Best package tour hotel ever!
I found some of the reviews of 2005 not as good as 2004 so maybe the hotel has lost some of its standards. We found the hotel excellent the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you, inspite of what people have written the food was okay and you could always find something different to eat each evening. We particularly liked the bbq on the beach and paid extra each day for either steak or chicken kebabs which were great. We opted to go all inclusive straightaway and had no problems. You were given bottled water each evening, you had to ask of course, but there was never any problem. We often had beers as extra and often drinks past the allotted 12 midnight but in all we only paid another £100 for two weeks for everything. The beach was lovely and the man who ran it was great and always got our beds ready for us. We didn't go round the pool usually until late in the afternoon when it got a little less crowded as we preferred the beach and especially like the jetty which is for Grand Kaptan guests only. The shop in the hotel was a little expensive but it was handy and there are so many shops outside the hotel it wasn't a problem. The only thing I found against it was that the entertainment on the roof was repeated each week but it was okay as we chose not to go to all of them the first week. The animation team were okay but it's not something we like to participate in although it was fun to watch them sometimes. I will be going back again as I loved the hotel it was immaculate, we stayed in a room in the main hotel and were at the top - it is easily the best room and cleanest I have ever stayed at on a package holiday and I have been to plenty. Enjoy your stay at Grand Kaptan!
best holiday ever!!!!!!
went here with my partner and i must say for our first holiday abroad together this was perfect. the staff were helpful and could understand a little bit of english. the bar staff really got to no us and made us feel welcome through out the whole holiday. the rooms in the main building were beautiful. we had a side sea view and it was lovely. they were cleaned every day. the food was good, it had a range of different foods. the snack bar was brillaint i reccomend the toasted cheese sandwiches they were lovely. hotel is about a 15 min drive away from the main town but this is easily reached by the hotels FREE coach which picks you up outside the hotel and drops you back. The pool is lovely espically if you need to cool down! plenty of sunbeds! you have an underpass to the beach which is great and the sunbeds are free so make sure you go on the right part. the beach is gorgeous the water is lovely watch out for the fish as they like to swim around your feet lol! and the entertaiment, well what can i say what a fantastic animation team they have got at this hotel! they made the holiday for us. they were so friendly everyday they were around the pool and came over to you and had a chat. they got every one to join in in the games they layed out during the day. then the evening came and it was brillaint. they had different shows each night we were fantastic. and a special mention goes out to Speedy. he was one of the animation team and he was brillaint, he made friends with us straight away. everyday he would come and say hello to us and spend the day with us when he didnt have to do anything he made you at home. all i can say is he is fantastic!!!!!! and we are going to miss him very much. over all this holiday was fantastic and i would go back here again!!!!!
Grand Kaptan Grand Holiday.
Stayed in this hotel with my hubby and 12 year old son, and its one of the best holidays we have had.Bedrooms were excellant, clean, very spacious, we had a great view over looking the pool and beach. Staff were very polite and helpfull. We booked through First choise and the rep Karen was spot on.If i had to pick any faults the food could have been better it was a bit repetative, and speeking to other guests who were regular visiters they said the food had gone down since they made it all inclusive to other nationalaties. The hotel is in a quiet area but plenty transport at hand to the lively areas, and very cheap. The Kaptan also provide a free bus,but we found this could be crowded.Just behind the hotel are 2 great bars The Blue Parrot Owned by Captain Jack,he is a real comedian and very helpful. The other being The Orange Grove this was our favorite all the waiter their were fantastic and worked very hard to make sure you were happy. This is owned by Bekir and English Lady Ann she was very sociable and helpful always made you feel welcome. My son absolutaly loved the 2 pools one of which had slides.Iwould recomend this hotel to anyone, we will definatly return. If you decide to go look out for the peacock
Fantastic Holiday
We have just returned from our first (but not the last) holiday to Turkey and were lucky enough to stay at the Grand Kaptan. Our room was in the main building overlooking the pool and was nothing short of fantastic. The staff and Karen our holiday rep (First Choice) were superb. The room was large with plenty of storage space, spotlessly clean and the food was amazing. We nearly managed to try everything once during our 2 week stay! The garden is very pretty and well maintained, the main pool is large and clean - it can be a bit of a struggle getting a sunbed by the pool if you are not early risers (too many late nights at ADANUS I'm afraid!) but there is always plenty of sunbeds available on the beach which is just through the underpass (which is lovely and cool as it is all tiled). It is true that the Brits are very much in the minority at this hotel, in fact in Alanya, but that made us feel very much wanted by the Turkish people, who are incredibly hospitable. We found ourselves spending most of our evenings at the ADANUS RESTAURANT & BAR (just down the road from the Orange Grove). Adanus made a great holiday even better. Hasan and his staff made us feel incredibly welcome and work very hard to make sure everyone has a fantastic time, which we did on many a night! In fact we missed breakfast most mornings all thanks to Hasan & Co! Please call in and see them and catch the 85yr old fatman dance you will not be disappointed! We left feeling like we were leaving some very good friends behind and cannot wait to return.
staff were rude!
