The Suite life
I think the mixed reviews you see of the Lutetia Hotel have a lot to do with the inconsistency of the rooms. I understand that some of the standard rooms are quite small and face the courtyard. I do agree that this hotel can be pricey, but no more so than any other 4 or 5 star hotels in Paris. If you pay a bit more, and opt for a suite or deluxe room facing the Eiffel tower the Lutetia is a wonderful hotel. I happen to like older, historic hotels. The Lutetia was the first art deco hotel in Paris, built in 1910. It has a beautiful... more
This was the best hotel in Paris durng WWII
We stayed at the Lutetia in December 2004 as part of a small group that came to Paris for musical events. We enjoyed our stay very much, and were quite happy with our room, but another couple in the group were complaining about the lack of heat in their room. I think they got switched. Our French friends told us that the Lutetia was the best hotel in Paris during World War II, and for that reason the Germans chose it for their headquarters! It has a nice location on the West Bank close to a Metro stop, and with a number of very nice... more
Had a great stay
It would be impossible for me to say anything but positive comments, but I think I may have had an unusual experience. I arrived at the hotel at 8:30 a.m. and checked in. I made my reservation through Amex Platinum Travel Service, for a deluxe room. I was shown to an unbelievable suite on the top floor of the hotel, 2 balconies overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Walk-in shower had 5 heads. Quite an impressive room. I suspect the AMEX upgrade was a good bit more than one room class, but what a treat! If you travel frequently, this card is... more
Great room, lovely service
My daughter and I stayed at the Lutetia for 6 nights last June. I had emailed the hotel several weeks before our arrival to request a room with a view, explaining that it was my 16 year old daughter's first trip to Paris. When we arrived I asked the front desk clerk if they were able to accomodate my request. "Why yes, madam, we hope you will be happy with your room." We certainly were! We walked in to find a large room, with a balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower. It was beautifully appointed, with a very large bathroom, plenty... more
Not very impressed
Having been to paris many times and stayed in some good value smart hotels (e.g the Cayre), I was very disappointed by the Lutetia. It looks great from the outside, and the common parts are lovely but some of the rooms are awful. We were given a shabby room that needed redecorating, and after the 2nd night we developed a leak in the bathroom which flooded the floor. We were moved to another room which was about 10 times nicer than our original one! It shows that they will try and shove you in to the grimmest rooms and hope you will not... more
Hotel Lutetia - A True Disappointment and Lesson in Online Discrimination
For regular travelers who are spending extra money to get a better hotel and get pampered in a nicer hotel - this is definitely not the hotel for you, and is definitely not worth the money you pay. The overall quality of this room was the same as a 2 star hotel in France. The wallpaper had white paint stains, all of the furniture was damaged (particularly in the remodeled rooms this is unacceptable), the carpet dirty, the bathroom very small, no real hairdryers except in real rooms, the mattress was not good quality, the room was very... more
wonderful hotel
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Lutetia. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. We were upgraded to a beautiful deluxe room with an unbelieveable view of the Eiffel tower. The room was spacious, elegant and unlike any other hotel room that I have experienced in Paris. (most are so small!) We enjoyed the buffet breakfast that the hotel offered which was very good. The hotel is in an ideal area (close to the metro, shopping, cafes, etc..) The first night my boyfriend and I found a romantic... more
Shoddy Room - High Price
400 Euros in July, 2005 got us Room 324 - an extremely small room overlooking a grimy courtyard. This supposedly non-smoking room reeked of tobacco and the worn carpet had numerous burn marks in it. The bathroom floors and walls were dirty, with the grout between the ancient green tiles turned black from the grime. The linens were thin and rough - no fabric softener here! The bed pillows resemble a folded bath towel in both size and texture. I've stayed in cleaner, more luxurious rooms in Red Roof Inns for 1/8 the price! Granted, the... more
Honeymoon in Paris!
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lutetia on our honeymoon in April/May 2001, it was fantastic. The room was a little small (as most hotel rooms in Europe are), but it was clean, and our room had a view of the Eiffel Tower. The staff was very nice, the food at the restaurant and cafe were terrific, the hotel was conveniently located near the metro station, and Le Bon Marche.
Expensive crash pad
This hotel is in a great location and has fabulous public rooms. We had booked a superior room but room 502 was anything but superior. Very small with no sitting area it had at least been refurbished. The air conditioning didn’t appear to work so we had to leave the French windows open resulting in very excessive street noise. The bedroom walls must be paper-thin because on our first morning we were woken up at 6:30 by an alarm call to the next room and then room service serving breakfast. Don’t eat or drink in the hotel unless you enjoy... more
