Spoiled Holiday
from Lanarkshire_Tourists
I went to this hotel in late August/early September 06 with my wife and child and another couple we know who also have a young child. The hotel was acceptable and food okay but our holiday was ruined by the wife of the other couple we were with constantly moaning. Her husband is a nice fella as is their baby son but the wifes attitude leaves a lot to be desired. Her rash decisions, notably with regard to eating outwith the hotel, caused constant friction. I can not really blame the hotel for this but the hotel will, in my mind, forever be linked to this disastrous holiday. Most of the staff at the hotel were very friendly with the notable exception of the big, dreary, tired looking bloke who worked in the main bar. He could perhaps do with brushing up on his people skills a bit or maybe just work in an alternative area which is not so customer orientated - perhaps janitorial duties would suit better. Still compared to our 'companion' he was a breath of fresh air. A nice touch by the hotel was to award the husband of the couple we were travelling with with an award for 'The Most Number of Trips up to the Buffet in the Space of One Week'. All in all not bad. If you want to go then go if not then go somewhere else.
Very old inside, very nice outside...
from Viandante
Theory the hotel is five stars, well... It's very old, like 25-30 years old, and you can feel it from almost verythingh in the rooms: towels, sun chairs, furnitures, floorboard, shower are just some examples which make you understand how is old. Helpful and friendly reception; the best part is certainly the pools area, with 3 pools with bar, a lot of gardens with palms and direct access to the beach; litlle but nice and efficient Spa with good staff. Foods, poor quality breakfast and dinner. The big mistake of the management i think was mix the all-inclusive guests with normal guests who pay extra for dinner, they eat all together in the same buffet restaurant, but as everybody who already traveled a little bit knows, the quality of foods and drinks in the all-inclusive restaurants is quite poor. There's an other luxury A la carte restaurant in the hotel, like the hotel broucher and Melia site said, which could be a nice solution, but of course it's closed, also in high season.
Nice hotel

Dispite being a short stay, my wife and I loved it. Staff was very friendly specially the reception one. We are usual clients of Melia hotels and we consider this one very well maintened considering the age, with personalised social areas, such as the lobby, the bar and the restaurant. Breakfast and dinner are very good served and presented, with music players. A beautiful swimming pool and a relaxing spa are the perfect complement.
Fantastic

My husband and I have been holidaying at the melia Tamarindos for the last 10 years. We love the hotel, it is fantastic in every aspect. As soon as we walk in we feel at home. We are treated really well. We always have a sea view. The food is just fantastic, you can have anything you want from the vast breakfast buffet and at night the evening buffet is just wonderful. Special evenings are great and the entertainment in the hotel is really good. The staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I would reccomend this hotel to everyone. We enjoy 2 weeks of relaxing by the wonderful pool every year in July. Roll on July 2007.
Would not return

What a shame this hotel is so remote. There was absolutely nowhere to walk outside the hotel other than on the beach. Decent enough service and superb food in main restaurant. The room was shabby and unimpressive and the balcony small by 5 star standards. Shame because we had a lovely sea view. The swimming area and main pool was excellent but it proved a struggle at Easter to find a sunbed after 11am. Nice Internet cabin by the pool with books to borrow and read. Small spa looked good but needed more facilities to really impress. Poolside restaurant was very uninspiring. Lack of any organised activities aside from the water aerobics and a decent kiddie club. Breakfast on the verandah was ruined by the sheeting draped over the sides of the verandah which ruined the effect completely. Some building work evident but then this ageing hotel is rather in need of a face lift. Very mature and pleasant grounds. Direct access to the beach. Piano and Harpist with dinner. Location was a major drawback for me. Not going back.
Excellent Hotel, well worth a visit!

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay in the Melia Tamarindos and had a very relaxing time. We almost cancelled our booking due to the sudden appearance of negative reviews relating to building work. Our worries were unfounded as although there was still building work going on, this did not disturb us in any way. The staff are very helpful and polite, the food at the buffet breakfast was excellent, the room was clean and comfortable and the pool area was nice and relaxing. We especially liked the astronomy session in the hotel's observatory - well worth a visit (and it's included). The full size bath sheets and choice of pillows added to the feeling of luxury. All in all a lovely holiday and we hope to return to the Melia Tamarindos soon.
An excellent holiday hotel for the mature person
from billyboy
This traditional hotel, built about 30 years ago, caters mainly for the more mature holidaymaker and has many guests who return year after year. Rooms (non smoking) are large, well equipped and comfortable and all have full bathrooms en suite. The main restaurant is mainly self service with numerous chefs preparing dishes to individual order, in addition to the impressive range of pre-prepared and attractively set out dishes. Quality is high and waiters (who bring drinks and clear away) are friendly and efficient, most having been there since the hotel opened! A harpist plays at breakfast and a pianist at dinner. The grounds are spacious and quite beautiful at all times of year and there is no shortage of sunbeds. The hotel boasts a Casino on the lower ground floor. This is not a hotel for those seeking bright lights and loud music but is one which offers comfort and tranquility.

My husband and I have just returned from the Hotel Tamarindos in Gran Canaria, I had the best time ever, the staff were all pleasant, nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent, they cooked most of your food fresh for you none of this stuff in sauces. We were all inclusive and the choice of drinks were very good, we are both whiskey drinkers and the choice was great. From the moment we arrived we felt like were treated like royalty I am going back to this hotel again in October but for 2 weeks this time. The people in the hotel we spoke to had been going to this hotel for years some of them over 25 years. Roll on October!!
The Worst Hotel We Have Ever Been
from gonzalo3
This 5 (????) maybe 2 starts hotel was dirty the rooms were very small and the climatized swiming pool was COLD. Is the worst hotel i ever been. Is not expensive but you can find 2 starts hotels cheaper than this Melia hotel.
Yes - building works!!!!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We too were affected by the building works mentioned in the last review - terrible to have that on holidays which are so important to us - make sure they are finished before you make a booking as the noise was continuous Monday to Friday. As they only seem to have done just two apartments on the 6th Floor and are planning on doing the whole floor the works will go on for a very long time. This policy is an insult to paying customers - go elsewhere!
We have not long been back from our honeymoon. This hotel is first class. We are going back next year. The food was excellant. Everything was very good. Only gave 9 but really should be 10 but only moan is that the hotel didn't show us our room. We were left to find room... more
