First adventure abroad as a family!!!
from love_our_holibobs
This was our first holiday abroad with our 3 year old daughter, and I can definately say from start to finish it was a great experience. We booked through Direct Holidays online service and got what I would consider to be a very reasonable price for the 1 weeks self catering stay at the Hawaii Torrenova Apartments. Both the flights out and return were with MyTravel and were on time if not a little early (very unusual!), my only complaint with the flights, was on the outward journey the crew were scandanavian and spoke very little english, even the drinks price lists were in a foreign language (strange for an english company). Otherwise the flights were quick and pleasant. The transfer to the accommodation took approx 30 minutes and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful upon arrival. We were allocated room 273 (definately one to request), which was of a good size for a 1 bedroomed apartment and has, like most of the apartments, the most amazing views. You have uninterupted views of the coast all the way round Palma Nova almost to Palma. The apartment was basic but very clean with maid service 6 days a week. (Take a can/bottle opener, the one in the apartment will chop your hand off before it opens a tin). There are 2 pools in the complex, which were freezing cold (refreshing I think somebody called it) The larger of the pools has 2 childrens sections which were perfect for our little one to play in and kept her amused most of the day. There were plenty of sun loungers and chairs and lots of room to spread out on the sun deck and around the pool. The pool bar was well stocked but expensive and the food was basic but ok for a quick snack. (pizzas, burgers, salads). The childrens play ground was a disappointment, just a slide and a broken swing. But they did have a small indoor soft play area which was ok. There was a hotel run kids clun for about an hour a day but we didnt use it. These apartments are on a gentle hill, definately would not recommend to anybody with walking difficulties, but we found it a nice walk to walk off the evening meals. It is a short walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. The beach is really nice and well looked after. Found some excellent restaurants, but most seem to be priced similarly to over here (gone are the days of eating out cheaply in SPAIN) Would recommend a visit to Poonam Curry House, if you come out of the apartments and turn right and then right again follow the road round past the entrance to the beach on the right and the trampolines on the left and Poonams is on the left. Most nights when we walked past it was empty, but it is one of the best curries I have ever had. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed our week and had some fantastic weather as well. Hope you enjoy your stay!!
Could have been much worse

We stayed at the Hawaii apartments in Sept 2006 and stayed for 1 week. Although we had been to Palma Nova twice before, (because the location and the beaches are fantastic!!!) this particular year we had to do it on a strict budget. We took a chance by booking an apartment through a UK online hotel operator in an area that we were familiar with (yes on that dreaded hill - but the exercise did us good!) The staff on arrival spoke very little English and initially appeared quite abrupt (despite me speaking a little Spanish, so it wasn't just ignorance on my part). Although we had asked for a sea view room on an upper floor (a bit much to ask on a budget price I know - but God loves a trier), we were given a pokey room, next to the roadside, with the tiniest patio window which offered merely a view of the employees entrance alleyway and adjacent hotel. Not happy as you can imagine! After being woken on our first night at 6.00am by the passing refuse truck (which took AGES to move on) and the constant 'yadda-yadda' of the arriving staff in the alleyway, one night in that room was enough! My boyfriend approached reception and asked if it was possible for us to move rooms and he was told that they could not move us until the next day at 2.00pm - so one more early awakening it was. The happy end to this story is that although neither of us had mentioned to reception the fact that we had requested the sea view on the initial booking, we were moved to an upper sea facing room with the most spectacular views of the bay. My boyfriend and I sat out on that balcony every night from then onwards, sometimes until the wee hours and subsequently had a very relaxing holiday. And the best thing was, no mosquitos!! So despite a pretty dreadful start, we ended up having a really great holiday and have booked to go to the Hotel Hawaii next door this year. Food ... would recommend: If you like BBQ food, try the Son Matias outdoor grill (walk on the promenade from 7.00pm onwards and just follow your nose). It's not the cheapest place to eat, but for something a bit special, the quality is fantastic (they do some brilliant set meal specials). And they have a good selection of reasonably priced wines too. El Mecca is also really good for either a quick snack, a coffee or a full meal. The staff have been there for donkey's years and are polite, couteous and very friendly. Food is fresh and reasonably priced. Try the fresh strawberries ... yummmmmm! We never ate in the apartment complex, so couldn't comment on that. Food ... steer clear of: The Chinese on the front. Quality very poor and not very good value for money. Entertainment ... Try Monroes for a Karaoke-Fest of a night, or for entertainment suitable for 'more mature' travellers, if you like live entertainment, the Son Matias Hotel allows non residents into their cabaret lounge each night after 9.00pm. Make sure that Tony looks after you!! Happy holidays !!

