On arrival we were allocated our rooms reasonably quickly and the staff were friendly and spoke good English. The hotel was a lot larger than expected and is split into different blocks; it can take a couple of days to get one's bearings. There was a maid service every day and overall the hotel was very clean.
There are two pools both the same size and were plenty big enough. We had no problems getting sunbeds for the 5 of us.
If you're on one of the lower floors (the hotel is in reverse) you can wait for a lift to the pools, reception or the restaurant for some time - patience is a virtue.
The food was quite good and although after two weeks was a little repetitive there is plenty of choice if you're prepared to try foreign cuisine.
We didn't venture out too much but if you walk into Puerto Rico be prepared to be pestered by stall holders flogging you "dubious" electronic goods such as digital cameras and other sales people (mainly Brits) trying to entice you to part with your money. We didn't like Puerto Rico as a resort - but the Spar supermarket was a god send!
The hotel was expensive for drinks and it is probably better to go fully inclusive if you are the sort of person who stays close to the hotel rather than venture out to the "british" bars in the main resort of Puerto Rico.
There are plenty of activities to do throughout the day (rifleshooting, archery, darts, table tennis and pool) and they are scheduled at the same times every day. Just be prepared to take it upon yourself to find this out because the animation team were not the best at drumming up participation, especially if you use the top pool. That said once you got the know the people they were great fun. Most of the team were from Holland and we got to know them quite well (but obviously the teams will change from year to year).
The evening shows were not bad either but started quite late - often not until 11pm. Before the main show you have to put up with "Renee & Renata", the hotel's own singers.
At the time we were at the hotel there was a mixture of British and Spanish guests.

We stayed at this hotel after it being recommended. Our party consisted of myself, husband, daughter (5), mother and father. The hotel was immaculately clean. On arrival we were shown to our rooms, which were interconnecting. Our room was very large and spacious but my mum and dad had a small room. We overlooked the pool and entertainment which could be quite noisy. The areas around the pool were very clean but found the majority of the staff unfriendly. No need to reserve sunloungers as plenty available at both pools. Was disappointed in kids club (although not run by Thomas Cook but by hotel themselves). Felt the people running it were more interested in themselves rather than the kids. Food was good although if you went to the restaurant between the hours of 8 and 9 you struggled to find a seat (bearing in mind this was high session of course). Good variety of food on offer. The beach at Amadores was superb and the restaurants/shops really good. Drinks at hotel were very expensive but we normally went into Puerto Rico first and just maybe had one when we returned to hotel. Would recommend pubs called The Harbour Lights and Crock of Gold, right next to one another at harbour, good quizes and bingo, daughter loved the bingo.

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Gloria Palace. If anyone has booked to go here and are a bit apprehensive, dont be. This is a fantastic hotel, great location and the food is suberb, so many choices even the most fussy of eaters will find something they like. a lot of the reveiws I have read for this hotel seem tocompalin about the attitude of the staff, well I never had a problem with any of them, as they are kept busy all the time they dont have time to be rude.Keep an eye out for the maitre 'd in the restaurant, he is Mr beans double, and the wee chef who works on the hot plate seems to throw the food ay your plate. Overall this has been the best hotel I have stayed in and would definately recommend it to anyone, although it is a little on the expensive side.

Just back from a lovely stay in the Gloria Palace, the hotels location is perfect just 5min walk from Amadores beach and the views are amazing!our room was nice and spacious and was cleaned everyday-the couch and chair in the room could have been updated but otherwise it was lovely.breakfast was fine-it was a buffet and there was plenty of choice-the first morning is a bit hectic because noone knows what they want or where it is but as the week goes on it calms down-breakfast finishes at 10.30am so its a good excuse to get up early!the pool at the hotel has lovely views and there is plenty of sun loungers. entertainment wise bar salon has various acts on throughout the week to keep people entertained and there is also the lobby bar and the bar that accesses the promenade. the spa centre was lovely and is worth a visit...we visited in jan and the weather was lovely 26c all week not one cloudy day so were very lucky!!there are some nice restaurants-oscars-a bit pricey compared to others but nice and don quizote down by the harbour-lovely food and reasonable!the commercial centre is a bit tacky but there are some perfume shops that does cosmetics at discounted rates..there are bars and restaurants here also. All in all, I had a great time, it was so relaxing and I would recommend the gloria palace hotel.

