" Will Happily Go Back "
Submitted By: benleannpersonally we had a brilliant time and are happy to go back. Yes the hotel rooms are basic but the rest of the hotel was great as were the people we met and the people that run the hotel. We couldnt of asked for a better break and the weather was excellent especially if you like lounging in a hammock with a good book!
We definatly recommend and cant wait to go back.
Ben and Leann

" Turunc is a stunningly beautiful... "
Submitted By: Mr DM JONESThe rooms and food at the Gokce Hotel were average at best, with the repeat visitors to whom we spoke telling us of maintenance issues going unresolved for years. One mattress in particular was the butt of many jokes and appeared to be approaching its 10th birthday! A resident while we were there left something under the bed when he left saying that he fully expected that the cleaner would not find it and he would see it on his next visit.
The Gokce seemed to have the best pool in Turunc but unfortunately the arrangement allowing its use by the residents of the apartments over the road often made it noisy. Likewise, the pool bar appeared to be used as an evening creche for the children of the owners and their relatives, so was rarely used by the people staying at the hotel.
Despite all of this, the hotel did not particularly spoil our holiday and there was a large proportion of repeat visitors and lots of jokes about Fawlty Towers.
For the best food in Turunc go to Serkan Restaurant, which can be found just off the main street between Musti Restaurant and the Internet Cafe. We worked our way through the menu during our 3 week stay and also tested their offer to cook Turkish meals not on the menu providing we gave them 2 hours notice. The food and service was never anything less than excellent and they even went out and got a specific wine that we asked for as they didnt stock it. The Ottoman casserole and sea bass were my particular favourites from the menu and if you pre order mezzes or Turkish liver you are in for a treat.
We were a little disappointed with the boat trips on offer as they all seemed quite similar, with the top decks packed with sunbeds and no space between them, and all went to the same bays at the same time. All charged in the region of £10 for the day but Musti`s boat appeared to be the favourite amongst the majority due to the friendliness of the crew. We decided to pay a bit extra at £25 and go on a gullet, the Erayim 2, with a maximum capacity of 14 people. This went to bays further along the coast where few other boats went to and often we were the only boat there. In our opinion this was well worth the extra cost.
A hidden gem in Turunc is to walk the road from Turunc to Amos Beach. It takes around 40 minutes each way and is quite hilly but the views are spectacular. For those a little more adventurous there are some rocks on the way where you can get some amazing photos with a bit of careful climbing.
Be aware that Turunc is by no means the cheapest resort in Turkey due to the fact that the local mayor sets many of the prices charged by the hotels, boats and restaurants. We were told that businesses not complying with the recommended prices could be fined or even closed down. A large beer, for example, is 5 lira in Turunc but only 3 lira down the road in Icmeler. A large bottle of water that you could buy in the supermarket for 0.75 lira was 2.5 lira at the Gokce.
On the whole, we had a fantastic holiday but as yet we are undecided as to whether we will return. If we do, we will definitely not be staying at the Gokce (self catering is probably a better option) but we will definitely eat at Serkan Restaurant every day.

" We booked this deal about a month... "
Submitted By: Mr H RahamanThe hotel staff are very friendly and the pool area is great for kids and parents. Free use of lilos and sun beds. In addition, there is an additional pool across the road, which is owned by a cousin of the hotel and you can use that (a bit cooler than the hotel pool).
Breakfast and hotel are basic but when you consider how much time you spend in the hotel bedroom this is not important. Air conditioning is available at an extra charge. We stayed on the ground floor and did not bother even with night time temperatures around 26 degrees, the rooms were quite cool. However, this may not apply to all rooms especially those above ground level.
Beers and basic snacks can be bought in the hotel, but with a very short walk there are two restaurants available (beer is also slightly cheaper!).
The hotel prefer if you buy drinks and snacks in the hotel but are happy for you to buy stuff they do not provide such as certain soft drinks, ice cream, crisps etc.
The resort is also very quiet but has enough bars and restaurants to cater for every taste and if required you can catch English/Scottish sports matches in certain bars.
If you fancy travelling further afield, boat taxis can take you to Marmaris or Icmeler (very limited service to Icmeler - check before travelling) or take the dolmus.
Boat trips are also available, we took a 5 bay trip which cost about £10, but shop around as prices do vary. In addition, if you want, you can hire your own speed boat!!
Other points, the transfer time of 2.5 hours was a little long and we had to change vehicles on both journeys which was inconvenient, especially on the return journey.
Also, the leg from Marmaris to Turunc is fantastic, beautiful scenery but just do not look down at times!
All in all a good holiday and a good hotel base from which to enjoy the resort or just lay around the pool.
Beware, Dalaman airport is very expensive although modern. They offer food and drink at the most expensive prices I have seen anywhere in the world! So eat and drink before you leave to return to the UK!

