Submitted By: Mr A Non1) Hotel Reception staff - very helpful and nice to deal with; on arriving at our rooms, found that although we had two booked next to each other, they were apart. On returning to reception they chap refused to change the room until we pointed out that no-one was actually in the room adjoining the second room. Therefore sorted; two rooms next to each other as it should have been and problem sorted.
2) Restaurant - disappointing that the so called restaurant was a glorified canteen with a buffet run in the centre of the room. The buffet made an obvious split bewteen 'all inclusive' and 'half board'. The 'all inclusive' area was decked out using pink table cloths and 'half boarders' using the green table cloths. No real issue, just a fact. On the whole the 'food hall' (as you can't call it a restaurant) staff were good and the food was of good quality. It's a shame a majority of the people using the 'food hall' appear to lose their manners as soon as they enter the door. If it's busy, be ready for 'smash and grab' tacticts and various foods being mixed into adjacent bowls! For 'all inclusive' it's also worth bearing in mind that you are not meant to leave the 'food hall' with food or drinks. If you want a tea/coffee/cake in the afternoon, you will be ushered to the far end and crammed onto a small number of tables at the rear of the 'food hall'; you are not allowed to sit in the reception area on the nice comfy whicker chairs with the 'paying' guests and their drinks.
3) Pool bar and cafe area - The worst by far of all aspects of the hotel. This is the area that really let them down, purely due to staff and the way it was run. The first night was superb and there was one girl on the bar who remained outstanding throughout - I have to state that. The real thorn was an older, plumper, grey haired gentlemen who just simply didn't seem to take any pride in his job, let alone the customers who had paid to be there. We assumed he might be the manager of this area, but really couldn't get a lot out of him. The all inclusive menu for lunch time consists of: Cheese/Hamburger, Hotdog or a toasted cheese sandwich. Not much of a selection, but sufficient. If you paid you could have Pizza. If ordering drinks at the bar at lunch time (on all inclusive) you are told (even though it isn't mentioned anywhere else) that you have to stand at the back of the bar - basically so that you can't be seen. Note that if you pay for drinks you get them in a glass and they are stronger; if you take all inclusive drinks they are weaker and you get a plastic disposable. Noteable difference. And to finish this section, don't be suprised if you are made to feel like a second rate citizen - if you have an all inclusive band on, it seems you send a message "don't pay me any respect and don't be polite - I'm here all inclusive" and unfortunately that was the attitude of a majority of the staff in this area. The 'all inclusive' drinks are available from 10.30am until 22.30pm.
4) Room and house-keeping - the room was what you might expect for a 3-star; clean, tidy but worn and a little tired. There are no tea/coffee/cold drink facilities in the rooms. Bear in mind that if you are on holiday you are unlikely to spend a lot of time in there anyway. The bathroom was along the same lines, but most importantly, clean and not grotty. We were fortunate enough to be in C block; second tier, looking out across the pool area towards the reception. We had a nice balcony area to go out on if we wanted to. We cannot fault or say a bad word about the house-keeping staff. We had the same lady visit everyday and she was lovely and polite. She got a tip on the last day that we saw her as we really appreciated it. Superb job; definately had pride in what she was doing.
Other notes: (i) The lobby bar is not part of the 'all inclusive'. You will have to pay for drinks from this bar. (ii) The hotel does not have any WiFi access (if you need it!), however there are some kiosk-type machines purely for web-based e-mail, browsing and Messenger applications - you cannot download or view documentation, e-mail attachments or any files. (iii) If the tiles are wet, make sure you have good gripping shoes - it's very slippery! (iv) You receive a wrist band for 'all inclusive' - make it loose enough to slip off so that when you do go out or want to pay for a drink at the bar, you can do so without getting judged!
We found out while we were there from several separate sources that hotel is about to close. Apparently Dunas are moving to another location close by and the staff are going also. It would be good to link these reviews when anyone knows more since some of the feedback will be relevant. This does not provide an excuse for the pool bar area staff.
To round up: we enjoyed our holiday as we went out and made the most of the trip, but we were run down and put on downer, especially about the older, grey haired gentlemen (who was dubbed by many as 'the grey haired old b***ard') which was a real shame. We did not look for an all inclusive especially - it was all that was available, but to be treated in such a poor way was a really unpleasant suprise. We have brought our feedback forms home with us so that we can send direct to the Dunas Group - surely they want to put more of a professional image across and provide people with a comfortable 'non-competitive' environment? It shouldn't matter whether you are 'all inclusive' or 'half board' (or anything else) - you should all have the same treatment in our opinion. Don't be put off - this is simpy our take on the hotel that we stayed at - Gran Canaria and it's real people are fantastic and welcoming. There are lots of places to find off the tourist track; great places to eat and drink - make the most of it!