I had a wonderful and relaxing time at this hotel. The weather was wonderful for the whole week. Half board is more than sufficient, the choice is great and you are able to swap your dinner for lunch if you want to go out in the evening. Adjoining rooms are available also if you have kids. The views are amazing, especially around the pools, one of which was much quieter for adults and the other one livelier for the kids.
After reading some other reviews I was shocked as I found the hotel spotless and the staff friendly. In town there are some lovely shops where you can save a bundle on genuine designer watches. The beach is a good walk but worth it, you can hire a sunbed and there are shops and restaurants which are very reasonable.
I had such a great time there that I am going back in 5 weeks with a group of girlfriends and we will be spending a day in the hotels thalasso area which is great fun and good value.

Just returned from Gloria palace and...

Oct 2007, Mrs C LATHAM

Just returned from Gloria palace and glad to be home. We had a lovely room although one of our party had bare electric wires in their room and in another the bath leaked. The swimming pool area was really nice and in general all the interior was good however the service in the restaurant and at reception left a lot to be desired. We arrived after travelling through the night at about 4.30am to be dealt with by a receptionist who had only been there for a week. We had four rooms booked. The first couple with an 18mth old child were sent to the wrong block so she had to go in the lift after them - not what you need when you are tired. Then they were told their room had no electric and she had to be shown how to put the card in to get electric.
We tried to keep one of the rooms on for the following Saturday as we were not due to leave until midnight but we were told not one room was available. We could book a courtesy room for half an hour per couple but not until 9am on the Saturday morning. When we went down to book this on the Saturday morning all the later slots were gone so the other times were far too early, in the end we had to go to the solarium area for a shower and get changed in a tiny changing room - we were so hot after that it was a waste of time showering.
Then the last straw was when we went in to the evening meal to be told (after we had got it on our plates) that if we ate it we would have to pay for it as we were only booked in till lunchtime that day and we were not entitled to it even though we hadn't had the previous Saturdays meal. Therefore they only provided us with six evening meals even though we had paid for seven. The reception staff were extremely rude and uncaring when we went to complain about this and they said we were offered a cold meal when we arrived in the early hours at the beginning of the holiday. We were not offered anything.
The service in the restaurant was slow and we had almost finished our meal some nights before we were offered drinks. Crockery and cutlery were not replaced quickly enough and once I had to wait until my husband finished his cereal to use his dish for mine.
It was pointless to complain because to be frank nobody cared - even the rep just made the usual sympathetic noises that you could tell she had been trained to do.
As you will probably gather I would not recommend this hotel and certainly would not return.

Me and my boyfriend booked a 2 weeks...

Me and my boyfriend booked a 2 weeks half board holiday to the Gloria Palace and when we got there we were so happy, it was everything and more than we expected.
However on the 1st night we got there they but us in a room were the door didn't lock so I asked if we could change, our 2nd room had water leaking through the ceiling in the bathroom and we reported it 3 times in a day and nothing was ever done so we went to see the manager and they confirmed it was toilet water from the above room leaking on us (yuk!).
As you'd guess we were far from happy, we were changed rooms again and offered full board for the rest of the holiday.
We spoke to our rep the next day and as a way of compensation they gave both me and my boyfriend all inclusive for 12 days for 300 euros (me made the most of that).
Now back to the hotel, it was absolutely lovely, the pools to die for, although the typical put your towels out early was happening.
The food in the restaurant was lovely, breakfast you had loads of choice and I am a very fussy person and I had loads to choose from, we got dinner from either the snack bar or the restaurant and for most of the nights we ate in. We had a lot of choice for tea there was fish, meat, pizzas, salad, specials etc. We always managed to get a table whatever time we went.
We have been to Gran Canaria 3 years in a row and found a lovely Indian restaurant last year near the old harbour (one furthest away from the hotel) its called the Taj Palace and it is to die for and would highly recommend it.
We ate there 2 night throughout our 14 night stay as although the food was lovely in the hotel it repeated itself every week. The location of the hotel is brilliant and there is a lovely new crazy gold in Amadores that you must try.
I'd say the only downfall in the hotel is that you sometimes don't know what all inclusive (drinks etc) is and the ice cream is not all inclusive which I found was ridiculous.
I am booking to go the Riu Vistamar next year as we met a couple on the plane and they highly recommended it.