" We had initially booked at the Pelin... "
Submitted By: Mr A AldridgeThe Gokce is a 30 roomed hotel and for the first week we were the only people staying there. The room was clean and functional and the pool area was well presented and tidy. I would advise anybody staying at the Gokce to bring a torch or buy a one locally, which we did after the first night.
The reason for this was that the hotel poolside lights were switched off before we arrived back (typically between 2200-2300) and there were numerous trip hazards to be avoided (broken paving / pool inspection cover) before we reached the stairs.
The stair lights only operated from the top going downwards and the steps themselves were of varying height, so, even with our torch, I tripped a couple of times going up.
Jewel in the Crown makes great play of this hotel’s being family run by the daughter of the owner, who is “really kind, helpful, and friendly.” Unfortunately this lady was rarely there during our stay, as she has recently had a baby.
The members of the family whom we saw appeared indifferent to our presence and did not even wish us good bye on our last day. The young men who served our breakfast were attentive and the tour rep was pleasant.
We had stayed in Turunc last year at the Pelin which beat the Gokce hands down in every department and we were very disappointed that it was not open for business. We found Turunc to be noisier than before and now caters for the Brit who likes Karaoke; quiz nights, wide screen TV showing sport – even in some restaurants.
There is now a restaurant which boasts “authentic Yorkshire fish and chips” - OK if you like that sort of thing. We noticed that large numbers of apartments are being built, so, very soon, what charm this place has will be gone.
We have travelled to Turkey on numerous occasions but will not be returning to Turunc.

" Tucked away over a mountain or a 40... "
Submitted By: Mrs M WilsonArriving at The Gocke hotel, 5 mins walk from the beach, I was greeted by the owners who showed us to a clean pool- view room on landing 2 of its 3 storeys. There was air-conditioning at a local charge, but we made a deal with the owners and got it much reduced. I always think if you’re polite and friendly, most locals will go out of their way to help.
The pool was fantastic. clean, with bar to refresh you at lunchtime with sandwiches and water and plenty of sunbeds. In fact the place wasn’t full at all as were NONE of the hotels in Turunc. Its worth booking the hotel and buying flights separately...they’re only £10 per night. The staff and owners were extremely helpful although few spoke much English but they loved it if you tried to speak Turkish.
Breakfast was typically Turkish, salad/tomatoes/ham/cheese and if you ask for a Turkish coffee, they’ll make you one..free!
After breakfast, we took a 5 min maximum stroll to the main street. Because it’s a little bay, away from the hustle and bustle of Marmaris, and although there were tourists (mostly on day trips from Marmaris) the streets weren’t packed. In fact, although it was Aug, it felt like early season.
The main street has lots of restaurants similarly priced and all of equal quality. The food REALLY was excellent. I stuck to local foods rather than anything with chips and I wasn’t disappointed. An average meal, bread to start, wine and food cost approx £6 a head. Local RAKI (ouzo to us Brits) was often free and they gave children free squash and water whenever I asked.
Jewellery shops, souvenir shops, local hole-in-the-wall etc were all there a-plenty so you didn’t need to run out of ideas.
The bars were great - catering for the younger tourists (although no “lager louts” were visible at any time of our stay). Families, couples and all ages took to the evening entertainment and drinks were usual prices £2 a cocktail etc/spirits-local beer somewhat cheaper. Bars stayed open till 1am and at weekends, later till 3am.
The beach was narrow, man-made and had the usual array of sea-front restaurants all crying out for your custom. This was the only letdown of the whole place. Mind you, the pool was much better at keeping us cool. there were plenty of watersports ongoing which could be booked at the marina.
The local taxi-boats went regularly to Marmaris and Icmeler (every 30 mins for £2 return) and you could book day trips to Rhodes etc, which is only across the water an hour away. In addition, there were other local boat-trips which were well worth going on and I thoroughly recommend. You could book with your operator or more cheaply by Travel Agents on the main street or on the Marina quayside itself. For those who prefer dry land, the local Dolmus (minibus taxi) called each hour to return to Icmeler or Marmaris over the mountain. Nerves of steel required for this trip!
All in all, the holiday was peaceful, relaxing and gave me a thought that there must be plenty of other little “Bays” in and around the Turkish coast that often become overlooked because of their close association to Marmaris or the likes.
If you want a brilliant holiday without the crowds, go to Turunc...you’ll not regret it.

The breakfast was basic but sufficient but for lunch and dinner we could ask for anything from Ali and he would do his best to please us even if it wasnt on the menu! The longer into our 2 week holiday it got, the more we bonded with other visitors in the hotel and the staff, it was a lovely quiet break, extremely enjoyable and so cheap for everything! I would definately go back to turkey and specifically the Gokce Hotel!
Advice: Lovely holiday for families and couples, beautiful scenery and friendly locals.
Activities: Korfez restaurant.
