great hotel, but not 4*
from trisha987
Booked via online travel agent who stated this is a 4* hotel -which it certainly isn't. It;s a 3* at most. Rooms are large, very clean but basic. Small balconies, of which 50% are taken up by the air con units. Pool is lovely and there are plenty of sunbeds to be had. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly (except for one older barman who shortchanged our 11 year old daughter and after we'd mentioned this to him he made sure both our kids were always kept waiting when they went for drinks, ice creams etc, very petty!!). We were 'all-inclusive' but not all ice's or drinks were included but there was such a good selection there was always something different to try. The food was excellent but we found it best to eat earlier as some of the trays weren't refilled nearer to the end of the set times. There was a lot of choice, food was well presented and it wasn't the normal 'free for all' we've experienced at other hotels. drinks were by table service and staff encouraged some formality at mealtimes. The entertainers were TERRIBLE! the female in particular. They both turned up late, appeared to be hungover on several occassions, were rude to guests (in an attempt at humour), ignored the kids and hung around the pool and bar with the 20 somethings flirting and drinking. The programme (such as it was) didn't vary from day to day and they had a pool game, volleyball or water polo every afternoon which hogged the pool but they didn't include the younger kids even if they tried to join in. the hotel is located just 10 minutes (walk) from the main street and 20 minutes (walk) from the beach. There are some lovely little coves around the main area. The free show at the Cleopatra is great - but drinks very expensive (5 euro's a drink). overall we had a great holiday and would return to the hotel but wouldn't pay 4* prices.
Not very nice.

When we originally booked this Hotel we were led to beleive that it was a 4 Star property. This is not the case, at best it's a very poor 3 Star hotel. The package we booked was All Inclusive - this was a big mistake. The food at this property is terrible, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are all buffet style and as a result most of the food is cold within 30 minutes - if food runs out it is sometimes not replaced, you need to get there early for your best chance of getting something hot. You will also find that some of the leftover food from Lunch is thrown into recipes for evening meals or simply reheated the vegetables being one example. In short the food was terrible and we ate out 8 of the 14 nights we stayed there. All inclusive snacks are also a joke. There is a small room next to the pool bar where food will be left for hours on end - i kid you not, hotdogs, baked potatoes baked beans, chips and salad. Nothing is prepared fresh - leftovers from breakfast are used to make toasties and could sit there for 3 hours or more. Dried up lacking taste and after a couple of hours attacked by ants. All Inclusive drinks. Beer and spirits are watered down - as a result everything tastes very poor. Fruit juices and soft drinks - yes you've guessed it watered down. Water not included you have to pay for it. Ice cream for the kids is also of a very poor quality. The hotel rooms are in a terrible state. Broken tiles, old furniture etc, this place really has seen better days. The maids did clean the apartment every day Monday to Friday and once at the weekend, this made little difference though the place was still dirty and past it's sell by date. The ants in the room would return a few hours after the room had been serviced - be warned there are a lot of them. The night porter was fired the day after we arrived having admitted to stealing a guests purse from her room. Our air conditioning did not work for two days, despite our having to pay a local charge of 20 euro for it's use. The pool was not cleaned once during our whole two week stay. In the morning the patio area around the pool would be hosed down with the Fire hose which was trailed through the hotel to the pool - the water ran straight into the pool! The pool got so dirty that we stopped using it, you could actually feel the dirt on the soles of your feet if you tried to walk in the pool. Our daughter cut her foot on a cracked tile at the shallow end of the pool - she is only 3. If you want to stay in 2 Star hotel with terrible food, dirty pool, watered down drinks and dirty bedrooms then this is the place foryou.
Great Value

Had a late booking and as we had visited Protaras before, wanted to go there again. The Artemis was just what we needed! The place was clean, rooms large (for two of us) and the food and pool area were great. The food had lots of selection for all tastes ( loved the low down serving table for kids with chips, fish fingers etc) and enjoyed every meal we had there. The place did look a bit "tired" in places but was great value for money. The staff could not have been friendlier and nothing was too much trouble from the recption, bars and restaurant. The entertainment every day was good and we felt like part of the "Artemis Family". There was internet access from 2 PC's in the recption area. If you go make sure you hire a scooter from accross the road ( to the left). We will definately be going again. Give Costas our regards at the bar!
