Andel's Hotel

This hotel was ultra modern in design and from the exterior it looked like it was constructed of glass. If you wanted to spend most of your break in the room then the Andels Hotel was faultless but our visit was for sightseeing.
The hotel was located in the newer part of Prague in a the business area and it was a metro ride to the attractions of Prague. You could walk but it was a slog.
Breakfast and the bar were very expensive and looking at the hotel it had no individuality at all, it was like many modern upmarket hotels in all major cities in the world. The staff were efficient but had a plastic approach. Having looked around Prague we could have found far better value for money accommodation elsewhere in the city and more importantly it would have been centrally located.
Prague is an interesting a diverse city with the tourist sites fairly compactly positioned so it best explored on foot. Do not miss the Jewish quarter, Prague Castle, The Funicular railway and the Eiffel Tower replica. It is also worth taking a river trip and going to one of the classical concerts. We also went to one of the many Jazz clubs in the centre and thoroughly enjoyed the music.
Eating out can vary but for best value steer clear of the main square and you will find some authentic and reasonably price restaurants in many of the side streets. You must try the dumplings whilst you are here. If you eat in the main tourist spots around the Old Square expect to pay 40% more for your food and it was not as good as the not so touristy eateries.

Overall we were disappointed with Andel's Hotel. It was situated a metro journey away from the tourist area in a nondescript area, and quite honestly in was a characterless modern hotel. If you wanted to walk it was a disinteresting hike. It looked like a "Glass Palace" You could have been staying anywhere in the world. The rooms were fantastic and if this is your priority then it would be difficult to beat. But when on a city sightseeing trip you spend very little time in your rooms and therefore do not get full benefit from this aspect.
The staff were ultra efficient but had been programmed and lacked any personality. Breakfast which was not included was very expensive as was the bar. We thought considering how much we paid it was poor value for money. A good percentage of the guests staying here were business travellers on expenses.
We will undoubtedly return to Prague again as it was a fascinating city with lots of interesting buildings. Andel's Hotel was not one of these and next time we will look for a more traditional hotel nearer the city centre. We can see why it got its high star rating but in our opinion it is more suited to business travellers than tourists.
One tip avoid using the taxis in Prague as a lot of them rip you off and there is a good public transport system with the trams and metro.

Having been to Prague previously, I was already aware of some of Prague’s pitfalls - not a smiley bunch of people really are they!!!! However, the city is a great short break and is full of beautiful buildings.
We stayed at Andel's Hotel and was glad to be out of the main tourist centre as it made a nice change, the bars were full of locals and beer much cheaper than in the centre. The walk from the centre isn’t too bad either - we found some nice little bars along the way to break it up a little!
Andel’s was a pleasant hotel - modern and airy, although there was some building works to the rear of the building (were our room was) and it went on all weekend! We also had some English money stolen from a bag that was in the room - perhaps our own fault for leaving it there in the first place, but nevertheless, you do not expect hotel staff to go through your personal belongings. I complained to the management of the hotel and they very kindly refunded the money.

Being the Capital City of the Czech Republic, Prague is steeped with history and culture. It is evident on every walk way and every square you visit.
With Prague’s inhabitants of over 10 million, everybody has there own story to tell and depending on which area of Prague you are in the stories change dramatically.
The Old town is truly beautiful with Gothic architecture at every turn. It is full of religious monuments and of course not forgetting the Town Hall. One of the most recognisable items of Prague is the Clock, which appears on the Town Hall. Originally installed in 1410, the clock was rebuilt by the Master Hanus in 1490. It consists of three parts – the procession of Apostles, the astronomical clock and the calendar. The main attraction is the hourly procession of the 12 Apostles where crowds of people sit and stare and what can only be described as a magical moment in Time.
Whilst in the Jewish quarter you will here stories of pain and suffering but how everybody pulled together as a community, tales of unity and trust.
Prague New Town, even though it was founded in 1348 is the hustle and bustle of modern day Prague. it is twice the size of the Old Town. Welceslas Square is the centre of the New Town surrounded by shops, cinemas, office blocks, hotels, restaurants and cafés. You can just sit and watch the world go by.
Sightseeing is Prague can be very invigorating with things to see and experience in every corner you turn. But one of the most breath taking views of Prague can be seen from the Charles Bridge. Named after the Emperor Charles IV in 19th century the Charles Bridge connects the Lesser Town with the Old Town. There are thirty statues on the bridge, many of them have been replaced with copies due to weathering. Originals are kept in the National Museum (well worth visiting). The magnificent Gothic Old Town Bridge Tower was designed by Petr Parler and built at the end of the 14th century. It is considered the finest Gothic tower in central Europe, mainly for its decoration.
No matter what time of year you visit Prague it truly is a beautiful city. Whether there be snow on Charles Bridge or glorious sunshine, you can’t help but feel totally at ease in a city that has so much to tell.

The Andels Hotel is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms were a good size with air con and satellite TV and the bathrooms were fabulous. All glass, limestone tiles, and power showers.
The reception staff spoke English and were helpful and pleasant, the breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. Try and get a room on the 5th floor there is a rather nice coffee area with free tea and coffee, somewhere to meet friends.
Andels is not really within walking distance of the main tourist attractions but the underground is around the corner seems to run every 5 minutes and costs pence. But watch your bags unfortunately thieves are prevalent on the underground and I fell victim to a pickpocket. The hotel has room safes so a good idea to leave most of your money there and only carry enough for your immediate needs.
If you prefer to stay around the hotel area there are plenty of nice bars and restaurants near by, had a delicious meal at Jet Set. There is a huge shopping Mall and cinema complex opposite and the hotel does have its own taxi service to take you into town or meet you at the airport.
If you want a cheap and cheerful hotel in the middle of things Andels is probably not for you but if you are looking for something a little classier you can’t go wrong with the Andels