The hotel itself was suitable for our needs. Quiet location, central to both resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf and the staff were friendly. However, on arriving at the hotel (travelling independently) we were required to wait for our room to be prepared and cleaned for about 30 minutes. On closer inspection of our apartment we began to see that it had not been thoroughly or professionally cleaned despite the wait. The toilet had a sanitised plastic strip on it but was far from hygenically cleaned. There were long hairs around the chairs, behind the doors and in the bathroom from a previous occupancy! Under the sofas, beds, fridge and kitchenette area was litter, food remnants, dirt and dust! In fact, we found a receipt dated two month's previous. The bedspeads need to be laundered but at least the bed sheets were clean. The apartment generally once clean is suitable for a week's holiday but do choose half board as the restaurant next door at the Hotel Hawaii was of a very high standard. Also, despite being a buffet service the food was always piping hot with fresh meat being carved in front of you. Basically if this hotel was to give its housekeeping staff some more training it would warrant a higher star rating but hopefully not so as to put up the cost of staying here.

I booked this hotel for me and 14 friends to celebrate by 30th. After reading some of the reviews I was slightly worried, but as soon as I arrived I was glad I had booked the hotel. Rooms are standard but very clean and comfortable, what more do you want! Air Con is free with all rooms and is very good - when we were there it was 109 and still lovely and cold in the rooms!Bedding and towels changed everyday. TV is also free and has lots of channels including ITV2 & BBC1, safety depsoit box was 12 euros for 4 days. Majority of rooms have excellent views over the sea, I have never stayed in a hotel with such good views at such a low price. It has 2 pools and plenty of sun beds, along with pool bar which also sells ok snacks. I heard nothing of any rooms bein broken into and staff were very helpful. We went as a group of girls but it was mainly families, and with this they offer kids clubs, activities and play ground. Location in excellent, Ideal for a lively/tacky night in Magaluf and then a very short short to beach and quieter Palma Nova. Ruby Tuesdays is great for food, very cheap good food and large sizes as well as very friendly staff - turn right out of hotel and follow rd to beach and it is 5 min walk on your left. We went for a lovely meal at Ciro's at Palma Nova, about 30min walk just passed Mac Donalds - View over sea amazing, amazing food and friendly staff. 2 course meal with wine was around 30 euros. All in all a great hotel and would definatly go back.
loved the views

just returned from the apartments had a fantastic holiday. we had a studio apartment (395) with views looking over the bay. the room has no direct sunlight onto the balcony, which was a blessing as it was red hot.we booked half board and you take your meals at the hotel next door, please note there is no dress code so men dont need pants and shirts.the evening meals were ok but didn't like breakfast so just had toast in room. walking down hill to pubs, palma nova and magaluf, is ok but steep to walk up. we got taxi home from magaluf which cost just 3,50 €, well worth it. there is a adult only pool where you could still get a sunbed at 11.00 am. i would recomend these apartments to anyone. have a great holiday!!!!!!!!!!! debra from cumbria

