Gloria Palace San Agustin Hotel Reviews
We were looking for a relaxing break after a hectic Christmas and New Year and after a tough year. We fully achieved this at the hotel and would rate it very highly.
The facilities are first class and look after just about everything, even free bus to beach. We went all inclusive so most drinks (including cocktails) were all free and made it superb value. Food was excellent although sometmes a bit busy in the main restaurant, staff were always helpful and rooms large and spacious - we had a family suite for 2 of us. Public areas were spotless including toilets, forecourts and pools. The Spa was unbelievable with a full day pampering and soaking although a bit pricy.
Evening entertainment mixed from brilliant to poor but different each night. Didn't really need to go out
Rooftop picture at chill out area is now my desktop to remind me of how relaxed we were.
- Advice: go all inclusive as best value

I liked the attention to the customer. The very varied buffet. The views from the palnta 9 where we had the room were great. And I hope to repeat soon!

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks from 16th January. Booked with Thomas Cooke. Flights almost on time both ways. Can honestly say that this hotel is very nice and and a quiet retreat. It does have some disadvantages as it is up a steep hill but we managed to get up it and we are approaching 60. It kept us fit as we walked up it twice a day. There is a free bus from the hotel to Playa de Ingles and Mas Palomas and returns at set times. Just give the driver a little tip occasionally as we did because he deserves it. The reception area in the hotel is fabulous and the staff very accommodating but be prepared for a little wait as they are very busy. Most of the staff speak some english. Most of the residents are german but they also were lovely. Massive selection of food and the breakfast is pretty good. Just one small gripe here as some of the selections were not warm enough for our liking but you can have some foods cooked to your liking such as eggs and fish etc., My husband likes just basic foods without sauces and extra,s and he found some of the food to his liking. I enjoyed most of it. The rooms are spotlessly clean and we had a family room which consisted of two rooms so ample space and if one of you snores then the other room is ideal. Our room was close to the outside bar and the only time we heard noise was on a Fri and Sat night and all was quiet after midnight. You expect that anyway when you are on holiday. The mattress is quite hard and I found it uncomfortable despite it supposed being healthier. I requested a softer mattress and was given a sunbed mattress to place on top. Not the best answer but heh I had a supper nights sleep after. We ate most nights in San Augustin at a restaurant looking over the sea, right on the corner by the shops. Food was fantastic and done to my husbands liking (no sauce or garlic). Shops in San Augustin are pricey so make sure you take plenty of tea bags with you. You get tea/sugar and milk, in small quantities supplied by the hotel but not the same as english tea. We bought some milk and that lasted for much of the holiday costing about 99cents, if I remember correctly. Don't buy things like shoes/clothes in San Augustin becauses the prices are way too high and I think they rip the tourist off. The further up north you go, the cheaper things get. So go on a couple of trips. The weather is fabulous. Rarely any rain. On our last day we visited an over the sea restaurant in Play de Ingles. It was called Sunset Bay Restaurant and it was on the far left of the shopping area which looked out over the sea. Spotlessly clean, excellent service, comfortable and the best english breakfast we had while in Gran Canaria. I think the gent who served us was german but perfect english. I wish we had found his restaurant before our last day. I would recommend this hotel +++ and I would return to this hotel but probably B/B and not half board as we did.

We are french and we spent 7 days with our 2 children (11 & 13) at the end of dec 2008.
This hotel is our badest memory for 20 years travelling.
The staff of this hotel is absolutly not frriendly. They don't matter about customer and some are even shameless !
The restaurant is too small, not confortable, many waiter but too busy to help you !
The nouriture is always the same, nothing fresh, very fat,
The restaurant has a beautiful big terrace but they don't use it for dinner or lunch ! For breakfast if you are lucky, you can take place on one of the 6 table they have put and if you ask for another table because the 6 are busy they are angry with you !
The swimming pool is ok but there is not much space around and the people are very close one to another.