Best ever holiday

Fantastic hotel Spotless, Staff were fun and polite. Loads of sunbeds avalible pool was great, nice and warm plus very clean .Went all inc. Food was lovely, always something differant. Snacks went on all day right up till midnight never went hungry. BUT the best part for me and my friend was the entertainment crew. Steve heather tom and chico, Especially Steve. He made the holiday fun , got every one joining in the daily activities.done a great night every evening plenty to see in shows and disco's. but these guys worked hard all day then midnight if you were still up they would take you out and give you a tour of the town take you to the best spots. It was fantastic. Steve is a real funny guy. lovely person. He had everyone in laughter all hte time. Its only a 5 minute walk into town, but you do have a supermarket over the road. Would recomend a night at the sphinx thou. Entertainment crew took us there, and what a great nite we had.

Well we got there about 5am so it seemed ok at first as i just wanted to get to bed!! The food was not too bad though not much choice and the deserts werent really my cup of tea for too sweet not enough fruit etc. The main bug bear for me was the lack of sunbeds everyday people would come down at like 5 or 6am to put out their towels there were not enough beds at all it was stressful every day one day my husband couldnt stand the moaning he got from me and got up at the crack of dawn too!! I complained on many occasion but it fell on deaf ears it was just ridiculas how little of these deck chairs there were! The entertainment was ok I suppose but when you are there for a fortnight you are getting really fed up of the quiz and the bingo EVERY night!! The drinks were not good they were really watered down. The staff were ok and the room was clean but the location was not that good either it was quite a walk to the beach and the main town of Protaras though on the plus point the walk was nice with a couple of bars on the way. Im sure this hotel might appeal to some but for me well I wont be going again!
We had a great time
from msunique
We stayed at the Artemis In October 2006, We are a family of 4 and the children are 6 & 9. We found the rooms to be a little basic but as someone else said we were hardly in it apart from to sleep and to get changed, so it was fine, We got the air conditioning for free in the bedroom but we had to pay for the living room, it was only a few pounds so it wasn't too bad. The hotel staff were very friendly, but we wern't impressed with the entertainment even though the girls from One Stop entertainment were lovely, they had rubbish equipment to work with the speakers, microphone etc kept breaking down. We were a little dissapointed that we had to pay for the kids club, they had about 2hrs in the day for free and anything else we had to pay but they didn't really do much with the kids apart from take them down to the kids club room which was downstairs and had no windows. They had a few games etc but I wasn't impressed as they didn't do lots of fun things with them just drawing, a chocolate challenge and watching tv. Luckily the kids made lots of friends and had more fun NOT going to the club. The weather was nice not too hot but we did have a couple of days when it was cloudy but we used these days to explore the island. The food here was good but it was samey by the end of the 2 weeks and the snak bar had spaghetti bolognaise every day which no one touced but they still kept putting it out rather than changing it for something people liked. No one had ear infections from the pool when we were there (well not that I heard about anyway) The tables were always cleared on a regular basis and there were plenty of sunbeds around the pool. (maybe because we didn't go in the middle of the summer) We met loads of people here and had a really good time, so much so we are trying to plan a reunion next year. A holiday is what YOU make it, I hope this helps you if you are planning to goto the Artemis.