Going away for the first time with five of my friends and staying here, all of which are 18 year olds, we paid aout £350.00 each at the end of June for a week with Direct Holidays. Upon arrival, about 12.00pm we got allocated to our rooms which were next door but one to each other, which was handy. One of the rooms locks was a bit funny and we went to reception to tell the staff of which none could understand a word of English. However we eventually got it working and the next morning told the day staff of which fixed it straight away. The rooms were clean, tidy and maids came in and changed sheets every day. The only nuisance regarding the rooms was there was a card that had to be used to both open the door, and inside the room to allow the lights to come on and the air conditioning. We found this annoying as of a night when we went out we needed the card to get back into the room, and found ourselves hot in bed after coming back in however we overcome this problem by of a night placing out debit cards and price tags off clothes in the slot to allow the air conditioning to remain on whilst we were out. The pool was clean and there was usually beds available. Most days we went to the nearest beach which was about a 2 minute walk down the hill. If you want a bed on the beach it is advised to go reasonably early otherwise you will have to resort to lilos and no shade. Prices were reasonable for the beds. Pedlo's were very cheap and a lot of fun! Did not eat in the hotel, as we were self catering. There was a small kitchen area which was hardly used, except for making toast in the morning (when we weren't too hungover) Our reps were good and organised us to go and see the Pirates show (which is a must when visiting Magaluf) however we didn't have the best seats after spending about £30 or £40 for a ticket. Was a really great show and the free food and sangria went down a treat. Also we visited one of the water parks, the one with the cowboy theme, which was a great day as it rained heavily all day so we never wasted a day of sunbathing but instead had the rides to ourselves as people went under cover??? We went to the same resteraunt every night just down the road from the hotel called the Blue Bar. Great staff, food and cocktails was nice eating there as it was at the very end of the strip and never got hassled to go into clubs walking down the strip. Another great place for food during a day in Magaluf was a small cafe on the front (of which cannot remember the name of) which sold fantastic chicken cobs for about 4 euros which was excellent as they were huge and a great cure for a hangover. BCM was an excellent night out, and must be visited a few times when holidaying in Magaluf. We regretted only going the once. Also Chaplins is an excellent bar giving out lots of freebees and having funny games early on in the night. This hotel is good for all ages as it is out of the busy night life enough to get a great night sleep, but only a few minutes walk into the centre. As for the hill, its meerly a steep incline, but not advisable for those who have trouble walking etc. For the younger people, it is not a problem as walking down is simple, and after a few drinks anything is simple! Me and my friends had an excellent time in Magaluf so if you are of a similar age then this is the place for you.
Basic but fab views

We have just returned from a fab half term holiday in the Hawwaii apartments. After reading the previous reviews i was dreading it but i think some of these people expect a champagne lifestyle for beer money. The room had a fabulous view of the bay and sitting on the balcony was a pleasure, the studio was basic but price warranted this and we spent the whole 7 days on the beach in 70+ degress of sunshine. The food and drinks in the snack bar was excellent and not expensive, best place for meals at night is the restaurant cafe bar El Mecca were we went every night for great food.
Great Location + view, decent quality 3* apartments
from Alan_Eg
Fantastic location between Palma Nova + Magaluf. Nearly everyone has a great un-interrupted seaview overlooking all of Palma Nova - for no additional 'sea view' supplement. Adjacent hotels had inferior views but wanted a good bit more money. Rooms decent (1 bedroom apartment ), clean, with air con, TV, Fridge, cooker, hot water, great powerful shower, + good maid service. Pool is in a great position - very clean + you can choose to sit / swim in either sun or shade. Entertainment a bit mixed from a dodgy Neil Diamond to Brazilian dancers, OK if you've nothing else to do. Kids club (Direct holidays) was really good for my 4 year old daughter who insisted on going to most of the sessions. The club room was a bit damp smelling but the reps were great with the kids. Biggest gripe - Safety deposit box a bit of a rip-off at aprox 50 euros. On the resort, Palma Nova has everything you need from a family beach holiday. If you are on a budget (3 of us went from Edinburgh for less than £1,000 for 14 nights - not a last minute deal), this is a great option in a great location. I would definately go back.

We arrived at the Hotel and loved every minute of it. Yes it is on a hill which isn't to steep. The pool is cold but plunge in and your fine. The location is amazing. As the hotel is sistered with the Wickiki and Hawaii Hotel (which has direct access to the beach) u are... more
