" brill with pleny to do for everyone "

absolutely fab hotel nothing like the bad reviews have made out. the room we had had the best view ever looking straight over the sea, the pool and could see the castle lit up in the evening. room also very big a top to tail bed for my 14 yr old daughter Hayley and we had a king size bed. plenty of storage space as my daughter normally takes over any space.
Not many Germans - a lot of dutch that my daughter made friends with in particular a family who had a very nice son who was also 14 and all the dutch we met were extremely courteous and friendly. There were also a lot of english with teenagers so my daughter had mamy friends and had a fab time.
the food in the hotel was great - there was something for everyone from a variety of salads, cheeses, meat including sirloin steak, stews, chicken, pork and lamb, pasta dishes, fresh vegetables and much much more - even the fussiest person would be able to find something.
i agree the entertainment wasn't up to much. my daughter went in the evening to meet her friends sometimes they would stay and listen to it but not all the time.
Must recommend the blue parrott just outside the hotel. they are very friendly if go there and take a mobile phone with the bubble game on then let tommy (the manager) have a go on it - he's addicted now. have let tommy know that everyone that goes there gives a good review - so must go.
pool area was cleaned every day as i watched them in the morming from the balcony. the pool staff are always going round clearing cups etc. and one in particular would put your towels on the sunbeds and go and fetch water for you- very good.
overall we all had an excellent time and would go there again

Advice: how nice it was

" Great Hotel HOT HOT HOT!!! "

My holiday was fantastic the slides were great, the pool is great. Well the staff were fantastic i have never met such friendly people. When i was there the hottest tempurture was 52 degrees so expect it to be hot.I would rate the 10 out of 10 it was gorgeous how they did it do not know . There is meals for everyone vegitarians aswell as us.We could not stop eating. The only bad thing was the entertainment the odd night is was good but normally it was awfull.and DO NOT BUY THE BINGO TICKETS because its 18 pound for 1 game and 1strip for 1 person its a right rip off. The prizes are a cocktail which the all in conclusive get for free anyway.
I would definetely recommend the BLUE PARROT! It is the best pub in the entire world and it is across the road to the Grand Kaptain plz try it ! I would go again 1 year.

Advice: go to damlatas caves and upto the castle and go to aspendos the roman ampiheatre.

Activities: The BLUE PARROT was amazing

" excellent "

i have just returned from a week at the grand kapton,
dont let other reviews put you off,as the annex side of the hotel was closed.
the hotel is very clean rooms are of excellent quality, the food is excellent with a large choice to suit all eaters even the fussy ones, the pool does get crowded but not over the top and there is another pool with slides for kids off all ages,
staff were freindly and helpful and the free bus into town was a great help
my only complaints were the air condition on the hotel floors never seemed to be on,the evening entertainment on the roof was ok for kids and adults as long as you take it for what it is meant as light entertainment,

Good for: Beach

" We stayed at the grand kaptan on a... "

We stayed at the grand kaptan on a half board basis and could not fault the hotel it is clean and resonably maintained but the but and it is a big BUT it is rammed to the rafters with germans the whole resort is and they are the most rude ignarent people i've ever come across they wont wait for anything they push shove and barge them selves past you at times pushing my 4 year old son over out of the whole hotel and it is a big hotel we were one of about ten families there.

The staff were o.k but they love the germans they will serve them before you or on a few occastions complety ignore you and walk away.

