My wife and I are a couple of “Twitchers” so Valera was perfect for us. Armed with our binoculars we saw birds galore, a paradise for our feathered friends. It is also a marvellous area for wild life in general and walking. The resort is on the southern coast approximately 35 miles from the capital Mytine. The uncrowded sand and shingle beach stretches for about 7 miles and the sea is very inviting. The area so far has barely been touched by tourism as we know it and its back to the “Real Greece”. There are a handful of Tavernas around serving delicious fresh fish and other traditional Greek dishes.
The Madonna Apartments are only 150 yards from the beach. The rooms are very comfortable and all have air conditioning. The owners are really friendly and helpful. We booked independently through the website www.vatera-lesvos.co.uk and everything went smoothly.
If you are bird watchers or enjoy a laid back and relaxing holiday with some walking we can thoroughly recommend it here. There is other accommodation in Vatera to choose from but we were very happy at the Madonna Studios.