Cleaners were in every day. Restaurante was very clean and efficient. A very wide selection of fresh food cooked to your own taste! varies every night a very large selection. also section for the children. Staff were very pleasent and polite and also very helpfull. Lots of entertainment throughout the night. 2.50 euros in a taxi to almost anywere close e.g beach, play de ingles. Also hotel provides a shuttle bus that is free everyday which goes straight to the beach in maspalomes and runs at many of times. Hotel also provides courtesy rooms for you needs so no need to worry with a night flight home.
No downfalls to the hotel at all!
infact should be a 4 star not a 3 star
could reccomend to anyone!

Submitted By: Mrs C NuttallThe all inclusive was buffet style we went for New Year and the New Years Eve gala buffet was very nice. The food was plentiful but we did eat out on the last day for a change of scenery and the fact that the food became a little repetitive.
The pools are good with plenty of sun loungers for everyone. Our daughter is 4 so she spent most time in the baby pool but there is a nice slightly heated pool with slide and a huge main pool with jacuzzi, however these are quite cold therefore not many people brave enough to go in.
The hotel is in Sonnenland and therefore not much immediately on your doorstep however Maspalomas is beautiful just a few Euros in a taxi.
If you are taking children Holiday World is a must, again just a few Euros in a taxi or you can walk less than 15 minutes down the road, the rides are fun and not expensive. We paid 15 Euros, this gets you 40 points and most rides are 3 points the points card also lasts a month.
We enjoyed this holiday and would recommend the hotel for the price paid. We were told that it is due to be refurbished in Feb. so hopefully it will be even better for you.
Go with an open mind and enjoy.

Submitted By: Mrs G BrownWhat we found was a spotlessly clean hotel, with beautiful pools, plenty of sunloungers and excellent food.
We can't understand why this hotel isn't 4 stars.
The food was excellent, with a very varied selection. This is the first all inclusive hotel where we can say that we enjoyed every meal. The only down side was that it wasn't very warm, but then they never are when you are all inclusive from our experience.
The pools and pool area are very clean. The main pool isn't heated was a bit too cold to use, but the kids pool and the other smaller pool are. The jacuzzi isn't heated which was a bit disappointing.
The all inclusive ends at 10.30 on the dot, but if you get a few in before that it's not really a problem.
The only slight niggle is that they could do with a fridge in the rooms, just to keep your own drinks cool as you can't get a drink in the hotel until 8.00am.
Other than that we had a fab time and would recommend it to anyone.

Submitted By: Ms V RosénThe hotel was what we expected with great staff. We have two small children and the staff (especially in the restaurant) was very kind and loving towards our children!
The food is buffet style (of course) and it was good. A chef was each night serving meat or fish at the grill. Really nice salad and fruit and the cakes was not so bad. Breakfast was English and German style! Mostly British Germans and also Spanish guests at the hotel.
The afternoon tea was our daughters favourite! Unfortunately the lunch in the restaurant and snacks at the bar was served at the same time, between 1 and 3.
The pool was not heated as I thought it should be.
We can definitely recommend the hotel!!

