I normally stay in the Valentines Retreat whenever i go to Goa ( 6 times so far ) as i am on the 28th March to 12th April 2008 , Ive never found any thing wrong with the Hotel but reading the other reviews it sounds like its gone down hill , i really hope not cause i really like this Hotel its central 2 all the amenities and the rooms was clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are staying at this hotel let me know what you think of it . Check out moonlight gardens restuarant just down from the Valentines Retreat Trish & Das will make u welcome.

We had been to Goa many times, however, this hotel we found to be the worst . It was very dirty and although the staff were helpful and friendly.
The place needs a good scrub! They at first gave us a cell as a room which we refused to stay in. They then showed us another room which was near reception and where staff parked their motorbikes. We again refused as I had visions of been woken up in the early hours on there arrival to work. Third time luck(dirty but lucky) we got a room in the 2nd building overlooking the pool . The sheets and bed linen are in a poor state and needed a good wash. Please note we have been to Goa Many times, you spend very little time in the hotel , but we have always previously had clean hotels.
I could not recommend this hotel to anyone .

We stayed at Valentines Retreat for eight nights, should have been fourteen but couldn't stand it any longer and moved to another 2** Hotel Casablanca Beach. Wish we had done it sooner as it was lovely.
Prior to booking, we read the good reviews of other people and cannot understand how it can be rated as clean etc. There may be better rooms than the two we stayed in, but we saw no evidence of these. Our first room S10 was tiny, dirty and the balcony (about 3 foot square) overlooked a run down building and car park. A metal wardrobe with no shelf which was rusty and filthy inside and out.
The bathroom was good size but again dirty, the shower curtain had obviously not been changed or cleaned for many months it was stained and covered in black mould. Not wanting to whinge we set to and cleaned the bathroom any surfaces we might have to have immediate contact with but after a sleepless night caused by barking dogs and motor bikes coming and going, we asked for a move to a quieter room - no vacancies in the other side of the Hotel but we were given room S3 (bigger and larger balcony) and round the side.
Again metal wardrobe but this one at least had a shelf, bathroom marginally cleaner but another filthy stained and black mould shower curtain we were promised that it would be changed (it wasn't) Again I set too and cleaned the bathroom but had to accept the sheets and towels that were worn, brown and stained.
What we didn't realize that this room was directly above Reception and in full hearing range of the Cafe/bar across the road and still the motor bike/car park and the dogs. It was even noisier!
The bar come dining room was more like a very cheap 'greasy spoon cafe' hot and full of smoke. The crockery was a mismatch of odd chipped cups and plates bearing clear evidence of the previous user. We ordered breakfast on two occasions and were served something liquid and warm in a dirty cup and two slices of warm bread that was allegedly toast served in a dirty basket.
The Hotel must have been allocated its 2** many years ago and we have to disagree with the people who think that this is a good Hotel. It is neglected, poorly run and needs a good make over. We are well traveled in many Countries and can honestly say that this is the worst Hotel we have ever stayed in.
