the esmeralda appts are disgusting . wouldnt advise anyone to there for a holiday. 11 days me and my husband stopped and in that time had one sheet change, only because i went down to reception and said i would change them myself, same with the towels. but also had no air con in room so bed sheets were rank by the 8th day. to say it was a self catering holiday , you had to hire things like toasters etc , even hiring things down to a bath mat , ladders for bunk beds. there was a fuse box above the kids bunkbeds. you have to buy your own toilet roll. when we arrived to our room, we looked around and opened a door and wow , a kitchen., thought it was the wardrobe because it was more of a cupboard. had an infestation of dragon flies that nested in the wooden doors outside on the balcony. the patio door was very difficult to open and only had a little latch thing to lock it. when we did see the cleaners they left on the landing bin bags there and there was dirty tampax on the floor. we were disgusted. they play bingo . 16 euros a line and a free holiday to the esmeralda for a full house. did not dare play , we might of one. but when you speak to others around and they ask you were your staying , they laugh. it is a backpackers place. cannot understand how thomas cook came to owning this place as we do know that other tour operators have had it but declined them later on.

I had read the reviews prior to my trip to Cambrils and was not expecting much as there were a few comments about dated decor, along with the 2 star rating. I was however pleasantly surprised during my visit. The first thing I experienced was the warm and friendly welcome (along with the hot sunshine). The staff at the Esmeralda are very friendly and accomodating. They helped me on the first day with some of my unusual requests.
The Esmeralda room itself was very clean and comfortable. The studio apartments came with a well equiped kitchen, bathroom and spare bunk beds (ideal for a self catering family). I belive most of these have balconies which were equiped with a table and chairs and overlooked a quite back carpark with views of the sea nearby (50m). Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, the entertainment was very family resort style, I thought probably not to my liking or my sisters (27 and 18yrs), but actually I quite enjoyed the Buddy Holiday tribute act and kareoke evening! This is optional and most would head into Salou for an evening out, it also only goes from 9:30-11:30/12:00, so very quite from then on for those wanting a good nights sleep.
Overall I would recommend this to anyone wanting to visit Cambrils/ Salou, it is situated between both (Villa Fuertuny), but within walking or very cheap bus distance.

Fiance and I are not long back from Esmeralda, Crambrills.
Were both 23 years old and wanted a nice pieceful holiday and thats what we got.
At first it looked quite minging, old fashioned and tacky. but it was clean.
Room was old fashioned, had living space, wee kitchen and bathroom. We stayed the week and our bedding got changed once, which was ok, because back home we dont change our bed everyday like.
Air condtioning is getting up and started but we got it for free because of this.
You also have to take your own rubbish out, and change your towels on selected days.
Plus you also pay 50 euro deposit before you even check in, for potential damages. which was a bit of a dissapointment. As we had already payed for staying the week.
Beach is a two minute walk away, its a lovely beach, very clean and tidy, plenty of space to sunbath and swim!
The pool at the apartments was very very small, but we didnt use it at all.
They had enertainment every night, but we didnt go, we went out walks, got dinner and sat in the balony with a few drinks.
We got the bus to Tarragona to the water park, which was very simple, bus stop right out side the door, also went jet sking, and got pedlow boat for 12 euro for over an hour.Which was fun
Salou is quite a bit of a walk away for older people wanting to stay here, but keeps you fit after all the rubbish you eat on holiday.
Overall we had a great holiday and would defo come back to Crambrills, maybe to a more upgraded apartments with bigger swimming pool

As per other comments, yes ok the decor was a little dated, something easily rectified, but it was very clean. It was a wonderful holiday, and we have to say we are definately going back again. We were made to feel very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff we spoke to. Everybody was so friendly and made us feel very much at home.
Yes the food was only served until 6pm,unfortunately, because it was excellent, but, there were many restaurants very close by that were available after that time. The beach was a stones throw, bus stop directly outside, supermarket 50 yards, couldnt fault it.
So to all at the Esmeralda, as you said Susie, you are my sunshine. xxx see you soon .

Just got back from Esmerelda's. My friends won a freebee here, so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. Although the decor is very dated, the rooms are clean (although I would recommend you bring your own towels). Staff are extremely friendly and had a few drinks with us. The food isn't too bad here either. The pool is small, but ideal considering the size of the hotel, never a shortage of beds and is in the sun most of the day, there is also a nice breeze too.
I'm not sure of how much it would cost to stay here, but I would rate the rooms as a 2 star, but you pay for what you get. I would definitely stay here again. The beach is literally across the road and can be seen from some rooms. There is a railway line behind the hotel, but I didn't notice it much to be honest.

We have just got back home, after spending a lovely week at the Esmeralda Hotel. The rumours are true! the staff are really nice and helpful.
The only thing I would say is that they only served food up to 6.00pm. I'm not sure if this is due to the time of the year, however, there are lots of nice restaurants in the area, We really loved the Mucky Duck! Great Food and service.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone and look forward to staying there again in the near future!

before we even went to the hotel,we rang to confrim and there were most helpful we arranged with them to get pick up from reus airport. when we arrived the transport was outside as promised waiting for us.. the hotel was clean, our apartment was on the third floor over looking the pool and side entrance. were kinda especting the worse after reading some reviews before we left but we had a 2 bedroom with kitchen bathroom and sitting/dining area it was big and spacious.. the staff were msot helpful regarding day trips and how to get to and from hotel, the food was brillant. our group consisted of 4 different age groups going from 15-43 and all 4 of us enjoyd the entertainment, each night had a variety of music to suit all of us. brillant time was had by us all.. one dissappointed the time of year we went was oct and things were winding down..defo headin back in may ..

We had a good time here , the decore was right out of the 1970s but it was always clean and tidy , the staff made the holiday, they were all friendly and helpfull . The only thing i would want to improve would be for it to get air con installed . I think this is going to happen in the closed season , also our rep was one of the best we have had in in a long time thanks David . All in all this holiday was like going back in time when with hotel and staff .

Am not long back from a wonderful stay in these apartments and would recommend them to anyone thinking of travelling. The apartment complex is for all age groups. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. They can't do enough for you. The apartment itself was clean and well air conditioned (which was most helpful for the weather experienced in August). They're located close to a large supermarket, which stays open through siesta all the way til 9 / 10. There are some lovely restaurants nearby if you're not feeling like venturing too far. But only 45 mins (walking) either right or left are towns full of bars, restaurants and hopping night life. There are plenty of daytime activities to participate in nearby but if you're only there for the sunshine, there is a fabulous, although small, and clean pool at the front of the complex, and the beach is right across the street. If you're thinking of holidaying in Salou anytime soon, you need to check this place out!!!