The food is o.k but aimed at the germans garlic sausage for breakfast gaulash for evening meal etc etc.
great if you dont mind a change but when you have fussey kids not so good my son lived on coco pops we brought from the local shop for breakfast as we found no cerals and chips and what ever we could get him to eat on the evening.

the pool is great but you dont have a prayer of getting a sun bed the germans were leaving towels and inflatable toys on them when we were there so they kept the same sun bed the whole time they were there and like i said the hotel staff love them so they were not told to move them nor did the hotel staff move them.

entertainment exsisted but you didnt know about it because it was announched in germen we was told about the turkish night by the cleaner no board up telling you what was going on just the dj by the pool telling you but it was in german. one day they did party songs in the pool but it was in german no thought about the other guests that were there as there were some dutch and afew others there.

drinks were very expensive we were half broad so were buying our drinks i paid nearly £5 for two glasses of coke so we brought bottles from the local shop and kept them cool in the mini bar much much cheaper.

hotel bus to alanya town is free but forget about getting on it at night we turned up 15 mins before it was due we were one of the first to be waiting for it the bus came and the germans charged for it getting on and saving seats for each other we had to argue with one girl who was saving a seat for her mother the bus was rammed there was no way her mother was getting to that seat but we had to argue with her so my 4 year old son could sitdown and of course they starting slaging the english off god they think we are stupid they may be speaking german but the word english kinda gives it away.

Like i said you could not fault the hotel except for favouring the germans. but the germans spoilt our holiday I've never been on holiday and felt so isolated so excluded from everything i know you have to expect other naitionalitys there but to be in a hotel that is full of germans and a hotel that wont enforce the rules with them and favours them above them above you everything you did was a battle against the germans from getting your meals to getting a sun bed even being in the pool was hard work they would float about on lilos not caring if you or your kids are there i had to grab my son afew times to stop a lilo going over the top of him oh and the kids pool was full of germans floating on lilos to but them ones mustnt have wanted to get their hair wet again the hotel staff did not care what they were doing they never even told the women to put their tops back on when sun bathing it is a family hotel and i dont want my kids seeing that also topless sun bathing is illegal in turkey as it is a muslim country.

IF you do go the blue parrot bar over the road is great really friendly and funney guys run it and they really make an effort make your holiday fun.

all in all great hotel shame about the germans

" Had a great holiday at The Grand... "

Had a great holiday at The Grand Kapton Lovely hotel very clean, staff friendly, However the evening entertainment not that good for anyone that likes the odd game of bingo dont be fooled they chage £5.00 per ticket and you win a load of rubish. Take advantage of the al a cart menu, The Beach restaurant was good and also the boat trip from alanya. The restaurant in the hotel was ok much the same every night just ok.
So anyone going have a great time hoola hoola.

" I read the reviews on this website... "

I read the reviews on this website before booking and it encouraged me to book for my 2 week holiday this year.
I found the hotel check in excellent and I was taken to my room promptly and that's more or less where the good news ends. The room was in the Annex and was very poorly furnished, I have stayed in better 3* hotels. The balcony was unuseable as the builders had decided to put the outside box of the airconditioning unit on it, which meant warm air was constantly pumped on it - great for drying clothes but far too warm to sit on. The side seaview was a joke.
The grounds were not the cleanest and although okay, a 4* rating is stretching credibility. A 5* rating? - no chance!
The pool and beach were absolutely packed tight, not even enough room to turn sunbeds round to face the sun. The overcrowding was due to the growth of the hotel and in particular the expansion to the Annex without the corresponding growth in pool size. This caused many problems with towels on the sunbeds syndrome, not a problem for me as I am an early bird and was regularly down by the pool for 6.30-7.00am, because I hated staying in my room longer than I had to. By 7.30 there were no sunbeds left and the security guards started removing towels of empty sunbeds, including those of people who were actually swimming in the pool and because I holidayed alone I could not even leave my sunbed to go to the loo without losing my place. This caused many arguments and the senior security man was very aggressive - not what you want when on holiday.
The dining facilities were the same as the pool - absolutely packed and there was huge difficulty in getting a table. Again as I holidayed and dined alone, on numerous occassions I went to get my next course only to return to my table to find it had been cleared and at times someone else was sitting there. Usually the waiters replaced my drinks, but at times they refused. I found them rude, overworked and constantly rushing. Dining was not relaxing and caused indigestion. The food was fantastic and the choice wide - so a gold star there. Breakfasts were quieter, (although I had to nail down my sunbed!), however for some reason you couldn't eat breakfast outside (one of the many rules).
The hotel seemed to be run by over officious staff, hell bent on maintaining rules and not catering for the individual.
The entertainment in the evening ranged from very poor to okay. During the day there was some fun and the entertainment team were excellent and very friendly.
The check out took more than 30 minutes and they got everyones bill wrong, trying to charge me £15 for a glass of coke and another woman £10 for a small bottle of wine with a loose top from the mini bar (the bottle was full and the seal not broke). Again many arguments ensued.
All in all I found the hotel to be of a poor standard for a 4* with staff more interested in running a perfect functional hotel with too many rules and regulations rather than one that caters for inidivdual holiday makers.

