after only ever going 4/5 star holidays we took a gamble on stopping in this3 star accomodation.i can honestly say i have never been in any hotel on my travels where the staff were so amazing from the minute we arrived till recieving our packed lunch for the journey home i have nothing but admiration for all staff members. i now know why so many people return to this hotel it was my first visit but not my last i already looking to go back in jan 2010.the food is amazing not buffet but chosen from an extensive menu cooked for you.the clientel in the hotel were brilliant majority british but the older end there was a great atmosphere all around the hotel.paul , david ,and pritesh were amazingly nice has were all the staff .spent time at the big bannana shack on baga beach the food was lovely if any readers have any doubts about this place forget them you will have a great time.

Advice: go go go

" Hotel Santiago,

Well... "

Hotel Santiago,

Well what can i say apart from Brilliant

Had a fantatstic two weeks in this hotel made lots of friends here, everyone is really friendly from the minute we arrived, a special thankyou to Lawerence who always looked after us at meal times he was always ready to top your drinks up without having to ask.

Stayed at the sister hotel the Horizon this year, which is suppose to be a 3 star but does not compare to this hotel the staff are a lot better at the Santiago.

Will be coming back to the Santiago this year 2009 just booked and can not wait to see everybody agin.

Please do not hesitate to book this hotel, most hotels in India are very bassic but rooms are clean and the staff make up for everything in this hotel.

Have a brill time i no you will not be dissapointed.

" First time to Goa, stayed at the... "

First time to Goa, stayed at the Santiago it was brilliant, the staff were amazing and made our holiday special.

The rooms were kept spotless and nothing was too much trouble for anyone of the members of staff. The food at the hotel was excellent and a good choice was served.

We cannot thank the staff enough for making our stay at the Santiago so good that on our return to England we booked again the next day for Christmas and new year 2008/2009 The trips to the Waterfalls is well worth a visit also the coach/boat trip to Old Goa and Pajim the tour guides were excellent, we also went on the trip which took us into the jungle to stay with the elephants this was fantastic, an experience that will never be forgotten.

Our rep Simi was lovely and she made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our holiday, and she even called us to wish us happy new year, The Christmas celebrations in the hotel was good it’s something else seeing Father Christmas arrive on a push bike.

Overall had a great time and we can’t wait to go back, just to say a big thank you to all the staff. From Paul and Julie.

" We have just had the most wonderful... "

We have just had the most wonderful two weeks in Calangute based at the Hotel Santiago.

I would echo the comments of fellow residents in saying that the staff (although they all become friends) are the shining star of this relaxing and laid back hotel.

The rooms are spotless because they are serviced daily.

Food is excellent, as other have commented you can get most styles here, Goan, English, (why?) Thai, Chinese. The chef in the Chinese gracefully swapped skills as we showed him how to make Irish coffees and he let us into the kitchen to make banana toffee coated rolls.

Without doubt, I will certainly aim to get to this hotel again.

I understand that the return rate is 98.7%, I can easily understand why.

A very safe place to rest too as the entrance has 24 Hr concierge.

Hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

" Although you could not fault the... "

Although you could not fault the staff at this hotel or the food, the accommodation was the very basic of basic.

Also, everyone at the hotel seemed too plagued with mosquito bites, the windows in the bathrooms did not fit so they were coming into the rooms through the spaces all around the window frame.

Although this has nothing to do with the hotel, the flights were just the basic size seats that are used for short haul flights. I would have thought that the seats should have been a larger size, the normal as it was a 10 hour flight.

" This was an excellent holiday, basic... "

This was an excellent holiday, basic accommodation but everything you need.

Your never in the room only to sleep and shower. Good position just off the main road and about 10min stroll to the beach, you can get taxi down to the beach for 50 rupees.

The only problem we have with Goa is we want to book again for this year and it has doubled in price, but definitely go.

" First visit to the area, would highly... "

First visit to the area, would highly recommend the hotel, staff and food. Rooms basic but clean, staff very helpful and could not do enough for you.

Loved it so much we are going back in Jan 07 and it can’t come soon enough, sure we will meet the same people as last year, due to the fact that everyone always goes back. Which has to tell you something?

Staff always at hand particularly Paulo who was rushing around helping out but always with a smile.

Looking forward to seeing old friends.

" Staff fantastic, basic hotel but very... "

Staff fantastic, basic hotel but very homely. Rooms were clean, choice of different foods.

My only complaint was that the hotel is advertised as having air conditioning, which it has, but every day a member of staff was sent round to turn it off from an outside switch (obviously to save money), and when asked why it was off to be told that there is an electricity failure. When asked for a refund because it was turned off every day, it was then left on for the duration.

That is the only fault, everything else was great. Hence I have given it 9/10.

" We had are first visit to the... "

We had are first visit to the Santiago in 2004, we had the most fantastic time. All the staff are so wonderful even the security man that wakes up to show you to room at 2 - 3am from Nazi's bar.

We could not get in the following year but went to visit, and all the staff remembered our names and come to greet us. It was the most fabulous place and that's why we are going back next year and taking our family to experience the warmth and welcome for our Wedding and Honeymoon.

This hotel was brilliant. All the staff were lovely, knew your names and would be with you quicker than you could click your fingers. This was the best holiday I've ever been on and I'd have been happy to stay in the hotel all day. The hotel may be basic but you're made to feel at home.

Food was great, serving English, Indian, Chinese, Thai and other continental foods. The taxi rank in the hotel is good and the people are always willing to take you wherever you want to go.

I'd highly recommend this clean place as it has a warm, friendly atmosphere. I look forward to going back.

This was a great hotel where staff were excellent, food was superb, rooms were clean everyone was so friendly and helpful. The waiters were great new your names and topped your drinks without being asked. Would stay here again every time.

The beach was only a 5 min walk away and the taxi service was superb and not dear. They were very good especially the jungle book where you stayed in a mud hut in the jungle, then rode elephants and also bathed them as well, you also got a trip to a spice plantation.
