upon arrival disappointed with the original room but the staff were very helpful and stated that this would be rectified in the next 2 days.they were true to their word and both myself and my wife were very satisfied with the room overlooking the pool and able to sit on the balcolny sipping our gin and tonics.Great staff and extremely courteous and friendly.
Neglected and poorly managed - The Valentines Retreat does not deserve 2**s
from Andysar
We stayed at Valentines Retreat for eight nights, should have been fourteen but couldn't stand it any longer and moved to another 2** Hotel Casablanca Beach. Wish we had done it sooner as it was lovely. Prior to booking, we read the good reviews of other people and cannot understand how it can be rated as clean etc. There may be better rooms than the two we stayed in, but we saw no evidence of these. Our first room S10 was tiny, dirty and the balcony (about 3 foot square) overlooked a run down building and car park. A metal wardrobe with no shelf which was rusty and filthy inside and out. The bathroom was good size but again dirty, the shower curtain had obviously not been changed or cleaned for many months it was stained and covered in black mould. Not wanting to winge we set to and cleaned the bathroom any surfaces we might have to have immediate contact with but after a sleepless night caused by barking dogs and motor bikes coming and going, we asked for a move to a quieter room - no vacancies in the other side of the Hotel but we were given room S3 (bigger and larger balcony) and round the side. Again metal wardrobe but this one at least had a shelf, bathroom marginally cleaner but another filthy stained and black mould shower curtain we were promised that it would be changed (it wasn't) Again I set too and cleaned the bathroom but had to accept the sheets and towels that were worn, brown and stained. What we didn't realise that this room was directly above Reception and in full hearing range of the Cafe/bar across the road and still the motor bike/car park and the dogs. It was even noisier! The bar come dining room was more like a very cheap 'greasy spoon cafe' hot and full of smoke. The crockery was a mismatch of odd chipped cups and plates bearing clear evidence of the previous user. We ordered breakfast on two occasions and were served something liquid and warm in a dirty cup and two slices of warm bread that was allegedly toast served in a dirty basket. The Hotel must have been allocated its 2** many years ago and we have to disagree with the people who think that this is a good Hotel. It is neglected, poorly run and needs a good make over. We are well travelled in many Countries and can honestly say that this is the worst Hotel we have ever stayed in.

Just spent 2 weeks in the Valentines Retreat, the hotel is small and friendly...an excellent place for couples.... accommodation is clean with cable TV, fan, air conditioning and fridge(just watch out for the dreaded room G8).Beds are like concrete mind you!!!! No complaints about the staff who just like every Goan are the most friendly and helpful people going.Everyone has a smile on their face and will always go the extra mile for you in order to make your holiday special. The pool area is nice and relaxing, the garden by the pool is a great place to relax day and night and drink the local Honey Bee Brandy. Food is ok, but hey there are loads of restuarants to eat at, espcially the Mermaid and Sweet Chilli. See as much of Goa as you can, but dont use the Rep's who will rob you blind.... the Taxi drivers immediately outside the Valentines will take you anywhere you want to go for a fraction of the cost MUNA(Dave) the taxi driver is spot on eventhough he is a Man UTD fan!!!(He's the one with the Blue NY Baseball cap on)

Lovely Tea - Bad Food
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is located only 10mins from the beach which is really great. The breakfast contains a lovely cup of tea but the toast is a big let down. I wish they used cleaner cups and saucers at times they served in unclean mugs and glasses and old cutlery. Needs to improve their restaurant in terms of decor to enable us to have our meals in the hotel. In a double room, you get seperate beds put together... not a good idea for couples... wanting a cuddle..haa haa. Friendly staff. Not a bad place to spend 1-2 weeks.
Small but perfectly formed........

The hotel is fifteen mins walk to the beach being situated acros the main road and on the edge of Candolim. The rooms are basic but the air con is great. The shower room is big and the water was hot and plenty. The rooms are cleaned every day and the bedding and towels changed every day. The room I had was close to reception which was a bit noisy but if you want it just to sleep on at night then it was fine. Breakfast was two slices of otast , a small glass of oj and a hot frink which could have been either tea or coffe but no one really knew. Nice pool and small ground with a block at each end. The staff are really friendly and cheerful so go and stay. Promoted by Cosmos so more info on thier web page. I would stay there again but not near the recetion area. Enjoy. Perry - London - England
What a great place 2 stay
from mr_bigstar
I stayed in the Valentines Retreat in November 2004, and i found it to be a really good place to make a base for my first ever trip to Goa: The rooms are nice amd spacious and nicely decorated it also had 2 single beds that was pushed together to make a double a seperate bathroom with a w.c a sink and a shower. The service of the staff is very good from the room boys the restuarant and bar staff right up to the office staff they are very curteous at all times which i found pleasing. There is a nice sized swimming pool that is set in the grounds with plenty of sunloungers for you 2 read that book and top up your tan there is also a outside terrace with chairs and tables for you have a drink and to dine.
The Valentines Retreat Goa (1 of the best hotel in a Goa)
from adamski
Location The Valentines is situated within a short walk from the many bars and restaurants in the resort of candolim and a 10-15 min walk to the beach. Hotel Rooms The rooms are nice and well decorated they also come with air-conditioning , the room boys come to clean the rooms every day ( if you remember to put your keys in reception) and they come to change the sheets every couple of days. The Pool Area The pool area and all the grounds are always well maintained and the pool is cleaned every day and theres is a really shallow part for the kids. Staff The staff are very friendly and they will help you in any way they can to make your stay a good stay and that you will recommend the hotel to your friends

The Valentine's Retreat is in a great location with the golden sands of Candolim Beach less than 10 minutes' walk and the nearest shops on the main Candolim Road just a couple of minutes away. The rooms are in two blocks, one at each end of the swimming pool, which is surround by a small sun terrace and a beautifully maintained garden area with magnificent giant flowering creepers with a profusion of lilac flowers. There are several palm trees standing like sentries in front of one of the buildings with palm fronds swaying in the in the gentle breeze; a peaceful setting and perfect for late afternoon drinks on the balcony. The restaurant, 'Valentino's', has a rustic style and ambiance offering al fresco dining with a multi-cuisine menu. Limited room service and laundry service are also available. The studio rooms are compact but bright with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, satellite TV, minifridge and balcony. Safe deposit boxes are available at reception, payable locally. Accommodation is offered on bed and continental breakfast
