Don't be put off by the Bright paint outside!!

Don't let the distance from the city put you off, the metro is literally 2-3 minutes walk away, is simple to use and is only around 10 minutes away. I prefered to be out of the centre as it broke the day up "playing" on the metro.
Hotel itself was very clean, had pleasant staff and was lovely and warm, a pleasure to return to after a wintery stroll.
a tip to those who fancy a drink or simple meal in the hotel - Go downstairs to the bowling alley. Drink was approx 55% cheaper, basic meals were approx 30%. For example, pint in the lobby bar 60CK (Ap. £2), Bowling alley - 24CK (Ap. 85p).
Do check hotel website for deals on Taxi from airport to hotel. We saved by booking online the day we travelled. Recommend as even tourist guide books purchased in Prague said that unfortunately not all taxi drivers are Honest and to be aware.
All in all a good hotel, Will stay again when visiting Prague in the future.

I've just read other reviews of this...
9 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr J Gardner

I've just read other reviews of this hotel and can't believe the negative ones. I stayed here with my wife for three nights in July and cannot really fault the place. I booked a double room over the internet and was immediatly upgraded to a very comfortable suite at no extra cost. I paid 65 euro's a night which included a substantial buffet style breakfast with a huge choice including british, continental and healthy options.
I asked for transport to be arranged from the airport, a taxi was waiting for us when we arrived despite a flight delay, this costs a fixed 700CZ which is around £28. The public transport connections to the airport in Prague are not good from anywhere so I would recommend this option.
Porters took our luggage to our suite and the reception staff were very friendly.
I can't comment on the restaurants in the hotel as we didn't use them except for breakfast and as I've previously said that was excellent. The bar area was comfortable and spacious, the prices were reasonable, 60CZ, around £3 for a large beer.
The metro station is just across the road from the hotel, a 24 hour unlimited use ticket can be bought from the hotel reception for 100CZ, around £4. It takes 10 minutes to reach the Muzeum station which is right in the centre of Prague in Wenceslas square.
We think we got good value for money at the Duo hotel and will be returning next year.
I would have awarded 10/10 if the hotel had been a little closer to the centre of Prague.
Don't be put off by some of the negative reviews posted. I'm very hard to please and don't usually write reviews, this is the best hotel for the money I've stayed in for a long time.

Just returned from staying in the...

Jul 2008, Mrs J Frampton

Just returned from staying in the Hotel Duo with a group of friends, ages ranging from 17 to 63.
The outside of the hotel is so brightly coloured it looks tatty and ridiculous, and is surrounded by council looking blocks of flats, lots of them.
The hotel does offer all that is states in its description, the room was comfortable, the air con didn’t work though, the bars and restaurants were adequate, although people can smoke in the bar seating area, and it does get really smokey. It does cater for very large groups of School children. When your sitting having a drink of an evening they are very noisy.
The biggest let down were the staff, from the reception staff to the waiters, they were all very very rude. To numerous to tell you about them all. In fact we had the same kind of reception in the shops and restaurants all over Prague, they don’t have any manners and they are blatantly rude, plus it is very expensive.
Even though the tourist parts are really lovely we all left Prague very disappointed with the way we were treated and all have said we wont ever go back

May 2008, Mr W Gordon

dont expect a 4*hotel room .this is strictly a 3*hotel that has a lot of extra facilities which you will probably never use. i.e.bowling and a so called casino that contains only a few slot machines.lobby area very cheaply furnished, corridors very institutional, and rooms small and with sheets that barely cover the beds.not a place to go for a luxury weekend.but its cheap and kind of cheerfull,in a tacky way.new metro station opened in may directly outside hotel,so getting into town is cheap as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere.fix a price with taxis in city centre or you will be ripped off.work ongoing on hotel structure outside, but this is not stated on any hotel websites,so be warned it could go on for another few months.a very good breakfast was the only redeeming feature of this hotel.a huge hotel that mainly caters for bus tours and the mass market.dont expect the personal touch or a warm greeting here.hotel inos seems much nicer for a quiet stay.would i return? no.

Were very pleasantly surprised with standard of hotel after reading other reviews.
The rooms we had (in Tower B) were very clean and well equipped and beds were very comfy. Bathroom excellently clean.
We arrived at 9:00 am expecting not to be allowed into our room until late afternoon, but were given the door pass immediately by a very pleasant receptionist. Also dealt with by a very friendly porter on our departure.
As on other reviews, however, we did find that the Czech people, in general, didn't smile at all. Breakfast was exceptional with a vast choice of food.
Distance from City Centre not a problem - bus and metro services excellent. Also, a new Metro Station is being built right opposite Hotel to be finished in June 2008 so this will make transportation even better.
Prague fantastic city with loads to see and keep you occupied. The Easter markets were fantastic and added to the holiday. Also, advised not to take children (17 and 11) but they would have thoroughly enjoyed it and will return taking them with us.
All in all we had a fantastic time and would recommend both Prague and the Hotel Duo.

Just returned today from Prague....