We stayed at the Grand Kaptain over the Easter holidays. The hotel was clean and well equipped for kids. The location of the hotel is fine, its outside of the centrum but this is no problem as buses pass every 5 minutes and a free bus is provided by the hotel. I found the hotel staff not very helpfull, on our last day we kept one of the hotel rooms at a extra cost, we were told that 2 people could have evening dinner inclusive of the room and the remaining 3 of us would have to pay £5.00. We told the receptionist to include this in our bill which we were paying at this time. On the last evening we went for dinner and the restaurant manager and some of his staff were stood to check the names off for the people who had payed. On checking our names he said only 2 of us could eat, we tried to explain that we had paid extra so we could all eat, the guy would not listen, when we tried to show him the receipt he through it back at us with a rude manner nad refused to look at it. it would take too long to go into the whole conversation that followed but I have to say I have never been spoken to in such a off hand manner in all my life... We bought a property when we were there so we had no problem with Alanya itself and we did plan to stay in the hotel a couple more times while we set the villa up and sort furniture, but I can honestly say I would never stay in that hotel again!! Also after speaking to other guests I found out that many people had different problems with the staff for one reason or another.. We found it a very dissapointing end to which could of been i decent holiday
great irish bar within walking distance
For a 5 star hotel the service and food is not.Luckly that there is an İrish bar The Foxs Den within walking distance serving a Full irish breakfast.Great Staff and good fun.look forward to goıng back
Grand Craptan!
Needless to say, this Hotel is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at! Room was not cleaned, food was appauling, beach was dirty. The staff, however, were very nice, and it is a shame that this is the only good thing abot the hotel. The Orange Grove, just next door, was lovely though. We were made very welcome, and the food was excellent.
Terrible hotel but good service
The hotel Grand Kaptan is NOT a five star hotel as advertised. In fact I would go as far to say that it only just hit a three. We had read on this website how some people had mentioned that the Annex wasn't good so when we arrived we asked to go into the main hotel but were told we could not move and would get what we were given! Needless to say we were put in the Annex. Our main complaints about the room were as follows: •the bed was so firm that it would have been more comfortable to have slept on the floor; •the entrance of the room was in an outside hallway (in the main hotel the room doors are all located inside the building) and are not insulated in anyway, therefore you could hear every bit of traffic on the main roads which run either side of the building. The traffic went on all through the night and so we didn’t sleep well for the whole holiday; •the floor was carpeted and was never cleaned the whole time we were there; •as the rooms were allocated off the main hotel site we had a five minute walk to get to all the amenities of the hotel e.g., restaurant, pool, beach, reception etc. •there were no coffee/tea making facilities – this is particularly important due to not being in the main building near the refreshment facilities; •our balcony overlooked a busy street with some shops and restaurants, which were very noisy and could be heard late into the night. In the main hotel the rooms either overlook the pool or gardens with sea views; •on the other side of the street that we were overlooking was a generator that made the most horrendous noise for the majority of the afternoon/evenings, so it made it fairly impossible for us to sit on the balcony. We spoke to another couple, who had a room in the main building and they confirmed that the rooms were of a better standard in the main building. I would just like to say thank you to the people who said to go to the Orange Grove around the corner. We went there a couple of evenings. The service was very friendly and made you feel welcome. Also when visiting Alanya, go into the town for dinner at the Mariner. The food and service are fantastic and offers a little more than pizza and steak. Sorry just one more moan - the hotel is completely set up for German tourists and as an English person you will find it hard to find entertainment or food to your liking, unless you like german bingo and sausages!
Great Hotel - Shame about the food
We stayed All Inclusive in the Grand Kaptan and although the Hotel itself and the facilities are fantastic there are still a few problems that prevent this hotel being worth the 5 stars it advertises. Firstly though i would like to say that the standard of the rooms and the cleanliness was second to none. The facilites in general were fantastic and there are no complaints with that. However, the standard of the food was noting short of diabolical. We were All Inclusive so felt obliged to eat all meals in the hotel. The food was bland, boring, seemed to consist of a choice of different meat stews and was exactly the same every single day!! It would have disapointed at the quality in a 2 star hotel let alone a 5!! Also the staff tended to treat All Inclusive customers like second class citizens and you were routinely ignored in the bar areas when you were waiting to get serves. Also the pool bar attendents liked to laugh at the English guests in German to each other and had a shock on the last day when they discovered my Girlfriend is a German speaker. They were very rude and very offensive to some people - not what you expect. It is shame because it is a great hotel in a great location but these problems would mean i would never go back and could never recommend it to anyone.
worst food ever
we have been going to Alanya for 5 years, We stayed at the Grand Kaptan last year 2003 and it was fantastic, This year however was terrible the food was disgusting, we had disruption from the bridge being pulled down making access to the main hotel from the annex difficult, there was also very strong diesel fumes comming through the air conditioning system in the main entrance of the hotel giving many people a very sore and dry throut, would not return to this hotel again but must add the rooms were very clean and tidy.