Submitted By: Mrs S GrahamApproaching the hotel I have to say it looked very welcoming in the dark with its lights on and palm trees swaying. Reception was no less impressive, friendly staff soon had us checked in and suggested we take our cases to our rooms then come back to have a light cold supper, which was set out for us. So off we set off to find our room (a hotel map would have been handy, though once used to the layout it isn't difficult to get around).
We had requested a room that looked over the pool and was also on a high floor and that's what we got. The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom was also of a good standard.
The balcony was furnished with a table and chairs, only drawback here was the outside light which was centrally controlled.
The room was cleaned 5 times in the week we were there, sheets and towels changed twice.
There is noise from the pool bar and the disco but the room doors do a good job of blocking out most of the sound.
The pool area is ok, plenty of sunbeds which are roped off until nine o'clock to prevent people from reserving them. Pool and jacuzzi very cold though, not heated. There is also a separate child pool.
The food was fine. Again I read many reviews of cold, uninteresting food but we did not find this was the case.
There were a couple of times it got really busy so that finding a table could be difficult but we always managed. The staff did keep a section of the restaurant cordoned off and I can only guess that is because the hotel was not at full capacity. That said, the staff always helped those having difficulty finding a table.
The usual order for the food was - soup, salad, a variety of meat dishes and usually fish. I had a wonderful steak and lemon sole while there and my husband said the pork chops were very nice too.
Probably if anywhere the desserts were a bit of a letdown. Quite repetitive, ice cream, cream, jelly, and cake - every mealtime.
If anything the bars were the main gripe.
As an all inclusive customer I have already paid for my food and drink but was made to feel that I was asking for free drinks at the bar. Drinks were also served in either plastic or paper cups, and some of the staff weren't particularly friendly.
Paying customers definitely got the better service at the bar (and drinks in a proper glass) I can only guess that's due to tipping.
I have done all inclusive before so am used to 'the rules' but felt they were a little rigid in the timings here - AI drinks stop at 10.30pm.
We always managed to take the drinks where ever we wanted though, the disco, our rooms, & poolside.
Entertainment was a bit of a joke - they did try but they are just kids, not professionals.
As my husband and I had no children in tow it didn't bother us - we made our own entertainment but I think those with small children could find it hard work entertaining them.
There is a free bus service to and from the beach which in the heat and with children is probably a good idea. If you go to the beach with children remember to watch out for the nudist/gay bit.
For those of you who like to walk it will take around 45 mins. It's a fairly straight road though you do have to cross a busy motorway - we managed this twice and enjoyed it both times. The bank isn't all that bad to come back up.
I can also recommend walking to the local market it takes about 15 minutes. You go through a local landscaped park to get there which is very pretty.
The walk to Playa del Ingles will take around 1 hour from the lighthouse.
All in all we had a good holiday after being fairy apprehensive.

Submitted By: Mrs M SpierPlus's -
Food was good standard and variety
All staff were polite and helpful
Room was basic but comfortable (all you expect on an all inclusive)
Room was cleaned regularly
Pool was beautiful - surroundings were clean and tidy
Free bus to the beach - very prompt
Our daughter was ill one morning at 0400hrs and the night reception man was lovely, he sorted out the doctor, taxi and getting the medication for us.
Minus's
Limited amount of entertainment - no good for teenagers
If you go out for the day there is no pack-up facility - this meant people were making their own pack-ups in the restaurant at breakfast time!
Pool bar is only bar you can get all inc drinks from - apart from 2130-2230 you can get them from the disco/entertainment bar, however the evening entertainment didn’t start until 2230hrs, which meant there was a mad rush for the bar at 2220!!
The hotel is very multicultural, particularly, German, Scandinavian, Italian, and Spanish, we were definitely in the minority, but we didn't encounter any problems relating to this.
The tariff is both half board and all inclusive and you do feel a bit like a poor cousin with your wristband on and getting drinks for free, but maybe that’s just me!
Yes we did go out some nights but when you are all inclusive for a fortnight you would go stir crazy if you stayed in one place. I would recommend this hotel, but not for teenagers.