two star on a good day

£2500 for two weeks, 2 adults & 2 children all inclusive. You have to pay for air conditioning in room. Kids get grubby sofa bed, room not too clean, maids sit and chat in staff room all day, then you may get your bins emptied (sheets changed twice a week !!!) Cleaning standard poor. Lifts broke down every other day. Be prepared to wake at 6 am to fight over a sunbed by the pool (usually with an overweight welsh person grabbing 6-8 at a time for the family), easier to walk the 20 mins to the beach at 10 am to guarantee a sunbed easily. Pool dirty, i would say 75-85% of children/adults with cotton wool in ears due to ear infections from pool. GO TO BEACH. Empty cups all over the place, almost one per ant !. Snacks repeatative, food ok, restaurant staff friendly, bar staff not so child friendly. Reception staff cant be bothered attitude. General cleaning issues. Reps have ------ attitude, overpriced trips (cheaper by 50% to book down in Protaras town, eg day trip to Egypt through reps for 2 adult, 2 children £800, same in travel shop in town £350) Balcony to small and hot (air con units blowing on you) Shower fell off wall. Entertainment pathetic, even played Auld lang syne at 1 pm by pool, very boring evening entertainment by 'one stop entertainers' (one lasted 2 days before being sacked for being alcoholic !!!!!) 'one shot entertainers' more like. Drives you away from hotel in evening. Drove us and many others mad, but for some reason some people are easy pleased. (Mmmmm low I.Q. perhaps) People queing to complain to reps when the bothered to turn up but nothing ever changed. Seen people Taking samples from pool, tables, etc. cleaning untidy kids area, jet washing, cleaning pool side last few days, however all a bit late for me & why, were they hiding a dangerous problem from us all ???? Spent similar for 2 weeks in caribbean,no comparison Weather was fantastic, locals fantastic, Protaras waterpark was great day out. Cyprus Great place to visit, definately go back but not the Artemis, no way and not with Airtours, keep away
Worst holiday ever
from Devonians
Whitting Family, Devon. On arrival in the early hours of the morning, our room had not been cleaned, and my partner had to go down to reception three times to arrange and pay for the air-conditioning to be activated because the room was too hot for our little girl to sleep. The room was small and dated, the two girls had to sleep together on one sofa bed which pulled out, which was grubby and not what we expected. We asked several times for our kitchen and fridge to be cleaned but this never happened all week. Fresh towels we had about twice during the week. The dust in the corners of the rooms remained there all week. The balcony had only two chairs and a table, there was no room because it was taken up by the huge air conditioning unit which produced so much heat you could not sit there and enjoy the view anyway. While we were there there were several accidents around the pool, resulting in hospitalization for guests, one gentleman broke his leg, and a boy slipped cutting his foot open and had to remain out of the water all of the time we were there. The pool on several occasions had glass in it, due to the activity of teenagers during the night, which was unsupervised, we reported this to the staff but it was not vacated and nor cleaned. I told my daughters not to swim in it. We broke down in the lifts on several occasions and they just left them marked out of order. They were trying to make improvements whilst we were there, as official looking people kept walking around making notes and shaking their heads. However the entertainment staff were very nice and helpful, the restaurant staff and the food quality was excellent and if it had not been so then our holiday would have been really ruined. I have been to Cyprus five times and was really disappointed with this hotel, it was definately rated incorrectly and airtours were notified by us and our local travel agent on our return home.
best holiday ive ever been on!