We stayed at the Gloria Palace and had a very good week. Booked last minute so got a good deal.
We were bed and breakfast, and the food was quite good, but to cater for so many people sometimes it was cold, there was always tables no matter what time we went.
The view from our room was great looking out to sea and the pool. The rooms were clean and towels changed daily.
I found the staff cheerful and very helpful. As we eat out a lot I found the restaurants on the harbour good, in particular the Indian one called Little India.
The cafe at the end of the harbour with a man singing on the other hand is awful, the meal I had was tasteless and worse of all a big chip in the plate. I know it was cheap but not good.
You need to like walking as everything is uphill but you get used to it so have a good time.

We first visited this hotel in June 2005 with our two teenage sons (17 & 19).
Without a doubt this was a fabulous holiday and the boys were never bored. Plenty like-minded teenagers and they just had a ball.
Staff - Room - Location - Food - Drink - Service absolutely tremendous.
Over and above this taxi-service and travel excellent and cheap. We made the mistake of listening to someone who recommended the Riu Vistamor for the following year; they said it was far superior. That being the case we expected utopia.
What a major disappointment this turned out to be and we tried to book into the Gloria Palace after one night, but it was full!
We spent the whole week looking down on the Gloria Palace and wishing we were there.
Needles to say we decided to escape in November 2006 with the boys at University and spent a fabulous week at the Gloria Palace; it was everything we knew it to be, so much so we are booked for two weeks this summer, with the boys and their girlfriends.
This time the Spa is on the agenda and of course the obligatory day in Puerto Mogan and the morning coffee and cake at the lobby bar.
The old adage of 'Why mend what isn’t broken' certainly stands true for this place - go try for yourself, you'll not to go anywhere else. - You won't be disappointed.

This is a fantastic hotel, and having been to Puerto Rico 6 times I can honestly say it is the best in the resort, if not the Island.
Rooms are magnificent, as is the decor, location and overall aura of the place.
Very friendly and pleasant staff, fantastic buffet choice of food every morning and evening, and amazing views of the ocean from every room.
Me and my girlfriend will definitely return here, and on our recommendation my parents went 6 months after us, they were just as impressed as us and are due to go again in June 2007, hopefully I'll be following them in September - if available!

This was with out a doubt the best holiday i was ever on!!! I loved this hotel with it's amazing architecture allowed you to see the ocean no matter what room you were in.
I went on a half board basis, which included breakfast and evening meal. The food was excellent every morning and evening. Although the service was slow this should not put you off as the staff do try their best to help at all times. I went with my parents and children and I can say truthfully there was something to do for all ages, whether joining the kiddies club or going to play archery.

I would like to commend the hotel on its brilliant night time entertainment programme. Every night a different show was put on where everyone young and old could have fun. As well as that there is usually a disco afterwards so if you don't feel like going to bed early there's the solution. But...don't worry the rooms are totally soundproof so the sleepers won't hear a thing!
I did not avail of the spa myself but from what I heard from my mother and friend's we made over there it is superb. There was some disappointment which really I cannot blame anyone for...I went in January so the town was dead and dreary every single night. We were very lucky with the weather as it only rained once throughout the whole week.
I can say to you honestly that I don't know why this hotel isn't 5star and I for one will definitely be returning there in the future!!!