Submitted By: Mr C TurnerFirstly for anyone that hasn't been to the island before, I wouldn't bother booking a car or transfer from the airport - a taxi from the airport to Maspalomas is around 35Euros and from the hotel to the beach is 3.50 to 4.50 Euros depending upon the time. The Taxis are available from outside the airport and are always plentiful and generally very helpful.
The Hotel itself has good points and not so good points, firstly the good :-
The pools are great and clean ( although do get very busy at weekends with the locals )and the pool bar is quite well managed with a queuing system for drinks - this stops people hogging the bar. The pool area is roped off over night and not opened to 9am in the morning - this stops people hogging the sunbeds and avoids the need to set your alarm early just to get a sunbed.
Pool towels are available for hire from reception too - 10 Euro deposit and 1Euro a day - this means that you can get a new one each day avoiding carrying heavy towels in your luggage.
The food is ok - not by any means great - but all inclusive standard, there are a couple of "feature evenings" a week where the food is different to the norm, I would suggest that you have a few evenings eating out in the town - get a cab to the lighthouse and walk along the front - the 19th hole is great and we had drinks and food for under £60!
The not so good points are as follows :-
Our biggest gripe is about the All inclusive tag - yes drinks are available from 10.30am but finish at 10.30pm - this is only from the pool bar and the entertainment normally starts when the all inclusive finishes - therefore basically making you pay to see the shows !!
The room was small and quite hot as there is no aircon - however a fan is available for hire from reception. Also beware that the nightclub is in block F - if you have the rooms straight above then I should imagine it could be quite loud. We stayed in F305 which basically is 2 floors above and facing the road - not a great sight but it was quiet with the doors closed.
There was also an issue with our last day - Our flight was at 4am and we from day1 wanted to extend our room as you have to be out of the room by 12pm - this is also when the all inclusive ends. They will not let you know if this is possible until your last day ! Why - who knows ! but that is the rule - therefore you do not know if you have a room until 9am of the last day of your stay - utterly ridiculous !
Maspalomas town or Meloneras is quite quiet - and if you at an age where you want a nice relaxing meal in good surroundings then it is fantastic - there is also an air conditioned shopping centre just along from the beach and restaurants catering for everything from nicnacs to designer clothing and perfumes.
If you require something more lively then go to playa del ingles - again around 4 Euros away from the hotel and has nightclubs and restaurants and LOADS of noisy fun pubs that are open till most of us get up - good luck!
All in all we enjoyed the holiday - could of been better but could have been much worse so if you have booked to go here - don't worry - and if you are thinking of going here then just take note of the above and you should have a good time too.

Submitted By: Miss M ClarkI booked this hotel last minute and the price I paid was fantastic for two weeks all-inclusive. The positives of this hotel was this:
ROOM: We had a pool view (requested), which was very modern and clean. The room was of good size and cleaned 5 days a week with fresh linen and towels daily.
POOL: There is one large (salt water pool), one decent size (fresh water pool), a kids pool and a jacuzzi for the adults. The pools and pool area is well maintained and cleaned every night. There are plenty of sun loungers to go around, however they are crammed in like sardines. If you want a good laugh get up early and watch all the germans race for a lounger... yes they do have a race and a whistle is blown to begin the race.
BAR: There is a pool bar that is for the all-inclusive, lobby bar for half board and a disco opened till 2 am and serves all-inclusive from 9:30pm till 10:30pm (this was during the entertainment). The only down side to the all-inclusive drink was that it finished at 10:30pm but we just ordered loads up and enjoyed the rest of our nite. Watch out for the cockroaches that come out at nite, only at the pool bar, not in the rooms. However they are harmless and the hotel is clean.
FOOD: Food was just your typical all-inclusive and there was always something you could eat. Plenty of steak (cooked in front of you) fish and pasta. There is always a themed buffet which mainly consisted of chinese, which was lovely. Staff were constantly re-placing the food, which made everything really fresh.
Entertainment: This was the only reason I gave the hotel a 8/10 as there is very little entertainment and the shows they do have are mostly in spanish. They have an hour of childrens games and this is usually followed by a parrot show, dancers etc. The entertainment is held in the disco hall and the all-inclusive is only available there for 1 hour, which is a bit of a con.
All in all my fiancé and I, really enjoyed ourselves at this hotel and would return in the future. Maybe not in July as it was too warm and there is no air-conditioning. You can hire air-con but it is 60 euros per week, which we thought was a bit steep.
Other than the lack of entertainment, air con and types of drink in the all-inclusive. This hotel looks and feels like a 5 star.
If you wish to go out with your hotel at night, which we did a lot after the all-inclusive finished. It is only 3.50 euros to Playa del Ingles, which has everything you need in it.

