it wasn't until the second day that we realized it was 10Euro per person) There's a great patisserie down the street for a far better breakfast at half the price. After confronting the situation, the manager asked why we didn't ask to be moved to another hotel which we did - and told him we were advised the city was full - he didn't believe us and stood his ground. To avoid further conflict we just settled the bill. The hotel alone would have been fine - rooms are small , location is great but don't expect service from anyone at the hotel, from the cleaning staff all the way to management - It's too bad that the attituded of the hotel was so un-caring, it put a damper on a good portion of the trip.
Perfect for a short stay
I booked a Eurostar package (train plus this hotel for one night - going over for Springsteen gig at the Bercy!). As the deal was quite cheap I wasn't expecting much from the hotel but I was pleasantly surprised. Set in a very central location, less than 5 minutes walk from the Bourse metro, this hotel was ideal for me and my friends to get back to after the gig. The room was clean, bathroom on the small side, the shower in particular was a tight squeeze for my larger travelling companion. It was certainly a great place for a short stay though possibly longer and you might begin to notice the cramped spaces. 24 hour reception meant that my friends and I could go out and enjoy the early hours of Paris and still get back into the hotel at 5am when we returned. i'll definitely be staying here again.
Recommended!
I have stayed at TimHotel Palais Royal Louvre during my 3 day visit in Dec 2006. It was the first time in my life I stay in a 2 star hotel and frankly I was anxious! The hotel is located in a quite and clean street near Paris Stock Exchange and 5 minutes from metro "La bourse" station. It was not that easy to find it as it blends really well with the rest of the building. When I first entered It was a nice surprise as my expectations where quite low. Some african guy at the reception was half asleep and was eating something. Not that proffessional. However he was nice and helpful. The hotel has been renovated recently so the entrance is really cute and so is the see through elevator (great to claustrophobic guys like me). The rooms are very clean and the bathroom spotless! Note that this is the smallest room I have ever slept into my whole life. No problem though as you get used to it very quckly. Mind you don't get large bagage when if you decide to go to this hotel as it will seriously take a lot of space. As for the shower I had to swallow my tummy to get into it (seriously!) ok I am 10Kilos overweitght but nothing very significant! The hotel is exactly 8 minutes walking distance to the louvre. I suggest you go visit the louvre and continue walking stratight ahead through the garden de tuileries until you reach the Arch de Triomph. This walk will make your day in the most beautiful city in the world!!!
Great hotel
Stayed 5 nights at this hotel in August 2005 and was very impressed. The hotel was in a good location, 5-10 minutes pleasant walk through the Palais Royal gardens to the Lourve and good metro stations. Although the rooms were tiny (which is typical for Paris hotels), the room was modern and clean, having recently been renovated. The only down side was the small bathroom and tiny shower, which managed to flood the bathroom a few times. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and organised a shuttle bus to CDG airport for E30 for the two of us. Definately recommend trying the Au Panetier pastry shop for breakfast which is behind the building that faces the hotel (thanks to a previous reviewer for the recommendation). I have stayed at 3 Timhotels, all which were good, and next time I go to Paris I will definately stay at this one again.
Small, clean but very mean!!!
Don't expect the Ritz and you won't be disappointed with this conveniently located two star ** hotel. You are within walking distance , 5-10 minutes, of the Metro / RER and the Louvre is just down the road. The room was small and basic but clean. The shower was quite temperamental..blowing hot and cold but adequate for its purpose. There is no minibar and thus no opportunity to store perishable food items. Tea and Coffee making facilities are provided but they were quite mean in providing replenishments so you may have to buy them yourselves. In addition a small bottle of water is provided only on your first night at the hotel but this is not a major problem as the tap water is safe to drink. The toilet (WC) is in a separate room from the bath/shower room and there is no wash basin in the toilet room and is thus a little unhygeinic so you may want to sterilise the door handles before settling in as you never know what your previous guests were like! Staff were always pleasant if a little unhelpful in actually fulfilling your requests (Eg didn't provide extra milk portions when maid 'forgot' to leave them in the room). I didn't try the breakfast but it's around 8 Euros for the usual continental style thing - You may prefer to shop around in the morning as there are innumerable cafes in the surrounding vicinity. Overall this place was small, clean but very mean!!!!!
Nice Hotel -Good location
My husband and I stayed at this hotel from July 10th-13th. Yes, it was a smaller hotel, but the room was big enough, the bath was clean, bed comfortable. The AC was having a losing battle but it was in the mid 80's during our visit and when we opened the windows in the bedroom and bath we had a wonderful breeze. They gave us a wonderful recommendation for dinner. The hotel is situated where you can walk to the Louvre in 10 minutes and it was close to the river attractions where you didn't have to get a taxi. The conceirge were helpful and guided us in the right direction. I would highly recommend this hotel.
location location location
This hotel represents value for money, it is ideally situated right next door to the Gallerie Vivienne. The hotel is located in an expensive area, but there are plenty of bistros to suit all types of pockets. It is literally a 5 minute walk to the Palais Royal and then a further 5 minutes to the Louvre. Then going in the other direction 10 minutes to the Galleries Lafayette. The rooms whilst basic are clean comfortable and air conditioned. The breakfast is self service but more than sufficient. Have used this hotel twice and intend to use it again on my next trip.
one bad apple
Finding the place proved a problem. Took us ages and its really not that central. Had a few problems with the room and the most unhelpful person works there. One of the most unfriendly person I have ever met - was tempted to move hotels. Was only this person to be honest as the rest were fine. Is quite far from the Metro stations and a lot of homeless people live round the corner by the Bistro Vivienne. Have stayed at the Timhotel Louvre and would go back there any time. Pity it was booked up this time round.
Best Value Hotel in Paris
This is a two star hotel, so I wasn't expecting too much, however I was pleasently surprised, Tea and Coffee in the room, Air Con, Fan, Colour TV en-suite and even a small balcony. All very clean and comfortable. This hotel has 7 floors and has a lift. The hotel is situated just down the road from Bourse metro, but the best thing is that it's a stones throw from the Royal Louvre gardens which makes such a nice cut through to the Louvre which is about 10 minutes walk. The street is quiet with many Cafe's and Bars nearby, we used these for breakfast as the hotel breakfast at 8.5 euros seemed a little over priced. If I had to find a fault it might be the soundproofing which could be improved. I would definately stay again, great location and quality of cleanliness was excellent.
