Really enjoyed the visit
from Gosling
We've just returned from a week in Minori, traveling with our daughter and her fiance. The time spent at Villa Romana was very pleasant, not flashy like some big city hotels, but quiet, clean and in a good, central location. We can't say enough about Mauricio who ran the dining room after the first day. Just a lovely guy who cared about whether we were happy about everything. The rest of the staff were polite and caring. Food was good, if a bit predictable. We ate dinner there every night but one. The previous water bottle comment referring to the 'white ring' probably didn't realize that it was a 'fill mark' and not dirt. Our room was a bit small, but comfortable and previous comments notwithstanding, the bath was clean and toilet paper soft. When we return, we will have no hesitation returnin to the Villa Romana. The area is captivating, breathtaking views everywhere. Skip the Blue Grotto at Capri, an excuse to remove Euros from you, but the Emerald Grotto west of Amalfi on the SS163 is much more interesting and not in any way as touristy as its cousin on Capri. Pompeii, Herculanium and Vesuvius not to be missed. All in all, a wonderful week. Everyone friendly, food terrific and the weather couldn't have been better. Took over 500 photos. Looking forward to returning.
nice location, food was marginal

Nice hotel, good location. The ladies of the desk staff were nice and helpful, others were not plesant at all. The food was marginal. The breakfast for forgetable. Nice little town, great for seeing the coast. Would stay again, but not eat there.
Feel at Home at the Villa Romana Hotel
from LGFA
Villa Romana Hotel, a cozy family-run inn, is located a short walk from the center of Minori, a charming seaside village at the base of the steep mountains on the Amalfi coast. We had a comfortable inside room which was quiet and peaceful, with a balcony overlooking the pristine swimming pool,. (Guests staying in the street-side rooms found it a bit noisy). The restaurant features a fruit/cereal/pastry breakfast buffet, but a cooked breakfast is also available upon request. Choose from a variety of 3 dinner appetizers, entrees, and desserts -- each delectable and prepared by their outstanding chef, Giuliano. The waitstaff (led by hospitality instructor, Rocco) is very accommodating and kind -- no pretense -- and the dining room canopy is provided by the owner's Mother's vintage bougainvillea plants. The young owner, Andrea, is also the chairman of the annual "Gusta Minori" festival (Taste of Minori), which features food, song, and live theatrical skits that move from street to street -- brush up on your Italian to enjoy them! Don't expect a spectacular view from the hotel, as it is centrally located, across the street from a wonderful pastry shop and close to fine dining as well as the "real" Villa Romana, the fascinating ruins of a real Minori villa owned by a Roman family which was unearthed during a mudslide!
Totally disapointing

Sorry for all those who liked this hotel, but it is then that you realize that the world is made with all kind of people and tastes! This hotel should NEVER deserve the 4th star on the door. I have stayed in hotels on Amalfi coast that were 3 stars and much much much better than this place. I usually never write critiques but I fell I should let people know what they can expect if they go there. This hotel is for those who want to get a cheap room on the Amalfi coast (compared to the rest of the hotels) and have no problem with mold in the bathroom, beds mattress that are as old as the hotel, food that is so repetitive and so badly presented in the plates, bad service and in a town so boring that there is nothing to do around. This hotel is mainly booked and recommended by travel agencies, so it is full of groups. The clients go there for the cheap price. I went there because I met with a friend who had already gotten her reservation through her travel agency and I had no other choice to go. ROOMS: OK at first look. But wait until you get in the bathroom. They have been recently renovated and there is mold all over the wall in the shower, which was disgusting. The tissue in the bathroom is in fact the paper towels from the public bathroom and they refill the box every day with it. Quite rough when you need to wipe your nose or remove your make up! The mattress are so old and uncomfortable, when you lay in them, you can touch the wood frame under it (and I am only 60kg , 134lbs)! FOOD: Breakfast is included. Not great but OK. Bread, cereal, yogurt, and sometimes fruits. Dinner: do not take half pension! The food is always badly presented in the plates, always taste the same, every 2 days there is veal on the menu, always potatoes for vegetable (never other choice), and the water bottles... They take glass bottles that they refill with tap water. They never wash the bottle and you can see a white ring on the top of it. SERVICE: The lady at the reception desk is quite nice. The other people… quite rude and arrogant. Check your bill before check out, we were 3 rooms staying there and they all tried to charge us for things we did not order at dinner or take from the minibar. SURROUNDINGS: this town is a ghost town. Very small. Not a lot of restaurant. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. If you are fine with all of those above… fine, otherwise, it might be worth paying a little more and get a real Italian food and Amalfitana coast experience!
Loved the village of Minori
from janesusan1
Just returned from a wonderful trip to the Amalfi coast, staying in the village of Minori in the Villa Romana hotel. From Minori we travelled mostly by boat to Positano, Capri and Amalfi town. This area is so beautiful, it's quite breathtaking the only downfall is the black sand but the sea is crystal clear and the views stunning around the whole area.
Not up to standard