Submitted By: Miss B.h GrangerOn the way there we shared a small taxi thing with about ten other people and we were the last to get dropped off. All the other hotels admittedly looked more promising but when we got inside ours it was pleasant.
The only thing was that we had to lug our cases up a large flight of stairs to get out rooms and for some of the elderly people who arrived the next day it was difficult but we helped. Because we're awesome.
The food was ok but better on someday than other e.g. the pasta was nasty and the bread and salad were always very good.
We only ever left the hotel once to the nearest beach which we immediately regretted as it was disgusting but the market sold tasty yet expensive ice cream and there are some really nice clothes shops.
We met some Dutch Swiss and German people the majority of the hotel were German so we were a little disliked but we met a fantastic German family who we are still in touch with now so they're not all bad.
And there were a lot of blondes so that is always GREAT, well if you like blondes like me! We had a hilarious time with the entertainment staff and overall it was a very good holiday.
By the way the pools great but the smaller one was salty.

Submitted By: Ms CJ JonesThe 2 pools were gorgeously temperature one refreshingly cold and the other warm.
Maspalomas was a gorgeous quiet little place but not too quiet, and easily accessible to Playa del Ingles, a larger town. The views and character of Gran Canaria is spectacular!! And I do recommend taking a dolphin tour in Puerto Rica.
The food at the hotel of the evening was lovely with fresh salad and fruit as well as hot food and a few nights some Chinese!!
The breakfast was always just as good with a large range of fruit, rolls, pastries and egg and bacon etc.
" Amazing holiday! I'd advise anybody... "
Submitted By: Miss E WadsworthInternet access, shop, clean rooms, helpful staff, and good hotel.
The only thing is I did have trouble using the card to get in the room. It took me a few days to get the hang of it and we left the card in the room once but the staff gave us another one.
Although it sometimes may be a little cold (obviously because you’re up a hill) it's boiling on the beach!
Amazing pool! It was massive and the Jacuzzi was very relaxing! Free bus to the beach which was good.
A lot of stuff to do there. I recommend the camel ride. We went early and the 5 of us shared three camels to ourselves. We were lucky as there was a massive group after us who all went together.
The food was good. There was 'afternoon tea' as well for the true English holiday makers.
The evening entertaining was good and varied.
The poolside bar at night was really relaxing although there were quite a few cockroaches seen towards the end of my week stay but apart from that it was amazing!
Great holiday! There wasn’t any Germans when I went, end of may/beginning of June and it was pretty quiet then.

my 2 year old loved the childrens disco which started at 20.30 which in my opinion was a bit late, my poor disco boy still to this day asks to go to the disco! lol
i just want to mention the people around the pool (guests not staff!) were lovely! i met some fabulous people and it really made my holiday enjoyable. even though i would of enjoyed it anyway :) at then end of the day i got what i paid for and for 1 adult 2 children all incl for just over £800 i was a happy bunny.
