Although the rooms were very basic...
8 / 10
Mar 2006, Mrs K Stringer

Although the rooms were very basic they were clean. The beds were changed every day along with the towels. The staff were very friendly and obliging.
The lane to the front of the hotel is very dirty but the hotel itself was fine. Yes there is howling dogs but none of which caused much of a problem. Building wasn't any problem and for most of the two weeks spent at the hotel I wasn't troubled by smoke or bonfires.
My only complaint was that the air-conditioning and the rotating fan were very noisy, which were reported but unfortunately never got rectified.

Hotel OK but in very poor location...
6 / 10
Mar 2006, Mr R Haworth

Hotel OK but in very poor location down a dirty track from the main street of the resort centre. Of the three main resorts in the area Calangute is by far the worst, it is a filthy place there is no other way to describe it.
Whoever is in charge of tourism needs a kick up the backside., the main street is a disgrace, Baga and Candolim have made an effort to make their areas presentable. Goa in general is a lovely place to spend time during our winter months and the locals are lovely.
I personally would visit North Goa again but it would have to be Candolim for my choice of resort.

I booked our holiday with Airtours....

I booked our holiday with Airtours. The package included Return Flights+3 Star Hotel. We made the booking under the impression that Silent Resort was situated 300 meters from the beach.
We received a letter 2 weeks before departure stating that there had been some slight changes with certain aspects of the location and it was in fact 1.5 kilometres from the beach. Airtours were very unhelpful in offering us any compensation for this inconvenience or for any explanation to why they still continue to sell the resort as 300 m from beach!
Very disappointed with Airtours but this did not put us off our holiday ....Silent Resort is everything you would expect from a 3 star in Goa. Room was very basic but was secure, hot shower, toilet, fridge, balcony, TV - all Premiership matches) and the sheets + towels were changed daily. The major building work is now complete and we didn’t hear anything.
Silent Resort is a friendly hotel with good food, pool side service etc. It is a shame that the hotel is situated down a unlit road overrun with dogs who are not very welcoming in the evening!

We been in the Silent Retreat Hotel -...

Feb 2006, Mrs A Koester

We been in the Silent Retreat Hotel - which is now called "The Grand" for 2 weeks! We had a superior room which was really nice!
With a front room (couch + TV + fridge), spacious bedroom (two single beds), large bathroom with bath and shower.
Room service, wakeup calls available.
The beach is about 1km away, but a taxi only costs 70 Rupees! Which is about 1 Pound!
The food in the hotel is very nice - though we preferred to go out because it's even cheaper and a better atmosphere.
We talked to other people who stayed in the Hotel and one couple stayed in a very basic room!!! So the hotel got different types of rooms - if you want to stay there make sure you will stay in a superior room like we did.
We enjoyed going to Little Italy (Italian Restaurant), The Multi Cuisine close to the standing man is nice! And for beaches we can recommend the Coco Beach!

Awful hotel. Brochure rating 3 star+...
2 / 10
Jan 2006, Mr R Newman

Awful hotel. Brochure rating 3 star+ but only worth 1 star. In brochure stated to be 300m from beach but actually 1500 m - first part along dirt track where we saw dead rat. First room was filthy and stank of mothballs - also overlooked building site next door.
Next room was better although still not very clean and smelled of damp and musty. Power cuts every day lasting from a few minutes to over an hour. Airtours wanted £564 to move us to another hotel of the same grade. In the end we found our own hotel and moved out for the last 2 weeks to Varmas Beach Resort in Calangute which was a lovely hotel costing £20 per night for a double room.
Silent Resort hotel completely spoilt the first week of our holiday. Of the other holidaymakers who arrived at the same time as us, more than half complained and were moved to other hotels.

Spent New year based at this hotel...
3 / 10
Jan 2006, Mrs P Brown

Spent New year based at this hotel although did not stay there for the celebrations even though they were included in the price.
Dropped of from airport on main road then another taxi took us down a very rough potholed track to the back of beyond to the silent resort. Initial impressions of hotel were ok , until we reached our room. It was clean enough but we looked out onto a building site and this was not mentioned to us prior to getting there. Being new year the hotel was full so moving rooms was not an option.
The noise from the building work began at 6am every morning and there were constant bonfires lit and the smoke was horrible, we couldn't us any of our balconies. In the Airtours brochure it states that the aircon. is included in the price, the hotel charged us 350 rupees per night. The aircon. units wiring appeared to be a botch job too.
In the Airtours brochure it also states the beach is 300 metres away, its not its 1.5 kilometres away, but Airtours did inform us of this and asked us to obtain receipts from the taxi drivers for each journey to and from the beach!!!! Indian taxi drivers do not even know what a receipt book is!! Hotel staff very friendly.

Silent resort is not silent BUILDING...
2 / 10
Jan 2006, darren1uk

Silent resort is not silent BUILDING work is on-going they are building more blocks next door. Calangute seems to be very busy now and the locals all seem to have dogs which bark all night long.
these dogs are now all over north Goa. We have now been 6 times and would not stay in Calangute again. Next time we will try Candolim and hope to get at least one good nights sleep.
