Arriving in the village of Turunc very early in the morning after a long journey was bliss. The village is nestled at the foot of the mountains and our accommodation was at the top end of the main street just a minute’s walk across the road to the lovely beach.
The staff at the Sen are very warm and friendly as are most of the locals in the village. Nothing is too much trouble, if you have a problem they will sort it or if they cant they know a man who can!!!
The rooms are very clean and of a reasonable size with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. There is a room with a double bed and balcony off it and a galleried kitchen and bathroom with a proper closed in shower cubicle and another room with a sofa and single bed in. The towels were changed every day and the linen 2 or 3 times a week. The apartments are set out over 3 floors and no lift.
There is a reasonable size pool although not a lot of room around the pool. If you were on ground floor, you could almost dive straight into pool. There was a very tiny children’s pool about 1.5 metre square other than that the pool is the same depth all over.
The chef Jaffa and the second chef Ishmail or Smiley we called him are about the best in the village. I haven’t tasted steaks like it anywhere else and their BBQ evening is second to none, I think £10 or £12 pounds including all local drinks all night from 8.00 until midnight is good value of anybody’s money.
The village is very safe and the one main street is closed off to traffic from 7.00pm until midnight. There is a vast array of bars, restaurants, gift shops, jewellers and boutiques and if you want real retail therapy Marmaris is only 30 mins away by local dolmus which can be picked up anywhere outside the apartments. or in the main street or it is only a 5/6 min stroll along the waterfront to the harbour for a water taxi to either Icmeler or Marmaris.
We have been visiting Turunc for several years now and we think it is the best kept secret. We have visited several other parts of SW Turkey, but nothing can quite compare to Turunc. It is so peaceful and relaxing but if you want hustle and bustle and nightclubs until 6am in the morning Marmaris is close by. I would recommend Turunc to anybody but feel it is more suited to families with young children or couples who would like to settle for a quieter holiday. Maybe too quiet for teenagers. For anybody who is visiting Turkey for the first time I feel sure once you have visited Turunc you will return again and again and again.