Having stayed in most of the 4 star hotels in Playa Del Ingles and Maspalomas over the last 15 years we thought we would have a change this year and stay slightly further away from it all at the Gloria palace in San Agustin.
How FABULOUS it was !
If you want unpacked sandy beaches a short stroll away, albeit up-hill on your return,an outside area with two big pools and loads of room for your sun loungers that is styled on a cruise ship terrace that overlooks the sea then look no further.
Most hotels run-out of sun lounger space, this one doesn't and the whole outside space gets sun all day as it faces the sea.
Three of us went and we were given one room with three beds,we asked reception if they had something on a higher floor as we had a ground floor room and we were given a suite, complete with white leather sofas, flat screen tv and tons of scatter cussions - no extra charge!
The area of San Agustin itself was lovely and peaceful and the hotel was full of Spanish guests and all the staff were Spanish and some did have difficulties with English BUT that is what makes a holiday, why go to Spain and want everything in English? I learnt more Spanish in this hotel than I have in any other.
Food was excellent, breakfast was the best I have ever had in a 4 star hotel.Dinner great also, loads of choice, duck, chicken, pork, mussels and fresh fish every day which did not contain a single bone, very rare for a hotel, dining staff always friendly and helpful.
Lots of Spanish styled evening entertainment,Flamenco dancing etc, great!
Overall,
Lovely quiet and refined area away from it all but easy to get to the busier areas by cheap taxi.
Excellent choice and high standard of food and lovely Spanish staff.
Lovely sunbathing areas and pools.
Huge rooms and all excellently appointed.
Would recommend highly to anyone.
Our ages are 38,44 and 55 just for interest.
Thanks Thomas Cook, this hotel needs better marketing though,it deserves it.

Just read a review of someone who wasn't happy with this hotel and I must say I agree with them..
Its a fine hotel, with lovely pool area and two pools on the roof where we mostly went to. Its clean, rooms are clean, the food was fine too. With hotel bus to beach and Maspalomas.
BUT.... We stayed for 2 weeks and never saw a manager, reception is always busy (too busy). Bar didn't stock our drinks. Entertainment was awful. The dining room I thought was disorganised, tables too close together, cold plates, a lot of staff with trolleys stocking with food, yet no manager on the floor looking after things.
We took a taxi into Playa Del Ingles every night for drinks and entertainment, as so did a lot of people we talked to. I guess they are booked out from one end of the year to the other, so why change things?
This is a huge hotel, its clean, with enough lifts, but there is something wrong somewhere. The only conclusion I can came up with is that it is badly run.
Overall, we were disappointed with the Gloria Palace.

Lovely hotel, great location, views great.
Restaurant very disorganised, no warm plates for food, therefore you end up with cold food. Great if you like your food cold.
Very poor service in the salon bar, better if you need a drink to queue up at snack bar.
Maid cleaning of a lovely bedroom, very poor.
Evening entertainment poor.
Overall a very disappointing holiday.

We stayed one week with three kids and got actually surprised by the superb service.
Everyone is attentive, friendly and willing to assit you with any enquire in the restaurang, reception, and all are very kind with small kids. Our kids loved the receptionists and restaurang personal (special thanks to Mercedes, Patricia, Luci, Noelia, and so many others for being so kind to them!).
Hotel is impeccable cleanliness in every area we visited. This is important when travelling with small kids. Obviously, cleanning ladies do a superb job and our room attendant (Lourdes) made a great job (we were in total 5 in the room!).
Family rooms are large, very clean, and nice, though some people can initially find the bed hard. This is actually not problem if you mention it, this will be fixed immediately as far as we know from other guests. In my case, the hard bed was no problem but the contrary since I had back problems which require firm mattress.
There are theme night dinners, e.g., Spanish, French, Cuban, Canarian, .. Canarian is best with the restaurang staff dressed in traditional clothes and live music. Our kids loved it. The buffet food is very large and good in quality, with a large selection of fresh vegetable and fruit. We all loved the Canary Islands fruit and dishes. The fried counter is very efficient since there is no queue most of the time since the staff is very efficient and fast preparing the food. Patricia is top there. One thing to improve is that some of the tables are too close together and some people could not feel comfortable, but it is minor because of being big hotel.
The hotel is equipped with several pools all heated but the roof top which is not. One important thing to mention is that one of the heated pools includes a flexible, moveable handicap-accessible lift. First time we saw this is a big 4* hotel. The kid's pool surrounding area provides activities to keep kids entertained! (waterproof plastic cabin, chairs, ..).
I would definetely recommend highly to anyone, and already thinking of planning next stay.