" I have stayed at the grand kaptan... "

I have stayed at the grand kaptan hotel many times with various friends and family. I can only say good things, the hotel{newly fefurbished} all staff members from housekeeping to management, rooms, restaurant, bars, facilites and fantastic beach and water sports. It is like a family, many members of staff remaining the same each year. I usually stay for two weeks, which is never enough...I would happily recommend it to everyone of any age or gender. I look forward to many more happy holidays....enjoy.

" I went to the Grand Kaptan for two... "

I went to the Grand Kaptan for two weeks with my boyfriend. Our first holiday!

The hotel was wonderful. The only reason it got 9 out of 10 was the entertainment...while there was entertainment every night, it wasnt always entertaining! It's the one man that does it all! He does a good fire show but to be honest i cant really remember the rest so they cant have been that interesting! P.s dont drink the vodka...its wayyyyy too strong! not in a good way!

STAFF - were mostly very helpful and the maids very attentive. They expect a tip though so if you give them one on the first day like we did they were very happy and changed everything every day and the place was always spotless! We found no bugs whatsoever (i have a phobia and was worried!). I cannot rave enough about our room, we had a double and a single bed in it for some reason lol, i think we were upgraded for free as we were meant to be in the annexe but when we arrived they have us a room in the hotel itself.

FOOD - if you dont make the early breakfast, we found the later one didnt have a very good selection! But we lived with it because we werent always awake so early! The dinners served a good selection of hot and cold! Im not a big eater - i like lots of fruit which there was plenty of so i was happy! My boyfriend could eat for anything though, and he seemed happy enough.

POOL - is gorgeous and very big! It was lovely. there werent any rowdy crowds when we were there either so it was relaxing. we also used the tennis courts (costs small fee) but gave up as it was too hot...too used to good old scotland! was still about 38c in sept!

BEACH - was fine, nothing special but wasnt bad! you can take a trip to the cleopatra beach which is much nicer but a beach is a beach and i just wanted the sun!

TOWN - is a short bus ride away, we learned alot about haggling as they always try and get ridiculous prices, but if you keep walking away you can get things for next to nothing! They can be very pushy though and you have to say a firm no if you arent interested, it feels harsh but you have to do it!
Be wary of some of the perfume sellers. One man tried to force me into buying lacoste touch of pink as i said its my favourite, it looked the business so i asked to try it, and they go get a bottle from the back ( a real one ), so i asked to try the one id be buying and he caused a fuss, but i did it anyway and it burned my arm!! i said no to him and he told me to "f**k off" and much more haha...

EXCURSIONS - we did quite a few...turkish night - was entertaining, lots of dancing but it was enjoyable and even my boyfriend thought it was good.
Day cruise - was lovely, apart from being sea-sick! but its good to top up the tan and sail about for a while and enjoy the sea!
night-time cruise - was lovely, romantic :)
we did the last day excursion too which was great as it takes up your time before your flight if its a late one! they take you to a shopping mall and a gorgeous waterfall and then to a hotel near the airport where you have the room until your flight. i reccommend this as we would have had to walk about for hours ouside the kaptan! and it also breaks up the journey to the airport which takes a while.

BLUE PARROT - the bar right next to the kaptan. we never left! the staff are great!! say hi to tommy from us haha!