Feb 2007, rubyport

Just returned today from Prague. Stayed at hotel Duo.
The only comment I have is that the arrogance of some nations really made being on holiday difficult.
I have never really seen the divide before but this four day break, really opened my husband and my eyes.
Hotel transfer, make sure you have one that speaks some English when booking.
Even the hotel seemed to ignore the English very obviously. Metro system superb.

A disappointment for me and my partner. The room was okay, a bit basic but we got a cheap deal. Tea and coffee making facilities, sky TV. Clean.
Staff not really friendly and one gets the feeling they smiled reluctantly, maybe it’s a Prague thing but overall we didn’t find the natives that friendly.
Quite a nice restaurant on site but a bit expensive. Naff souvenir shop. We didn’t get to see the gym. Hotel is quite far from the town. I wouldn’t go back.

I was disappointed with the Hotel Duo...
2 / 10
Jul 2006, Mr C Speakman

I was disappointed with the Hotel Duo as I was expecting good things from this 4 Star hotel it claims to be. As we approached the hotel in the taxi, you could see that the hotel needed a touch of paint, it looked very tatty from the outside which didn’t look to appealing. The main complaint about this hotel is the fact that they seem to close the amenities within the hotel early or they were not open at all.
The Formanka restaurant was never open for the 5 nights we were there and neither was the swimming pool. The restaurants didn’t have much choice and seemed very expensive. The souvenir shop opened at silly times 7.30am - 10.30am then closed until 4.30pm. There was never any one on the reception were we could hire sauna's, massage or sun beds hence we never did any of these activities. The hotel is about a 20 minute train journey from the centre of Prague which can be a bit of a pain. The staff didn’t seem pleasant and didn’t really go out of their way to help you.
On the positive side, the breakfast was excellent - a wide range of food including bacon, sausages and eggs. The best place to eat was the lobby bar which served more of an English menu, although none of the staff seemed to understand that we wanted to order a plate of chips, or fries. A lot of different nationalities stop at this hotel and although I have no complaints about this, there was a massive Chinese conference going on throughout our stay at the hotel. The views through the window from your room aren’t that great and try to avoid getting a room over looking the beer garden on the first few floors otherwise you'll get a nasty whiff of cigarette smoke through your window although this garden does close at 11pm.
All in all, although Prague was a lovely city which I'd love to visit again, I won't be stopping at the Hotel Duo.

We stayed in March for 6 nights the hotel is clean the staff are friendly the selection of food for breakfast was excellent. We also tried the restaurants and the food was lovely.
The bus stop across the road you can also get the O Tesco bus with is a free bus to a shopping mall and the same bus to bring you back takes about 5-10 mins metro & buses are easy to use.
Not as cheap as we are lead to believe same as back home except cigs & drink. They also have a C & A.

Generally a pleasant hotel although the food service leaves a lot to be desired, even for 'local' cuisine. I wouldn't recommend paying for a meal there.
A little bit out of the city centre but with such an efficient public transport system it is no trouble at all to get around.
That said, you're better off heading into the city centre as there aren't many English speaking locals in the area surrounding the hotel.
Better suited for couples or groups than families as Prague is quite 'adult' in some aspects and there is not very much to entertain children.

I emailed the Hotel before we left to arrange champagne and a taxi from the airport, they emailed back promptly and everything was as asked. We stayed in Tower B, the rooms were nice and clean, the shower was one of the best in any hotel I have stayed in, the bed comfy, it was a little to hot in the room but you can change the radiator.
We had food in the Formika restaurant which was brilliant, so good we ate there again. The breakfasts were really good with loads of variety including hot, cold, fruit and fresh bread. Everyone says its to far from the sites, but we did not find this was a problem, a bus from opposite the hotel takes about 2 minutes to get to the metro which is then about another 8 minutes into town and everything is so clean and regular, it puts out transport to shame.
We loved Prague and would recommend it to anyone and there is definitely stay at the Duo again.

is hotel was the worst I have ever...

Jun 2005, Miss N Pili

is hotel was the worst I have ever been too, its clean enough and then that’s about it.
First of all they had over booked and so instead of the Twin room that I had paid and booked in advance we were given a Double room which if handled properly I would not have minded but they were rude and made it seem like it was our problem and the lady didn’t even move her eyes from the pc screen! no smiles they didn’t even bother looking at you.
At breakfast we were greeted (use that term loosely) and seated with another couple who also complained about the service, then meet another couple who like us were feeling like we had been duped into booking such a bad hotel. Warning don’t even bother asking for a tea bag at 10.31am cause breakfast is over and they will not even answer your questions because it 's 1 min pass breakfast cut off time.
It is not situated anywhere near the sites/ City and I strongly recommend that you stay somewhere closer to Prague 1 because it cost about the same and give this place a miss!!!!
Oh don’t forget to validate your metro tickets even though there’s nothing in English to tell you where! you will get an on the spot fine and its what ever they feel like charging (800kc)
Prague is a lovely city the only thing that let it down for us and the tourist we meet was the people and service be warned it not as cheap as they make out!! they have caught on and will charge you double what they do the local oh well all the best for your trip! Make your own fun!