from ljwWales
Board Basis was All Inclusive. booked with Airtours. Submitted By: Miss williams Overall id rate the hotel. 7/10 i stayed at this hotel last summer.and i have to say it was the best holiday ive ever had!! the rating ive made is for the hotel, but the overall holiday id give 10/10. when we arrived at the hotel it was early hours of the morning, and 1st impressions from the outside were fantastic.but as we entered the hotel totally different story. it was very basic and in need of updating.we were also greated to find a lady complaining.but dont be put off.me and my brother sat down in reception and we were surrounded by other teenagers.we were made to feel very welcome and although the hotel wasnt at high standard for the money paid, the people were brilliant.in the day the hotel was a totally different place, swarming with people, upbeat atmosphere and poeple clearly in high spirits, enjoying their holiday. you need to have a good look round the hotel to appreciate what it has.it does have a gym although basic, washing facilities for clothes, and an indoor pool and sauna. the area around the pool wasnt all that big. there wasnt enough sunbeds for the amount of people in the hotel.to be in with a chance of getting a sunbed, you had to be up at 6am to put a towel out.but this was stopped half way through our holiday due to notices put up round the hotel-the staff were permitted to throw towels form non used sunbeds into the swimming pool. If this puts you off however, the beach is beautifull. just 15 minutes away of the towns centre strip,(where youll also find a mc donalds!)clear, warm water, a lovely sretch of sand on the two beaches, flamingo beach and fig tree bay.they are only seperated by a slight cove.not forgetting they are blue flag beaches. there is also a wide range of watersports to try out from banana boats to hovercrafts.about £5 a go but all good fun.theres also a chance to hire a speed boat, prices go up according to how long you hire it for. the hotel was lively in the day..perfect for children and teenagers. they played music around the pool(starting around half 10/11 in the mornings)which ive noticed some people have complained about..but this is a family hotel and the music played does cater for all tastes. in the mornings the reps did a 'water aerobics' class..all ages joined in, singing and dancing to the cheesy but fun airtours songs!! guaranteed that you'll still be singing them when you get home! there were different quizes to take part in, on various days and there were some good group excursions for the teenagers.i didnt go on one, although my brother did..he went to a beach bbq, where it gave him a chance to meet other people from this hotel and oter hotels. the food was great.lots of variety and various themes.theres also a bbq night which is nice wher you can eat outside.but the same as any all inclusive hotel after 2weeks the food does get abit 'samey'. theres chips all day everyday.hot dogs, ice cream and mini pitta bread and salad as snacks.great for kids.but for breakfast, lunch and supper youre seated in the buffet style 'help yourself' restaurant. the drinks in the all inclusive had a good variety.the cocktails were lush!..which leads to one of the bar men.great character..he never seemed to be happy or smile, always grumpy but once you have a laugh with him hes alright!so give him a chance! there are afew shops dotted outside the hotel where i recomend you buy bottled water and keep them in the fridge in you room. the shop sells snacks like crisps and chocolate and bottles of alcohol if you fancy a change. the hotel rooms seemed clean but im not sure how often they were cleaned.im positive that at one point our room wasnt cleaned for 3days. but on holiday how often do you actually use your room?your out of it more than your in it. evening entertainment i didnt stay for,my dad,his girlfriend and two children aged 9 and 11 did.the children loved it as they made plenty of friends and the reps were good fun,but the adults got bored of it. there was an amazing group of teenagers on this holiday and there were lots of tears when they left.we took the 15 minute walk to protaras centre every night to the many bars and few nightclubs.fantastic atmosphere.very family friendly.the robin hood bar played wiked music if your age 13/14 onwards, and we made loads of friends here.you could leave your hotel on your own and know you would see so many people youd met out, also knowing your safe. if your staying in protaras youve got to visit ayia napa just to experience it. ive never seen anything like it.i cant wait to go back.just a 15,20 minute drive from protaras.although make sure you take enough money as the drinks and nightclubs are abit pricey. but definately worth it. weather was brilliant.one day temperatures did sour to late 40's.we were told at one point it reached 51 degrees.although this is very hot the island has a lovely breeze so it keeps of the extra heat. so dont be fooled and make sure your using a high factor sun cream.also in the nights temperatures didnt go lower than the 30's so its definately worth payin that bit extra for the air con in the hotel rooms. when we came home we were all a little sad and couldnt wait to book to go back, but as it happened prices were just ridiculous even for self catering,if your goin all inclusive you do get your moneys worth because you eat and drink more thn what you would if you were self catering, but goin all inclusive means your more sort of 'hotel bound' so if you dont want to spend the extra money on top of all inclusive you might want check out the hotels entertainment.so unfortunatly were not goin back this year.but anyone who is going there..you will have an excellent time :) i wish i was ging too!
we stayed at this hotel in September 2011 and stayed self catering. We have stayed in Protaras many times, and found this to be ideal for what we wanted. The hotel was clean and tidy, the staff we very helpful and friendly. The cleaners came around every day and always said... more