I would reccommend this hotel to a friend as it was excellent. we are booking another holiday but want to try a different country and are worried we have set the standard too high because of the kaptan!
I think it would be suitable for kids as there is some entertainment from them and a small pool aswell with slides etc. Also not many young crowds so was safe for everyone. We saw lots of older couples aswel :)

hope this was helpful!
ENJOY!

" I thought the Grand Kaptan was a... "

I thought the Grand Kaptan was a fantastic hotel and would certainly recommend it!! We were originally booked to stay in the Annex but i had read so many bad reports about it we paid for an upgrade and im glad we did. We arrived at the hotel in the early hours and taken to our room which was very clean and looked over the main swimming pool. The restaurant was also very clean, food was fantastic with a great choice and the staff were very nice, couldnt do enough for you.

The guys over the road in the Blue Parrott are great fun, a real friendly bunch so make sure you go there.

This wasn't our first time in Alanya, we have been going there for almost 11 years, we just love it but staying in a lovely hotel just makes it little bit more relaxing and i cant wait to go back again in Sep 08.

" We loved this place so much we are... "

We loved this place so much we are going again this year. Two great pool areas, one with slides which kept kids amused all day long. Beautiful gardens and direct underground access to beach.

Food always of a good standard and lots of choice. We stayed for two weeks and didn't get bored of any of the food, lots of variety. Courtesy bus to and from the town from the hotel on a regular basis.

Staff all very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Roof top entertainment area in the evenings, entertainment every night, this varies so doesn't suit everyone every night but over the course of a week there is something for everyone.

" I really could not fault this holiday... "

I really could not fault this holiday - I was travelling with my three teenagers and an 8 year old and we had a ball. The food was excellent, the rooms were clean, and the staff could not have been more helpful and kind.

We were in the annex which is just across a small road from the main hotel, and it is at the annex that the waterslides are located; we spent most of our time at this pool as it was less crowded than the pool in the main building. It is at this pool too that you are almost guaranteed to get a sun bed and there are plenty of umbrellas and trees to shade you when you need to get out of the sun.

I am told that the rooms in the annex are not as spacious or as good as the ones in the main hotel, but as I haven't seen a room there I cannot comment, other than to say that our two rooms at the annex were great, I couldn't have asked for more, we had everything we could possibly have needed. The maids were lovely and did a great job, sheets and towels were changed every day, and they even folded our pyjamas into lovely shapes.

We were all inclusive which means exactly what it says and we were surprised to find that even more than was specified in the brochure was included - as this may change I would check - but ice creams and a harbour dinner cruise, and three other restaurants were available all included in the AI price.

In fact we loved the place so much we have booked to go back in August 2008 taking another family along with us.

" Booked through First Choice a year... "

Booked through First Choice a year and a half ago as we were getting married and although we did not know it at the time, we had booked to stay in the annexe.

But when we arrived we were moved to the main building as the annexe was closed and also upgraded to full board as there were minor building work going on in the lobby, which most of the time you do not see or hear.

Rooms were very spacious and kept clean at all times. Meals were good and a wide selection for all.

Also resort was perfect for kids as there was many activities around the pool area to keep the kids and adults entertained. Also 3 very good slides for all to have fun on.

There is entertainment on the roof bar at night and if you want a short walk across the road tommy, niko and Mohammed will keep you amused at the blue parrot.

Fell in love with this place and will go back next year.

" Late booking with First Choice, after... "

Late booking with First Choice, after reading reviews on the web site decided to go ahead anyway.

On arrival in Turkey we were upgraded to full board due to work being carried out in the lobby of the hotel. We were the only ones on our flight staying at the Grand Kaptan so had a mini bus transfer direct to the hotel.

The work in the lobby is quite extensive, and quite a lot of building materials were lying about outside. The exterior of the hotel is also being updated so it made it look quite shabby, however once inside the hotel; the rooms were good and the service very prompt.

The buffet in the dining room was not varied a great deal but the food was always hot and plentiful. We booked to go to the a la carte restaurant in the sister hotel by the harbour on our last night and it was dire, give it a miss.