Food minimal and boring, with evidence of previous days menu recycled.# Mould in bathroom, loose fittings, bare pipe ends projecting from wall......Loose headboard....bare electrics on balcony........noisy location. This Hotel's service does not justify a four star rating, and appears to lack attention to the basics.
Great place, very good food, takes extra planning for excursions

Very nice, well run family owned hotel in beautiful little Minori. We were here in the low season in March and had surprisingly great weather and shockingly few tourists to compete with everywhere we went. The hotel staff are very helpful, and seem to have a genuine concern for how well they take care of their guests. No matter what time of day or night, they really aimed to please. The dining room is very bright and inviting, and the food served was quite good. Attentive wait staff were constantly eying all of their tables to gauge what was needed. Do your best to get a room facing the lemon grove and not the street, unless you find the sounds of mopeds and late-night ramblers soothing. I would also like to point this out for people renting cars for travel between the towns of the Amaifi Coast: Parking is expensive! Your travel agent may not tell you, and the hotel might not tell you, but it costs 15 Euro to keep your car there per day. Taking an early train to Rome from Salerno? 16 Euro to park your car for the day in Salerno on top of the 15 Euro at the hotel. We got a rental car as part of a packaged deal, and parking tacked on an additional 120 Euro to our trip. It was an annoyance, but was overshadowed by our wonderful trip and comfortable stay the the Villa Romana Hotel.
it felt like visiting family

The staff at the Villa Romano were excellent, very friendly, room was kept clean every day. Our meals were wonderful, the chef even prepared special meals for those who requested a favorite dish. Our waiters Alessandro and Mauritzio (sp) were WONDERFUL. They were very attentive, friendly, and always went the extra mile for us. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Great deal for the price. Only drawback was very thin walls, so that you could sometimes here neighbor snoring or talking. We were three traveling females and the owner of the hotel would worry about us if we were late for dinner, so cute.
the best holiday ever

me and my boyfriend stayed at the villa romana in september for 2 weeks , it has to be the most romantic place on earth , we got engaged while staying there and all the staff made such a fuss. the food is 1st class and there is such variety if you didnt like something on the menu they would make you something else , which ment sometimes them getting things in specially for you , nothing was ever to much trouble for them. The rooms were always spotless and so were the public areas. anyone going i highly recommened the cake shop which is directly opposite the hotel they are the best cakes ive ever tasted my boyfriend had 4 in one day !! also go to the sun deck on the roof as it has the most amazing views of ravello and you can see all over minori. i could not fault anything with this hotel everything was perfect.
A Jewel On the Amalfi Coast

We had the opportunity to spend seven nights at the Villa Romana Hotel. It is a quaint hotel in the quaint town of Minori, It was like staying at an aunt's house, it was so nice. The rooms were nicely decorated and cleaned well every day. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and courteous. The waiters were very attentive. The food was good, but after a few days, it got a little boring, so we ate in town. It is a solid 4 star hotel. The hotel is situated perfectly to easily reach Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello. Don't miss going to Ravello. It is the closest you'll get to heaven (literally and figuratively).
Minori is a quaint charming town. You definitely need to be prepared to walk up and down and on cobbled streets. The Villa Roma is charming, clean and pleasant. The rooms are pleasant with sheets and towels hung in the fresh air to dry (I loved that). The beds are firm,... more