The pool area is good, and well kept, and the beach although a bit stony is pleasant, the bar b queue night on the beach is worth a visit very romantic.

The annexe was closed even though we had booked to go to the annexe we were allocated a room in the hotel all in all it was still very good value for what we paid, but if we had paid full price and expected 5 star we would have been very disappointed.

A word of warning to anyone who is not all inclusive, when you pay your bar bill at the end of the holiday, it is in euro not Turkish lira.

Pay a visit to the Blue Parrot over the road, very friendly and good cocktails.

" We arrived at the hotel, and our... "

We arrived at the hotel, and our suitcases were taken of us and delivered to our room in a matter of minutes. If your not use to this kind of service it can surprise you. The hotel itself was immaculate. The maids cleaned our room daily, which was very messy with two teenage girls.

The pool was luke warm and lovely for a dip after falling asleep on our private beach. The staff at the Grand Kaptan was very pleasant and always said hello and stop for a chat. If you get a chance go for a ride on the jet ski's. It was amazing on our second attempt (our first one ended up with us falling off in the middle of the ocean) we saw a huge turtle, us thinking it was either a body going under and not coming back up or a shark. Taxi service and dolmus was always outside.

What made our stay in Alanya perfect was a bar we went to on our first night and never left. This was the Blue Parrot. We made so many good friends here who we still keep in touch with. We can’t wait to return next year for our cherry juice, apple tea and cheese toasties oh don’t forget the sex on the beach. Another restaurant which is only round the corner is the orange grove. The staff are superb.

I definitely recommend The Grand Kaptan and Alanya itself. Next time we go, we won’t come back lol.

Whoever has the chance to visit Alanya, it definitely be a holiday you won’t stop talking about.

" We have recently returned for 2 weeks... "

We have recently returned for 2 weeks all inclusive at the Grand Kaptan. There were 20 of us, aged from 12 to 61. We had a fantastic time, yes it is a 2 hour transfer, but you do get a refreshment break.

On arriving at the hotel, they checked all of us in very quickly. The rooms were very spacious, we were in the main building not the annex. We’d booked for a 5* star hotel and we certainly got one. We had beach towels supplied and could be changed for 1 euro, which was charged to your room, you don’t use cash at all, unless you had a Turkish bath, a visit to the hairdressers or the shops in the hotel. We were given bands with a metal disc on them and they “zapped them” for everything. If you had any extras they were zapped also. If you used the minibar or room service you were given a bill and could either pay it daily or at the end of your holiday. We had some ice creams, room service, mini bar and the use of a safe for our stay and the bill at the end of the holiday was a pleasant surprise not very much at all. All local drinks from 10-24.00, which included water, soft drinks, tea, coffee and local alcoholic drinks. Meals were buffet style, good choices. You also had 1 a la carte meal and 1 beach BBQ during the 2 week stay. You have 2 pools, 1 with flumes located at the annex part of hotel, the other main one has a pool bar and 3 whirlpools and a paddling pool plus your own private beach. They had a rooftop bar with super entertainment every night and the views were fantastic.

If you wanted to go into Alanya itself ( we were just outside of it) the hotel supplied a courtesy bus all day and you had the usual dolmus or a taxi (£5.00). Currency Note: Alanya uses euros and Turkish lira and sterling so you have a choice when you go out and about what to use.

Just next to the hotel are 2 pubs, the first is the Blue Parrot with Captain Jack and the other one is the Orange Grove both are highly recommended.

The Grand Kaptan could tick all the boxes for our group and believe me there were quite a few. We spoke to a few people there that didn’t realise you could go all inclusive. Some of them upgraded and booked for next year. All inclusive certainly makes a difference especially at a hotel of this standard.

A big thank you to Scott and Jean at First Choice for all their help with this holiday, we couldn’t have done it without you.

I’d certainly recommend this hotel to couple, families and groups. Book now and go all inclusive.
